What interesting things have you only recently learned about?
To be clear, this is about things which have been true for some time and you only recently learned about, not things that only happened recently. In particular, recent deaths of celebrities and other high-profile individuals should go in the General RIP Thread.
So, what interesting things have you guys...and gals...only recently learned about?

Apparently, a Costco executive threatened another executive with death if he raised the price of Costco hot dogs from $1.50. Understandable.
Love ruins all.Michelle Obama was in an episode of iCarly.
Peace is the only battle worth waging.Cobalt, the element, comes from the German Kobold Ore, literally "goblin ore". So called because it was thought to be useless (and gave off arsenic fumes if you tried to smelt it) until cobalt was discovered in the 18th century.
So yeah, its name comes from the same place as those whacky little guys from TTRPGs.
TV Tropes's No. 1 bread themed lesbian. she/her, fae/faerSolaire has an amiibo. Complete with him doing the PRAISING THE SUN pose.
She/Her | Currently cleaning Char Clonewhich is why I'm mad kobolds aren't blue in D&D 5e. That's like having Will-o-the-Wisp in a game but not have it be a flame.

Oh no! The DREADED AQUAE MORTIS! No, wait, it's just your imagination.James Cameron has tested whether Jack could’ve realistically survived Titanic. The verdict: maybe, but there are a lot of variables at play & it might’ve put Rose in danger too, which isn’t in-character for him.
Peace is the only battle worth waging. There is an MLP character based on and voiced by "Weird Al" Yankovic. And he ends up with Pinkie Pie, of all people.
"Wait, it's IV. Of course they are. They'd make IV for Dreamcast." - Enlong, on yet another FFIV remakeDuring the Boxer Rebellion, there were a group of foreign diplomats with some troops stuck in China, that had to fight their way out together, where for the lack of any common language, they had to co-ordinate mostly in French, because most of the officers knew some French, but the command was technically held by a German officer who was not in the country, the highest ranking officer was Japanese but the Europeans didn't respect his authority. Americans were also there, but at that point had not established a reputation in international war so were treated on the level of the Italians and Austrians. Russians had artillery shells, but forgot to bring a cannon.

Cold turkey's getting stale. Tonight I'm eating crow.“Coach” is a Hungarian loanword.
Peace is the only battle worth waging. While playing Akihiko Sanada in Persona 3 Reload, Alejandro Saab based his performance in a certain scene on his feelings after the passing of his friend Billy Kametz. He confirmed this in a YT comment, of all things.
"Wait, it's IV. Of course they are. They'd make IV for Dreamcast." - Enlong, on yet another FFIV remake- Berserk has made it rather difficult for other Japanese Dark Fantasy works full of copious sex and violence to gain traction, as it utilized all of the tropes of the genre to such a degree that many will be accused of attempting to ride Kentaro Miura and Kouji Mori's coattails. Case in point: Redo of Healer became immensely controversial for its glorification of sexual violence, Cheat Slayer only lasted one chapter due to its graphic content and mean-spirited treatment of other works, and even the more successful imitators such as Goblin Slayer tend to be a bit more Lighter and Softer.
From Genre-Killer, this chills me to the bone. As I am familiar with Goblin Slayer but not Berserk (I know the basic plot of Berserk and how bleak it is) this ASTOUNDS ME. I dont think I could ever be able to stomach Berserk if Goblin Slayer can be said to be Lighter and Softer.
On a genuinely Lighter and Softer note, the Teen Titans Go was successful and one of the few 2D animated movies made in America post The Princess And The Frog.

Discord: Waido X 255#1372 If you cant contact me on TV Tropes do it here.Is it more or less than what happens in Ninja Scroll?
Princess Aurora is underrated, pass it on.I dunno. Ninja Scroll had a VERY beautiful scene that I loved though, and so did Berserk so while I will never sit down and watch either they had warmth and humanity at least.

Peace is the only battle worth waging.A pope dug up the corpse of the previous pope, his enemy, put it on trial, found the corpse guilty of blasphemy, and chucked the body into the Tiber River. It's called the Cadaver Synod.

It is, however, a dead language, as it has no native speakers.
I learned that the US government has interrogation records of Hitler's dentist, Dr. Hugo Blaschke, in which he criticises Hitler mainly for being a frustrating patient who let his military offensives get in the way of his dental hygiene. (Nothing to say about the crimes against humanity - he was also the official dentist of the Waffen SS.)
