I do agree that expanding this trope would be very bad and a rename might be in order but for the life of me I can't think of one that doesn't come off rude or a tiny bit racist.
Anime Chinese Girl? Steriotypical Anime Chinese Girl?
Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!I like Anime Chinese. It sort of fits into the series of "Hollywood X" tropes. (i.e. Hollywood Nerd, Hollywood Homely, etc.) Examples should be anime stereotypes only, as a trope of "Chinese people, no matter their depiction" would be kind of People Sit On Chairs.
Well that was like playing a game of Whack-A-Mole where "mole" is defined as "Cthulhu". -Count DorkuSeeing as the only other place I really see this trope outside of manga and anime is Japanese video games which are close enough to count, I like Anime Chinese. It's not a trope about actual Chinese people after all. Just how the Japanese tend to depict them.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. Dickgood name but what to do about Chinese Girl? No to a merge they are handled quite differently.
The writeup could use some work on both to actually say the steriotypes instead of only Odango like the accents like over use of "aru" and "ne" (which isn't very true in RL) love of Meat Buns (also known as Nikuman or Dim Sum) I should YKTTW that one.
Chinese Girl is gathering Western Animation examples...

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!Anime Chinese is the best name for it.
Yeah, change to Anime Chinese.
I'd suggest making Anime Chinese Girl a subtrope.
Yeah, of the Western Animation examples only Toph actually fits the sterotypes, but that's more because Avatar The Last Airbender has a lot of Japanese influence. All of the Web Comics and Web Original examples are bad.

Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickThe real life entry made me wonder if it was a Stealth Parody.

Well that was like playing a game of Whack-A-Mole where "mole" is defined as "Cthulhu". -Count DorkuCould this not be present in Japanese film or television? I'm just wondering as if this is very much exclusive to Japanese media, could it appear in live-action Japanese works.
It could be present in Japanese live action work. I do think it's almost entirely exclusive to Japanese works and things influenced by Japanese works though. They have a very specific view of the Chinese that isn't shared by the wider world.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickI'm okay with Anime Chinese.
Currently taking a break from the site. See my user page for more information. And not shared by depictions in Western culture, either.
Half-Life: Dual Nature, a crossover story of reasonably sized proportions. Now I'm envisioning a snowclone family depicting Japanese stereotypes in contrast to the Western ones depicted in Hollywood X. I like this plan.
BTW, I'm a chick. It does make a certain sort of sense. Japanese media has it's own sterotypes that aren't necessarily the same. They need to be kept a close eye on them though. There are a lot of times where people only watch certain types of media and don't realise how persuasive things really are.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickSean Murray I makes a good point. If this stereotype is present in all Japanese fiction, not just animé and manga, Anime Chinese probably isn't a good name.
It's a shame, because I can't think of anything better that's equally snappy.
Well a majority of Live action Japanese shows don't ever get seen in the western world or entered in as works here at TV Tropes.. with the exception of Toku type shows which usually get lumped together with anime on how they deal with character tropes.
(I have tried for a long time to get my hands on the Negima Live Action series )

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!Hollywood X can be seen in literature.
BTW, I'm a chick.Would it be alright if I added this to Chinese Girl?
(Spellcheck coming later)

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!The fact that Japanese live-action shows or films don't get a lot of entries on this wiki doesn't mean we should ignore them.
You speak sense.
It's not about ignoring the live action Japanese shows, it's just they're pretty obscure to even anime fans. The only way to watch them outside of Japan is there's a channel that offers that but those tend to be shown areas with a lot of Japanese immigrants like Hawaii.
Maybe the trope should be named, "Japanese Theme Park Chinese People".
That's looking at it from an American perspective, though. Yes, most members here seem to be either American or European, but there's nothing stopping Japanese members from making entries for their favourite live-action TV shows or films.
Anyway, I'm not saying that all non-Japanese members here should watch loads of live-action Japanese entertainment and then entry-pimp it. I'm saying that we shouldn't act as if Japanese cinema and live-action television are not notable. (In other words, not assume that a Japanese trope is something that only occurs in animé and no other media.)
Tokyo Chinese might work.
I'm actually okay with Anime Chinese, but yeah.

Crown Description:
The page is about how Chinese people are stereotyped in media, it is not a page on Chinese people themselves.
First line of Chinese People: "A frequent sight in many anime..." That just about sums it up. Most examples are from Japanese media. The few examples that aren't from Japanese media are shoehorned in due to being Chinese. The same issue exists for the trope Chinese Girl.
There's nothing wrong with this inherently. These are both tropes that are mainly concerning Japanese media, but it just doesn't seem right that we have a page simply called "Chinese People" that is actually about Chinese people as depicted in anime, manga, and Japanese video games. But if the trope were just about Chinese people in general, it would be a significantly worse trope, because it would devolve into a vague list of all Chinese characters, ever. But if "Chinese people in Japanese stuff" is in fact what the trope really is, the least we could do is admit it rather than be misleading. We should rename the trope (and possibly Chinese Girl) and alter the description to clarify that fact.
