Badly misinterpret a video game or series

A teenager survives a mass-murder attempt, gets separated from his best friend, and spends the next few months wandering around looking for complete strangers to subjugate, forcing them to expand his new home and play games with him while the world around them falls into darkness and decay. In between gambling, abusing small animals for fun, and blackmailing, bribing, or otherwise coercing people into becoming his slaves, he completely screws up international politics for years.

A young person enters a 1950's VR program which shows a simulation of what a post nuclear war planet would look like.

A bunch of teenagers, in between their candy binges get bored of watching so much TV that they decide to make things more interesting by pretending there is a world beyond it where they can play detective. Since they're strapped for cash, they decide to use one of the girl's giant teddy bears as a prop for one of their characters. Eventually they get carried away and start accusing people of commiting horrible crimes. The kids get sedated by the local authorities and promptly decide to just go back to watching lots of TV.

A gang of psychotic,delinquent schoolkids recruit their protagonist dormmate to help them fight hallucinations of monsters. The gang consists of a mute emo kid, a pretentious biker girl, a wannabe boxer, a prostitute, a vicious dog, a trenchcoated drug dealer, an alien robot, a young thief, and a heroin addict.

On the outside, they pretend to live normal lives, but at midnight they trespass into their school and practice suicide rituals with blank weapons in the belief that they are fighting demons. Every full moon, they take their activities outside the school and joyride a train, vandalise a hotel, and sneak into an old military base. Unfortunately, they are assaulting and killing real people in the process. Jesus Christ and his two disciples, realising that the city's only policeman has been bribed and these people pose a threat to humanity, take it into their own hands to put a stop to these miscreants. They fail completely, and these righteous vigilantes become the latest victims of the maniacal teenagers.

Eventually, a charismatic transfer student from emo kid's hallucinations visits the gang, offering them a choice - they can either let him live to destroy the world, or shoot him and have their hallucinations come to an end. They decide to kill him, curing themselves of their mental delusions and their tragic past. And they all lived happily ever after.
