I've been trying to get Chagen to make his own thread for his work for a while, and he's officialy admitted it's a good idea, but he also admitted that he's to lazy to do it, so here I am, making it for him. This is for his Touhou fanfiction, Even A Chance Meeting. He'll have more to say about it soon.

I make video games! Or plan to, anyway.

Well....I would've prefered to start the thread my self....but....eh.

As the page says:

Gensokyo was a normal place. Well, as normal as can be when there's Youkai and gods flying about. Even so, everything happened regularly and normally.

Then a few OC's—almost all male—show up.

What follows is immense Beyond-the-Impossible-ness, lavish amounts of Crazy Awesome, and rather high amount of romance. Each one of these insane guys quickly latch onto a particular Touhou girl of their choice, and endlessly follow them around, much to the girl's dismay. But perhaps this is just what Gensokyo needs....

As for genre, well, EACM pretty much doesn't have a genre at all. If you really wanted to say what genre it was you'd have to say that it's a Action-Adventure/Comedy/Romance/Slice-of-Life/Drama/Fighting/Hurt-Comfort fic. Yeah.

The Main Story has two Arcs (There's also a huge Tournament Arc): The first focuses on Romance and Comedy, the second on Fighting (this is where that Tournament Arc comes in) and Drama, with a much higher focus on Character Development and Angst (but not Wangst.

Read it here, but it's only one chapter as of here.

Well, there you have it folks. Here's a link to article itself. I hope that you like the story, should I ever finish it. In the mean time, feel free to ask me questions; e.g., you could ask me about a Touhou character(Keep it W Indows only, though), and then I can tell you about the OC who is connected to her, including their interactions with other characters.

Of course, sometimes it could be like Touhou Character Alternate Interpretation Thread, and I could pick an OC, descibe him/her in the best of details, and we can gradually expand on them. Well, That's about all I have to say, I need to get back to writing.

Just saying that if anyone is actually reading this story, I'm actually writing Chapter 2.

Also, it's making a transition to a Fighting Series now. Expect lot's of combat from now on, as well as crazy Rom Com antics.

Let's see if this thread will get any attention.

Well, guys, the Reimu vs. Asi fight is underway. Though I'm having a little trouble writing it, it should be finished by the end of the week. I just have to ask some things; how do you think Reimu would approach a fight? There's a few key events, but other than those anything can happen. I'm trying to make it as interesting as possible, so figuring out how Reimu would fight is key.

Just updating.

Do you have an outline? Not in your head, actually written down? Also, do you have a dedicated writing-time or words-per-day goal?

Time keeps dragging on.

I have a very weak outline. And I don't have a dedicated writing time, I simply never can find the time to do it.

Well, I still have a little bit of an addiction problem to TV Tropes (or the internet in general).

Well there's your problem.

And whatever you do, don't try to make this site a "checklist" (trying to find every trope you can and shoehorn some method of playing with it in the story), and definitely do not use troperwords.

Speaking as someone who's struggling to establish a regular writing time/quota: it is crucial if you want to get this thing written. Incidentally, your use of tense in the Ea CM article is a bit irritating - I'd suggest using "will be" or "is planned to be" instead of "is", given that most of the series is currently hypothetical.

Stories change while you're writing them, after all. (Or is that just me?) Plus, it stops people from snarking vigorously at you when you admit only one chapter's been written.

Time keeps dragging on.

So I heard you had writer's block. What's the problem?

Also, where does the title come from?

Title comes from the end of this. I thought it fit, since most of the meetings in this series are completely by chance.

The writer's block is my first Fight Scene. Marisa gets attacked by this guy named Tiranno Imperiorte (Italian; literally, it means "Tyrant Emperor"; yeah, he's Obviously Not A Villian) in the Human Village. Tiranno doesn't set a spell card duel, though, choosing to solely attack her with brute-force magic. I have the whole fight scene planned out in my head....but it just wont covert to words on the screen...ugh.

Well...you could have him try to fight Marisa in whatever way he normally fights, only to discover danmaku keeps him from using it. He gets confused, And Marisa mocks him for his newbishness, then explaining to him about danmaku.

Or something.

Well, my original plan for the fight is a little different...

I think we could work at this better if I type down the outline I have for the chapter.

Wait, who beats who? Fans in general will not stand for Marisa getting her ass kicked by an OC that was just introduced.

Well, it's not a Curb-Stomp Battle completely, but Tiranno pushes Marisa to her limit. And then Reimu comes up and is pissed at the spell card rules being broken, so she ends up fighting as well. Even so, the both of them can't defeat Tiranno on his own at all.

