I still don't get the appeal of Revolutionary Girl Utena. Oh well.

IJBM: That there's so much talk of anime around here but I'm not very familiar with it, not that I have anything against anime but I don't feel like taking the time to watch a whole bunch of it so that I can know what people are talking about so I end up being a bit out of the loop anyway.

To throw away this mask
Now everyone can see

[up] That's how I feel sometimes. It's also how I felt about Homestuck, but that doesn't count because i ended up liking that.

It's funny, the only thing I have brewed for TV Land is the slogan, which is a blatant reference to their original one.

Though they will be subject to the shiny new ABC Cable Networks aesthetic policy: Stop smashing the credits and stop disrupting programs with obnoxious crap.

^^I feel a bit out of the loop as well in regards to that.

Also half the titles run together in my head.

I used to watch anime a lot, but now I only watch it on occasion. Usually if it's a film or series that really peaks my interest. Most of the time when someone mentions a new, popular series, I have no clue what their talking about.

You know I sometimes desire to seek out a series solely because I get PSL for one of its characters (usually one of Runic or someone's avatars, for I am pathetic like that).

^[lol]

Did you come up with the first one by yourself?

^^^^I want to see that anime. Unless, it's about faux lesbian school girls with huge breasts who go after wimpy guys who are really the savior of the universe who has an ancient spirit as an attack dog and the guy whine every episode and has a boring group of friend who convert minor enemies to friends.

I just got this weird desire to wander around the neighborhood near Hudson Street (across the freeway from Crew Stadium, I mean).

This is a stupid idea on many levels, and yet I'll be thinking of that neighborhood for the rest of the night.

Is Crew Stadium in a good/interesting part of town? Dick's Sporting Goods Park (Colorado Rapids' home field) is plunked down in a desolate part of Commerce City, far away from their old stomping grounds, Invesco Field at Mile High, which is downtown.

Also, eurgh. Stop miseducating the childrens

Crew Stadium's in a weird location, in that it (and the State Fairgrounds directly south of it) are sandwiched into the middle of a mostly residential area, alongside I-71. As far as Columbus neighborhoods go, though, the neighborhood isn't anything special.

So apparently it was built entirely with funds by Lamar Hunt (the team's former owner, and namesake of the NFL's AFC Championship trophy). I don't know what to think about this, at least it wasn't a burden on taxpayers.

Are/were the Crew popular enough to justify the construction of the stadium? (And are the Blue Jackets popular? I know you're bitter that their arena took out a landmark)

Imipolex G:

