What interesting things have you only recently learned about?
To be clear, this is about things which have been true for some time and you only recently learned about, not things that only happened recently. In particular, recent deaths of celebrities and other high-profile individuals should go in the General RIP Thread.
So, what interesting things have you guys...and gals...only recently learned about?

Actually, Jim Henson said that while he used to say it came from "marionette", he actually just made it up. Slight Flip-Flop of God there, so for all we know, it could mean "monster" after all.
I apologise for my obnoxious amounts of Muppet Knowledge.

AOL Instant Messenger is set to shut down on December 15th. Farewell, AIM, thee who summoned my handle.
You will be remembered but not really missed, as there are tons of alternates to use for chatting these days. Thank you AIM. You introduced me to internet messaging all those years ago.
Coconut water is a lot tastier than I remember it being.
I smell magic in the air. Or maybe barbecue.Blasphemy.
Coconut water, because of its electrolytes and hydration and low sugar content, is good for altitude sickness. Also, there is no rhyme or reason to who gets altitude sickness, so even a healthy-ish woman who has lived her whole life at 5000+ ft., can still get altitude sickness at 8000+ ft.
Rude.

Pontiac once manufactured a revolver cannon for aircraft.
I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiotRats aren't picky eaters because they lack the ability to vomit. Their bodies do not have a way to expel food they don't agree with, so once it's in their mouth, they have no choice but to shallow and bare it.
I suppose it was either adapt to be able to eat basically whatever, or learn not to do that.
Bonytongue fish can be found in Canada. I thought they were restricted to the tropics.
It’s a reference.

Peace is the only battle worth waging.Spinosegnosaurus 77 runs on about eight to ten cups of coffee per day.
You know those "Sliding Scale of (insert name of the type of media here) Obscurity" pages that got deleted some time ago?
It took me just now to realize they survived. More specifically, they are still on the wiki in the form of these sandbox pages, which have more than one of each of the sliding scales each:
Hey, someone noticed them! Is that good or bad?
Well, I don't mind the pages myself, so it's probably a good thing.

Thanks to a little mishap I had while playing a crossword puzzle app, I realized that Al Pacino's name is very close to Al Capone.
Still, I can't believe it took me so long to remember that Capone wasn't an actor.

He may be a giant, nightmarish brute, but like all villains in this series,he sure can sing.Bob Evans, a "down home" comfort food chain out of Ohio (think a slightly less country Cracker Barrel with about 90% of the gift shop removed), briefly owned a Mexican chain called Cantina del Rio. Seems odd that a diner would own a Mexican chain.
At this point, "I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that" could be my Catchphrase.
The state of Georgia has almost three times the population of the country of Georgia.

Bump in the Night was actually a thing. I didn't dream it, along with Soupe Opéra.
Everybody's all "Jerry's old and feeble" till they see him run down a skyscraper and hijack a helicopter mid-flight.Airplanes have a code flight attendants use to intentionally send the passengers into a panic so they're distracted from an actual threat, so by the time they get rid of it, the passengers won't ever know it happened.
A few professional fighting game players are Redditors.
The word "franchise" comes from the French for "freedom from servitude."
I smell magic in the air. Or maybe barbecue.Possums (the North American variety, at least) have opposable thumbs on their hind feet.
Apparently they're making a Stretch Armstrong show for Netflix.
" I'm the princess! Everyone has to do what I say!"
Apparently, the M in "Muppet" comes from "marionette", not "monster" like I always thought.
TropesForever must be so disappointed in me.
