@SSJ: I do understand this is pre-CVIII Sypha, but this personality evokes MORE color, that it may be stuck for those who otherwise would see her as having no personality. A personality that evokes more color seems to be more easily remembered than a no-personality, regardless of how bad is that. Most reviews point out that the Judgment version of Sypha's personality is the big problem, without recognizing how she will be more amiable in the future, meaning that maybe to some, she stays a bitch forever (unlike Eric and Maria, who got their defined future personalities which is way off from their characterization at Judgment). If this was 'past versions', it sure looks like it's going to be stuck more.

I also had an idea. Castlevania performed better in the West than Japan mainly because it uses Western horror elements (Dracula, Werewolf, Grim Reaper, etc)...

It just makes me wonder if someone makes a Castlevania-style game, but with mainly Japanese elements, like Youkai? It would probably click on the Japanese better, and hey, if any company want to give it a shot, I don't think Konami can even fuckin' sue that one. Though I dunno what Japanese monster would be the equivalent of Dracula.

Somewhat related, has anyone played Rusty? It's like a combination of Rondo of Blood's exploration and more elaborate levels and Vampire Killer's timed key system. It was recently fan translated.

If nothing else, the music is great.

[up] I've seen gameplay of that on a YT channel "Shadowserg", and I believe it was recorded by their friend "Arek the Absolute", no relation to the Lufia character.

I have no problem with Pachinko.

My issue is with being literally Satan.

By Satan, you mean LoS!Satan, or Konami being Satan?

Conami is Satan, any version. Except the good versions.

Actually, they're probably Beelzeboot, the Canadian devil.

Kojima's actually got it much better than other former - and current - Konami employees. He's got clout, that lets him make his own with Konami only being able to nibble at his heels.

I actually wonder how much crap Iga's been getting, if any.

So, what would it take for me to forgive Conami?

An apology and treating their staff like people. A move away from their Yakuza business practices and maybe treating their game franchises with the respect they deserve.

Longer than Kojima, that I can say. And that's not even getting into Murayama for Suikoden...

There was a preview of Castlevania Netflix at Anime Expo. It actually looks very promising. I think they did a good adaptation of the Cyclops boss. The arena is different, but it allowed for the beam chase fight to happen. It's also interesting how Trevor's fighting style is a mix of the whip and his sword.

Curiously, they didn't go with the Japanese version's take that Sypha was aware the whole time while being a statue.

If there's anything that bothers me over the adaptation, it's that Grant has been seemingly Adapted Out. Which... Really isn't that different to how Grant has gotten the short end of the stick when it comes to III portrayals, but it's sad that he doesn't even be part of the team in this version.

Man, I wish the sound was more audible, but at least we can get a look at how the artstyle is gonna look like in motion.

It looks pretty good! Although the part at the end where the decapitated guy who was turned to stone turned normal again was kinda gross, though.

The voice work is really good.

It's weird seeing anime visuals without the spotty English anime voice work.

Then you need to see more dubs.

Speaking of the animesque look, I've seen some amusingly elitist comments about how they won't watch it because the spoken dialogue is in English and it's not made by a Japanese animation studio. That aside though, the animation really does look nice, it's good to know despite the somewhat niche audience this can appeal to, the team didn't skimp on the quality.

Well, I don't see overdrawn anime expression like in the original Teen Titans cartoon, so I don't think it's THAT bad.

Can't wait to do a no death run of this show, though.

Reposting from the Western Animation board:

Just a friendly update.

The show will be on Netflix TOMORROW.

Are your hearts prepared?    evil grin

(Also, anyone else think it's awesome that Graham McTavish went from being Loki, the God of Mischief to freaking Dracula?)

EDIT: I am sorely tempted to click on that YouTube link, but I want to go into Castlevania blind.

I feel like anything Vibhuti does, Holy Water does better. Is there any use for it outside of needing a quick Holy Water substitute?

As for my Symphony of the Night progress, Death is... something, but whatever that something is it means I've defeated him! That just leaves Galamoth and the Big D himself, just in time for the Netflix series~

So the Netflix series is out, and there is something that, if you haven't followed pre-release info, is important to know going in. This is off me seeing the first episode.

Tonally, think less of the anime tone of the IGA games, and think something far closer to Hellsing. They go all in on the gore, to the point where I was pretty surprised how detailed it got near the end when Dracula unleashes his demon army on Wallacha. There's also a few bits that feel like they're trying to channel Game of Thrones in terms of how one off characters talk.

[up] When you say "the end", you mean "the end of the first episode" or "the end of the whole thing"?

I'm trying to avoid spoilers on account of how I'll be seeing it later today.

So in SOTN was it ever said when Lisa's death happened besides 'a long time ago'?

The usual assumption was that it happened some time before the events of CV 3.

So after checking out the Netflix series, I'm here because now I want to know a bit more about the series.

Even though it's an adaptation of Castlevania III, I decided to check out a Let's Play of Symphony of the Night, because that's clearly the version of Alucard that the series is running with.

I'm baffled by his ability to moonwalk dash. It's like nothing I've ever seen before.tongue

As is often the case with Lets Plays, I can't stand the guy playing as his commentary is annoying, so if anyone has any suggestions on a good SOTN LP, I'd be all for it.