  • Evangelion: a mecha series famous for involving a loser anti-hero named Shinji, an emotionless girl named Rei that every otaku fetishizes for some reason, and an entire casts overflowing with psychological problems. Highly controversial within its fandom.
  • Nanoha: Also known as "Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha", "Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha", "A's", or "StrikerS", a Magical Girl and later magitech series, most famous for involving a cast of too many female characters blowing stuff up with magic, magic, and more magic, along with half-sketchy transformation sequences. Title character is trigger-happy and applies Defeat Means Friendship too much. Contains much lesbian subtext (and some text), as well as characters named Fate (not to be confused with Fate/Stay Night), "Numbers", and various car names (such as Subaru and Teana). Sometimes seen as a mecha series masquering as a magical girl series.
  • Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann: Abbreviated as "TTGL", a mecha series famous for reveling in over-the-top manliness. And lots of drills. And lots of double-entendres, not surprisingly. Characters include Simon, Kamina, girl with plus signs for irises, and skimpily-dressed red-haired girl with skull hair dec. Something about "spiral energy".
  • Touhou: Not primarily an anime series, but a series of indie shmups whose main claims to fame are (1) a large set of loli Older Than They Look and mostly-female characters who take every excuse to fight each other with barrages of magic, and (2) catchy music. Has extremely large fandom, with tons of fanart and music remixes. Cast includes Cirno, Reimu, Marisa, Kisume, Flandre Scarlet, Alice Margatroid (not to be confused with Metroid), and more. Memes include yukkuri, various songs by IOSYS, and Cirno/idiocy/the number nine/no buses in Gensokyo. Frequently seen in user avatars here.
  • Haruhi: a.k.a. Haruhi Suzumiya, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. High school girl turns out to be god...well, a reality-bender, at least. Hilarity ensues. Slice of life series with influences from various other sources. Cast includes Haruhi, Kyon, another emotionless girl that otaku fetishize, Mikuru girl with large breasts that gets molested by title character, and some green-haired girl best known from a meme. Featured a "Groundhog Day" Loop called "Endless Eight" which is controversial in its fanbase. Also spawned "nyoro~n" and "Kyon-kun, denwa!" memes, as well as an Ear Worm ending theme with a characteristic dance.
  • Lucky Star: lolis High school girls in a slice of life series where main character is an incorrigible otaku. Puni Plush art style causes everyone to look too young, which is lampshaded at one point. Features an Ear Worm opening theme with a characteristic dance. Cast includes Konata, Kagami, Tsukasa, and Miyuki. And Patricia Martin.
  • Code Geass: mecha series by CLAMP (Noodle People guaranteed!) that deals with alternate history. I don't know much about it, but one meme suggests that it is supposed to be a show about terrorism but has little to do with it. Features a character named Lelouch Vi Britannia.
  • Macross: classic but still active mecha series. I dunno much about it, but I know there are several series of episodes.
  • Gundam: Another classic mecha series that might be still active, and has several series of episodes.
  • Rah Xephon: mecha series sometimes hailed as being Evangelion done right. I don't know this series.
  • Eureka Seven: mecha and romance series sometimes hailed as being Evangelion done right. (Unlike Evangelion, it makes the Coming of Age theme clear.) Features characters named Renton and Eureka. Has lots of electronica-related Theme Naming, as well as electronica insert songs.
  • Fate/Stay Night: Not primarily an anime series, but a series of sexually explicit visual novels (i.e. "eroges"), where the sex was considered mostly pointless and stupid but where the characters rose to fame and memetic fandom. Cast includes Saber (who is apparently the reincarnation of King Arthur in an armored-dress-wearing lady, not to be confused with Fate Testarossa even though they look vaguely alike), Rin Tohsaka, Archer, Rider, and other people named after character classes. The "Unlimited [whatever] Works" meme comes from here.
  • Dragon Ball Z: old series that people are likely to have seen in their childhoods. Action series loosely based on the Journey To The West. Infamous for spawning the "over 9000" meme, and for featuring characters charging up to ridiculous power levels and not doing much during that time. Artwork by Akira Toriyama. Cast includes Goku, Gohan, Trunks, Piccolo, Buu, Vegeta, and other possibly-named-after-vegetables people. The terms "saiyan" and "super saiyan" are from here.
  • Sailor Moon: old series that people are likely to have seen in their childhoods. Magical Girl show with girls transforming into "Sailor Senshi" or "Sailor Scouts" named after heavenly bodies, and seen by some Periphery Demographic viewers as having heavenly bodies themselves. Known for garishly "girly" lines, such as "Moon Prism Power!" and "In the name of the moon, I will punish you!". Cast includes Usagi/Serena/Sailor Moon, Ami/Amy/Sailor Mercury, Makoto/Lita/Sailor Jupiter, Rei/Raye/Sailor Mars, Minako/Mina/Sailor Venus, and Mamoru/Darien/Tuxedo Mask.
  • Pokemon: famous game/anime/card game/etc. series focusing on the collecing of Mons. Anime series follows the (mis)adventures of Ash Ketchum, who wants to become a "Pokemon master", whatever that means. Classic shonen series and probably the best-known anime series in the world.
  • Naruto: Set in fictional Japanese countryside, villages full of ninjas vie for political power. One character is Naruto, who is like Ash Ketchum but has a nine-tailed demon fox sealed inside him. Other characters include Sakura, Sasuke the prettyboy all the fangirls fawn over, a fossil pokemon Kabuto, Tsunade, Jiraiya, Orochimaru, and various Hokages. Often cited with Bleach and One Piece as major modern shonen series.
  • Bleach: "Shinigami" fight evil spirits called "hollows". I don't know much else, other than that the cast includes Ichigo, Rukia, and Orihime, the last of whom is probably best known for twirling a sprig of leek and being set to an eastern-European folk song sung a capella while doing so, dubbed "Leekspin".
  • One Piece: A shonen series starring a bunch of pirates, with a guy named "Monkey D. Luffy" as the main character. I don't know much else.
  • Kodomo no Jikan: Controversial and infamous series that inverts the typical pattern of pedophilia, by casting a male teacher with a young female student who is interested in him, while he doesn't enjoy her advances. Her name is Rin Kokonoe.
  • Baccano: I don't know this series well at all, but I hear it's set in modern/near-modern Europe, or something like it, and may involve gangsters.
  • Noir, Madlax, El Cazador de la Bruja: Three series that all star female gun-wielding main characters, all by the studio Bee Train. They are best known as a spiritual trilogy, though they have no story/setting connection.
  • Fullmetal Alchemist: Story of two brothers (Edward and Alphonse Elric) who fucked with alchemy once and got severely burned by it (figuratively speaking). Set in fantasy 18th-century-ish Europe. Story notably diverges from the manga's plot; the "Brotherhood" series follows it.
  • Strike Witches: Some sort of alternate history in which we have a cast of young girls patterned on WWII fighter planes, sometime during that era but with different antagonists. Infamous for people not wearing pants.
  • Slayers: D&D in anime form, or so I've heard, but with the emphasis on one crazy character, named Lina Inverse.
  • Excel Saga: Comedy series involving lots of wackiness and references to pop culture, especially other anime series. Stars Excel, Excel's friend whose name I don't remember, Lord Ilpalazzo, and a dog named Menchi who is a sort of butt monkey.
  • Azumanga Daioh: Slice of life of a group of high school girls, depicted with strong emphases on their idiosyncracies. Probably most famous for Chiyo and Osaka, but also stars Tomo, Sakaki, and others.
  • Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind: Movie (and manga) by Hayao Miyazaki, involving a princess determined to save both people and the environment.
  • Spirited Away: Movie by Miyazaki, about a girl who journeys through some fantastic places in the spirit realm after getting lost.
  • and various other Miyazaki films are all pretty famous.
  • K-On!: a group of lolis high school girls who are members of a band, depicted in moe fashion. One of them is named Mio.
  • Air, Kanon, Clannad: Three unconnected series by Key Visual Arts that are best known for being examples of the moe aesthetic and secondarily for their sometimes Uncanny Valley character designs. I think these started life as {{visual novel}]s.
  • Minami-ke: slice-of-life comedy of three sisters who live together and have very exaggerated quirks, most notably the middle sister, Kana, who is far too self-confident and loud. Probably best known for spawning the image of Kana wearing a shirt that says "I AM BOSS".

Did I miss any?

I still think they sexualize Rei because, from what I know, she is attractive-looking and doesn't have much of a personality.

Mistakes you made:

  • Implying that Tōhō Project exists.
  • Implying that CLAMP created Code Geass—they only did the character designs.
