I was more talking about working with other people in my second post.

For that matter though, networking is a thing you should never stop doing.

It's about connecting with other people and finding opportunities or helping other people. You could always find yourself in need of a job, or know someone else who is.

People like to know your name and demeanour, preferably with some contact details.

Don't worry - you're telling a woman who's wormed her way into various jobs by talking to people and getting to know them, you don't need to state it to me.

Just thinking in text. As I said, they don't really teach this in school or even necessarily in uni.

I also know the feeling of almost never succeeding with job applications but finding people willing to give you jobs.

Joining the student orchestra is what kept me in university, simply because it gave me a way to relate to my fellow students and study environment in a relaxed, casual manner without the pressure of work, grades and exams. Finding a club, activity or other social arena is key to having an enjoyable university experience, IMO. And it helps with networking too.

Study for your degree, but don't let it it take over your life. A degree is a nice thing to have, but friends and connections are far more important.

I find it kind of disturbing that we've had to come up with a cutesy term for taking advantage of people.

[up] Don't feel too bad. The people we're taking advantage of did the same thing grin.

Anyway, I am personally getting a bit tired of going to a party, under the promise that it's "The Biggest Party Of The Year" and then there being maybe five beers and three people dancing to music with a horrible speaker system.

Well, hello.

I am currently in my final year of my four-year undergraduate degree, and am planning to come to the US for my MS. I plan to do my MS in Computer Science and am particularly interested in Game Design and Development; however my family tells me that I should maintain a more general degree like in Networks or Database Administration or something similar, as Game Development is a very niche field.

Anyway, what kind of places should I be looking for? I know that USC has a very good course; does anyone know any thing else?

-slams head onto desk-

Just emailed in the worst takehome midterm I've ever turned in. That I skipped my first class of the day to finish (and I'll be skipping the second because there's noway I'll get there without being extremely late). I should have had a week to do it, but due to circumstances I wasn't able to until Monday. And then I kept putting it off because life sucks right now and I want nothing more than to curl into a ball and hide for a few days.

And now I'm sitting around twiddling my thumbs, hoping to high heavens the classes I need will still be around.

Long story short, thanks to a bullshit policy change, I have to be "re-admitted",despite taking one semester off rather than a year or two. (which I never even wanted to do,but had to thanks to a bullshit policy where credits were concerned, I had to stay into the Summer, and no way in fuck could I earn enough money or get any job that would allow me to go back in the fall)

So I turned in exactly what I need to be re-admitted,except class registration opened up a week ago and some of the classes I need have a tendency to fill up really fast.

The only bright side is that I managed to make a deal with registrar to get a spot in the two hardest classes to get into (namely the final BS class that only Seniors can take and the Senior Thesis class)

Usually I try to avoid this place as it simply makes me depressed thinking about most of it.

Good news: I breezed through my first math test, and am ready to move to the next section of my class!

Bad news: This is the second day I forgot to grab a fucking add slip from administration. On the other hand, as long as I get it tomorrow so I can spend from Thursday to Monday getting that chapter's homework down within next week, I'm good.

So... I'm due to graduate in about two months. God help me.

Networking.. bah. This whole year I've been plagued by rotation feedback that essentially says "Loni is too reserved, she needs to be more social and talkative and take less time to get used to people".

I understand where they're coming from but adjusting to a new work environment every two or three weeks has been exhausting and I don't much appreciate being told multiple times that being reserved is a character flaw I need to get over =|

In other news, next week is my clinical elective and I'm excited! Bird medicine! smile

Integration takes everyone time I think.

Also, congratulations on your approaching graduation.

I'm waiting for acceptance stuff right now, does that count?

I already got an acceptance letter from my third choice school (my first choice just got around to my stuff and won't let me know for two weeks and my second choice still needs something).

I don’t even know anymore.

Still hanging on being readmitted, despite getting a call from my admissions counselor, she was very ambiguous.

The chances are very high (my counselor back when I first applied was also ambiguous, and acceptance rate is absurdly high) but I'm still very pessimistic...I've simply had too many run-ins with other things where the chances of failure were really low.

And now I'm in. 11 credits right now, will search for one final class to get the easy 14 (so I'm not murdering myself with a lot of credits in the final semester)

I'll be taking as of now:

- American Literature

- Senior Thesis

- Current Events

- Screenwriting

And that's all I got right now.