Later on in the chapter, another character rates in their own subjective opinion, the power levels of sorts of the Touhou Girls. The ratings take into account only physical strength and the raw amount of magical energy the girl can pump out, so their powers don't mess up the ratings.

He rates Reimu at 7500, and Marisa at 8000.

He rates the Yukari as the most powerful Touhou Girl, at a whopping 12,000.

He rates Tiranno at 20,000.

Okay, that isn't going to work. Bringing someone to thier limit is good for dramatic tension, but not when you're facing off against Marisa. Just have the one of them break the rules and then just have them fight for a while, then have Reimu show up all pissed. Maybe he can attempt to use his ultimate attack but get stopped due to Suddenly! Reimus! Hundreds of them!

Furthermore, do not have a character outrank Yukari by that much power. You ever heard of Silent Sinner in Blue? There's a reason people hate the Watatsukis. Even when just judging sheer power alone, that's far too great a margin.

Unless the guy is really bad at judging power levels and just puts them in the thousands for no real reason other than that it sounds more impressive. That would be pretty funny.

Nah, Tiranno is that powerful. By the end of the series, however, pretty much everyone, Touhou Girls included, have levels in the hundreds of millions.

And if you count EX-Forms, there are Touhou Girls more powerful than him (some of there are ones I made myself) ; EX-Keine (30,000), Flandre without her power limiters (50,000), Reimu using Fantasy Heaven (400,000), Impératrice Remilia (450,000), Kyūkyoku no Yukari (500,000), EX-Rumia (10,000,000).

"What's this Touhou's power level?" "IT'S OVER NIIIIIIIIINE THOUSAAAAAAAA-"

Agreed that having someone be more powerful than Yukari is a definite base-breaker. We know that Yukari won the superpower lottery, happens to be extremely ancient, and doesn't flaunt her power, preferring to laze about all day. What would be terrifying, though, would be someone with the same range of power who isn't whimsical and lazy. Just an idea.

It's like the Superman problem: if Superman is the strongest, than you either have to present a villain who's stronger or who challenges him in ways he can't win through brute strength. One of these is really hard to write well, and the other is lame when used too blatantly.

Time keeps dragging on.

Raz: It's stated that Gensokyo is very weak actually when compared to the whole massive world around it (remember that idea I had about Gensokyo being part of a larger world?) Yukari is powerful compared to Gensokyo's residents, but when compared to people not from it, she's very weak.

In addition, once everybody actually beats Tiranno, he becomes basically a Goldfish Poop Gang who just can't accept being beaten by a bunch of loli's.

Also, you really don't want to see his "girlfriend", Mio (6000), and especially not when she's not Enraged (50,000). She doesn't fight the characters till way later on though.

It sounds like you're needlessly inflating the power levels. I suggest chucking off the extra zeroes.

Like....

  • Average human? 5.
  • Average warriors and mages? (Not including the perfectly Ordinary witch, of course.) 20.
  • Low-level youkai? (mooks) 2.
  • Average-level youkai? (Team 9, Mischief Faries, etc.) 8.
  • Moderate-level youkai? (Kappas, Tengu, etc.) 16.
  • High-level youkai? (Demons, Oni, Vampires, Patcy-and-Alice-type-magicians etc.) 40.

And it goes on from there. People aren't going to be astounded by a number unless they have an idea of what it's being measured against.

[up] Okay, I see where you're going, but nobody's going to like that. Gensokyo should be powerful enough it can make people fail to notice its prescence. Possibly involving an SEP Field.

I see. Here's an idea: Some villager of some non-Gensokyo village watches the girls fight. Maybe an adult, more likely a child. He starts coming up with rough guess at how strong the fighters are, ranking the tougest fighter at "a power of a gazillion".

Also, Gensokyo shouldn't be that weak. It would have been found and conquered decades prior to the events of the story.

Actually...those power levels are what I use for my own canon in Ea CM. They become useless quickly anyway, given that everyone gets equally powerful fast. They're just there for the "lol HUEG numbers"....thing/feeling.

Yeah, no. As much as I liked Dragon Ball, I found the way power scaled was completely ridiculous.

And if this is supposed to be an Affectionate Parody of shonen, then you must find a way to mock/exaggerate the idea of power levels. Like a guy finds a scouter/power-measuring device, finds character's levels in the billions, and then realizes its being measured in nano{insert name for unit of power measurement here}.

But enough about that. You take care of that writer's block?
