Troper Updates II, Part II

Just had an interview for an internship, it went well. I had to dash across town to get to class after it wrapped up, which really took the wind out of my sails, but I had a really good interview and I'm really happy with how it went.

EDIT: And I didn't miss the food truck! Today's coming up roses.

EDIT 2: I'm so drowsy, oh my god. My brain is buzzing on a good day, but right now I feel as flat as a week-old glass of soda.

After all the crap-tacular news today about immigration enforcement in the US, seeing at least three baby birds successfully fly from the nest their parents made in our porch light put a smile on my face.

I'm feeling good now that I passed the emission test again. :)

My friends made a super-big deal over my internship thing and threw me a party. I appreciate the effort, but it's not really that big of a deal.

We had champagne, and when that ran out we switched to other forms of alcohol. I'm currently hungover in class, waiting for the food truck to arrive so I can scarf down a nice sausage, egg and bacon roll.

In the course of having to explain a Harry Potter reference to my dad, I just called the Hogwarts houses "wizard frats".

Got asked to work 6 days (instead of the usual 5) this week and accepted because I needed the money - I just recently cracked my phone screen to the point the touch no longer responded, and this proved expensive to fix. It's been fine, but I'm looking forward to a relaxing Sunday for sure.

I might try to go see Powerman 5000 live next month - I was primarily a fan in the late 90's and really only know the first couple albums, but it still seems like it'd be fun.

Creative stuff I wanna start doing this summer:

- New album/ep that's not primarily instrumental/sample based
- "music videos" for my old songs on youtube (was thinking of a mix of weird public domain footage and artsy self-shot stuff done via smartphone)
- Write more poetry/ finally get back to the novel I'm supposedly writing
- Painting, maybe?

It's my sister's 23rd birthday today, which also happens to take place June 23. My dad showed up from Australia, which I didn't see coming at all. I don't know how to even properly react

Well, all that medicine seems to be doing is making me grouchier, so back off it I go. I'd rather be a bit sad but still agreeable than a grouchy witch all the time. I just need to call and make another psychiatric appointment on Monday.

My previous status update:

Well, I'm a married man now, and honeymoon/general vacation time is about to end. It really feels like the next step in our lives; Olivia finished her second masters and immediately got a job in her field, I'm going to spend a few more months paying down debt (including the debt I took over from her) and studying (gotta shove years of medical classes back into my head in the course of a couple of months) before I apply for the state license for the med tech degree I got and take the exam... it feels like a corner is finally being turned in our lives.

Fingers crossed that things keep heading in the right direction. But for now, back to work. I feel ready.

I extended my friend Max an invitation to TV Tropes a short while ago. He hasn't replied yet.

Today was a good day. Tagged along with my parents as Mom took Dad to his eye doctor appointment. She and I did some shopping at Burlington, came away with $60 worth of clothing for us (which amounted to one shirt for her and a shirt and pants for me). Picked up Dad, ate at Cracker Barrel, and am now back home with a happy tummy.

I have an important announcement to make. Now that I've given my mind a much-needed rest, I'm going to get to work on the next installment of my book series. It's a collection of short stories appropriately titled Around the World. Believe me, after everything that's happened in Volume VII, my characters both deserve and have earned a vacation. :) (If the YouTube thing isn't working, here's the link to the song that I think best summarizes my new short story's theme)

Well, I think it's safe to say that the hospital screwed up my meds royally. I'm feeling worse than I did before I went. Thanks heavens that I have an appointment with my psychiatrist on Monday.

So my brother and his wife have split up. Apparently, they're Amicable Exes now, but that still means his (and no-longer-eventually our) plans to move to Spain went kaput (she's already living there full-time, but he had to complete the come-and-go routine so he could be legally apply for residence as well. He was so close....)

I haven't posted much in this thread anymore because, well, there isn't much good I can share with you nowadays. Life in Venezuela is almost like life in Hell itself. Since one month ago, we haven't had any water coming from the public service due to incompetence from the pro-government's politicians in our state. Blackouts are still a thing (two days ago we had one that lasted a combined total of six hours), and inflation is bigger than ever.

"Everything will be fine", I've been told by many different people in the latest 7 years. At least I'm still alive, somehow.

With the exception of that hiccup around dinnertime, I daresay that this Independence Day was a great success. :) Of course, all Independence Days are better than that one in 2011 was. -Sideshow Bob's annoyed shudder-
