So I got my folks caught up on the UBW anime and, after taking a long time to explain to my mother Heroic Spirit EMIYA's backstory and why he wants to kill Shirou (among many other things), my mother thought everyone was forgetting about Gilgamesh and that he would save Rin.
The idea of Gilgamesh saving Rin is so ridiculous that I'm surprised I didn't laugh.

If I recall, doesn't Gilgamesh spend most of his time during this arc of the route basically just looming in the background?
Also, really? This is the route where Gilgamesh's big scene is him slaughtering a Master and her servants (both big S and small s), and that's just from the VN. I am not caught up with the anime (...by a longshot. .-.) but the opening act added a scene which basically confirmed more that he was a villain.

Yeah, Gil spends mos of UBW just doing nothing and somehow tolerating Shinji. Not what people who liked him in Zero were expecting I'm sure.
Yeah I always wondered what importance the scene with Sakura and Gilgamesh was supposed to have. I think it was meant to be setting up Sakura knowing about the war and stuff but Gilgamesh has fuck all to do with the HF route.

Her class servant name than her real name, of course.
To be fair, I know two people who were watching UBW as their first foray into Fate (though one of them I know watched Fate/Zero first). Neither of them knew Archer's identity in advance, though they both ended up guessing it before the "official" reveal.
Then again, the hints get progressively less and less subtle as they ramp up to it.

cause Shirou himself treats it more like... the simple realization of... "So I'm the Asshole." -which is the alternate title to UBW... I was the asshole all along.
I mean its just kinda a matter of fact at that point.
But Arha, "Guinevere" never really existed, it was always Arturia putting on a (different) dress and pretending to be her own wife.
Nobody was actually fooled but she seemed to be pretty happy that she could act ladylike for once so no one had a heart to tell her.

As for the human he once was, no traces of that person exist. Instead, he is now the personification of what most people would imagine one who holds the title of "Ally of Justice" to be.

That seems like a needlessly technicality laden hair splitting convolution... Just so you don't have to outright say Archer in Extra is Shirou but Archer still uses the Emiya theme.
