The OVA is a prequel, not an adaptation

...Wenk, that slipped my mind.

Well, still gonna watch it. But it looks like I also have a manga to pick up.

Guess I have more incentive to get a subscription, then.

My God they have REALLY good leadership and employees then. They keep expanding! They been the sponsors for some of the best anime cons this past year!

So I have noticed a lot of anime doing alot of school uniforms with minor changes based on their class or year.

Like this season's Love Live Sunshine first year second year third year. making it easy to tell there will be 3 of each.

Bodacious Space Pirates have different color hoodies based on year, Hidamari Sketch's uniforms have different ties on if they are an art student or general ed student. The Legend Of Heroes Trails Of Cold Steel flat out entirely different colors of uniform, Class VII wears red, nobles wear white and commoners wear green. Love Live did it as well.

Is this a big enough anime style thing to be tropable?

[up][up] Key/Visual Arts did it in Kanon all the way back in 1999. So it isn't anything new and yes, it should be a trope. Put it in TLP.

Just finished Super Sonico. Eh, not that impressive. The animation was decent (although the 3D CGI parts seemed a bit out-of-place), but there wasn't much in the way of a story, and the comedy was pretty low-key for a comedy anime, although it had its moments. Also, the character designers seemed to have a fondness for, uh, chunky girls, which aren't really my thing. Anyway, it was a pretty harmless show, but I'm hoping that other offerings from the recent era of anime have a bit more to bring to the table.

Next up is Hellsing. I've heard this one was popular back in its time but is considered inferior to Hellsing Ultimate; I'll probably watch Ultimate someday, but I decided to watch the original first (as I did with Fullmetal Alchemist), for its historical value if nothing else.

Well, yeah, it's slice of life. There isn't gonna be a lot of story by default. it's like complaining that House Music is repetitive. That's just how the genre is.

.... I think it's not the animators that have a thing for chunky girls. ... blame that one Sonico's original character design!

I liked the voluptuousness of Sonico et al, it made a change from the poseable-mannequin-with-hair and child-with-adult-features that normally dominate the medium. I also liked how they tried new things every episode; it's a rare show where the first episode is one of the least impressive.

I've watched two episodes of Tide-line Blue, and I'm wondering why it isn't better known. I had a similar feeling with Moribito, but while that one is very well-made it is also rather dry and slow. But this has both a good animation budget and knows how to use it (none of the usual stiffness in character models), manages to be funny and dramatic in the first episode without either taking away from the other, presents a vast post-apocalyptic world with semi-realistic vehicles, and pushes things forward at breakneck pace. And a competent English dub. My only concern is how well it can wrap things up with only twelve episodes. It came out in 2005, any idea why it has fallen by the wayside?

Stories don't tell us monsters exist; we knew that already. They show us that monsters can be trademarked and milked for years.

... the first episode is the least impressive.

GOD I hate when they do that. Perhaps I should continue on Episode 2.

Binged Kyou no Asuka Show, a twenty episode series of three minute shorts from 2012, about a middle school girl going around doing everyday things while men perv on her. Surprisingly decent as its sympathies lie with her and it gently mocks the ridiculous lengths some blokes can go to to check out a cute girl.

I just watched the first episode of Saint Seiya on Hulu. For a first episode, it was pretty good (Seiya's first punch not working on Shaina actually surprised me). Unfortunately, the subs had a large number of grammatical and punctuation mistakes. I don't think it's quite enough to ruin the experience for me, though.

so far as i know, there aren't really that many subbed episodes of SS. The only reason i've been able to watch the whole series is because I saw it all dubbed in my country.

Hopefully, episode 73 has a good enough ending that I can pretend that it's the real finale.

According to my google search, that's the end of the sanctuary arc, so fortunately for you that's a decent closing off point.

There's still two whole other arcs to the series though.

Yeah to my surprise there's one for Episode G that I think is like for a few chapters and it's garbo IIRC.

So it turns out that Big Fish is actually animated by Studio Mir. Don't advertise your anime with nationalism or it might bite back hard.
