Weren't we in the Philippines fighting these guys back in the day? They made Black Jack Pershing famous or something. Persistent bastards, I'll give them credit for that.

There is a "tale" that Black Jack captured a bunch of them. Had them executed with bullets coated in pig fat, wrapped the bodies in pig skins and fileld the graves with pig guts and blood. They let one guy go to tell others what happened.

Pershing's behaviour, style of command, and actions in that particular era run counter to this story. I.E. just another tall tale spun by some Anti-Islam loon to encourage excessive violence.

Black Jack was not keen on sending the hordes of entrenched Muslim Philipinos to Allah by sending his soldiers in to dig them out at high cost.

Black Jack was an Army General. Jacob H. Smith there was given the nickname The Monster was also army, but he got kicked out, not lauded. The pig skin BS is just that, BS made by idiots. There was a rebellion when the Philippines were US territory, that's why the M1911 was developed.

Bah your right. I was purusing 3 different articles and switching back to the post box. Pershing is Army. Did not know about the other guy though.

Also apparently Pershing was considered rather diplomatic and successful in dealing with locals when he had time to work with them.

From what I can see Perhing took that to heart. He also apparently took the time to understand and work with the locals.

A lot of the "first wave" of US military men were...antagonistic, to say the least, to the locals. Just compare the Mac Arthur father and son, for example. His father isn't exactly seen in a good light (as military governor it got worse because he often clashes with Taft, who was the civilian governor and was looked at favorably by Filipinos), but the son (Douglas) is.

There's a new anime called Girls und Panzer (hence one of the fansubs adds some German words to their English subs) and in the first few minutes alone there is a Panzer III, a Panzer IV, a Type 95 (in bright yellow!), a M3 Lee (in pink!), and weirdly a Stu G III (in a combination of red/dark yellow/white/blue and full of banners similar to what samurai put on their backs). Mathilda II and Churchill are also mentioned.

[up][up]It's unlike Upotte since they're not anthromorphications of tanks. For example, the first few minutes of the episode is actually "in the future" already as towards the end of the episode their school, hence the 21 students who took up "Tank-do", starts with a Panzer III that's in need of repair.

The British tanks, the Mathilda I Is (4 of them) and the lone Churchill (most of the tanks in the first ep, actually) only makes a brief appearance. As I've also said in the show's topic in the Anime section, I wonder when we'll see the T-34, M4 Sherman, and the Tiger (also mentioned in the first ep). Commie is the only group that have subbed it thus far, and their German member (not sure if it's their typesetter or encoder) added some German in it. V2 has less amount of German while the V1 subs are essentially an English/German hybrid. lol

Just seen a few seconds, now it's DL'd. Low Budget, even by Anime standards, with plenty of Conspicuous CG. I'll watch it all later and see how it turns out.

I dunno about that tank girl one. Today after all is the first day that I had heard of it.

Nice of the CIA to honor Doctor Jones. That man is one of my heroes.

That Stratos 4 thing looks a lot like Upotte!! and Sky Girls. Could be worth a watch.

Standby for deconflict, firing for effect.

My father-in-law went to a Medal Of Honor signing event this weekend. My wife brought back a book of quotes from all of the recipients (WWII-on), signed by the 55 of the 81 still-living recipients that were present for the event. My younger sister-in-law shook the prosthetic hand of one of them and thanked him for his service.
