Hmmm... what's wrong?
Absolute RainbowThis was split from Removing Gushing from the Wiki to talk only about "The [X]" that has been discussed for months over there. A few people have suggested making a thread on Short Term projects, so here we are.
UsefulNotes.Black Holes has the odd
Just...what?
Art Museum Curator and frequent helper of the Web Original deprecation projectUseful Notes don't need a preface like that at all. It needs to go.
Feel like we should take care of all the Marvel + DC Comics examples first since they epitomize all of the above issues in some way.
Silver and gold, silver and goldI removed it
Art Museum Curator and frequent helper of the Web Original deprecation projectRegarding comic books, I'll start with ComicBook.Superman. I've suggested this back in Removing Gushing thread.
The Man of Steel. The Last Son of Krypton. Champion of the Oppressed. The Metropolis Marvel. The Man of Tomorrow.
The Big Good and iconic Cape of The DCU.
Come on, hum that John Williams theme song. It pops into all our heads, eh?
Superman has been published continuously by DC Comics for eight decades and counting. He first appeared in Action Comics #1 (June, 1938).
Describe Topic Here is a good opener, but the rest is so overly long and overdone with chained Sinkhole that it defeats the purpose of being a concise description.
So how about rewriting it like this:
Superman — a.k.a. the Man of Steel — is a DC Comics superhero created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. He is one of the most famous and popular superhero not only in The DCU but in comics history — when you ask someone about "superhero", it's likely they'll first think of Superman. He first appeared in Action Comics #1 (June, 1938) and his works have been published continuously for eight decades and counting.
How important is the work? Is it really a Trope Codifier of "Reborn as Villainess" Story? If so, how did it condify the trope and which major works were influnced by it? It needs a more elaborate explanation if the work claims to be one.
I'm cautious about it because Reincarnation is a very common theme in Japanese light novels, let alone general literature.
The "Reborn as Villainess" Story says it's the Trope Codifier and the main page for the work says for "Reborn as Villainess" Story: One of the earliest examples, and the Trope Codifier. Young noblewoman Katarina Claes hit her head and recalled her Past-Life Memories: that of a Japanese high schooler who died in an accident. What's more, the world she lives in now is the world of Fortune Lover, an otome game she played before her death. Finally, her current self Katarina is the evil love rival of the game, who will end up exiled or dead in half of the game's endings. And so she hatches up plans, silly and serious to prevent her doom. It is also a case of an Unbuilt Trope, because if it wasn't the Trope Codifier, today it would be remembered as a parody of the sub-genre.
Hi!That's just a recap of what the work is and doesn't really explain how it became a Trope Codifier for later works, other than that it came out early. If it can't provide an explanation of why it's so important, it should be cut.
All right, I'll do it. Edit: The line has been deleted.

Hi!How come Transformers being The Transforming Mecha was deleted?
Hi!I moved Transforming Mecha to a pothole to "Robots in Disguise" because the phrase pretty much implies that the robots are Transforming Mecha without being as gushy.
Took care of the Godzilla example.
Until next time...

Yeah, much better looking.
Hi!Steamboat Willie is touted as The sound cartoon.
I don't dispute that Steamboat Willie is important for that reason, but I feel the rest of the page does a good job of explaining the short's legacy, so I don't think this is needed.
Agreed. Remove but archive
Art Museum Curator and frequent helper of the Web Original deprecation projectActually, it's not even THE first sound cartoon, either as the page explains.
Hi!I did the rewrite for ComicBook.Superman.
The page does a good job explaining the distinction of being the first notable sound cartoon, and that "The" only adds confusion to otherwise good preface. Should be removed.
I've done this before, for the Doctor. What would you put on their page instead?
The Time Travelling Human Alien, who also inspired plenty of copies.
I'd bring up the fact that they have many nicknames without listing them all and that their name isn't Doctor Who.
Hi!I wanted to keep some of the nicknames, so I shaved off a few while providing a connection between it and the rest of their introductory statement, like how the page for the Daleks did.
The Doctor is the main character of this long-running show, who has been known by many namesnote and has worn many faces in their adventures throughout time and space. Like all Time Lords, they have a life span measured in centuries/millennia, some degree of psychic ability, and the ability to regenerate into a new form when near death. Unlike other Time Lords, they became bored and/or terrified by the Gallifreyan way of life when they were “young”, stole an antique TARDIS, skipped town and "never stopped running".

The cleanup thread.
This first started in "Removing Gushing from the Wiki" thread which discussed the behavior of prefacing the pages with "The [X]" (usually linked to Trope Codifier or Trope Makers). After spotting too many individual examples, it's time to make a thread about it.
The "The [Trope]" examples have issues because:
This thread will focus on talking about how to improve them.
