It is an age of heroes. From the day the Saint was first seen in newsreels back in '39, the world has always had champions. For decades, they've protected it from superpowered criminals, mad scientists, nazi nitwits, alien invaders, and even the odd incursion from other dimensions. Regardless of their origins — whether they received their powers in some sort of accident, were born with their abilities, used tech to get by, or relied purely on their training and hard work — they have long vowed to protect the world and make it a better place.

The Saint has long passed away, but he left many legacies. Saint Academy, Saint University, Saint Solutions. Companies and insinuations dedicated to ensuring the World has protector. But the greatest of them all is the Saint Foundation. Founded in the waning days of his youth, the Foundation was created as a global taskforce of heroes, giving them the means to help people while keeping them organized. Whether it be a natural disaster, the dread lord Gohmallamaku wrecking havok on the mortal plane or something mundane as a bank robbery, the Foundation is ready to help. Anyone from anywhere is welcome to join so long as they meet the criteria, but what's important is that ever elusive heroic spirit.

But all of the Foundation's branches, there is one that stands out. The town's had many names, but the first and last is Capetown. Sitting off the coast of New England, filled with stories and brimming with history. To most of the world, it's the place where the Saint was born. It's become a national treasure, home to tourists and historians of all stripes and anyone looking to get away. But most importantly, it's a place of heroes.

The Saint is the town's most important legacy, but it's far from the only one. In honor of his passing, the branch of Capetown was retooled into something more distinct. It's become a home to legacies, both to old veterans and fresh faces, honoring those who came before and after. But heroes aren't the only things it attracts. The town has a long history, filled with secrets and wonders. But those same secrets could spell disaster in the wrong hands. Trouble has come to Capetown and it's down to the Saint Foundation and the local branch to honor its' legacy.

Hey, everyone! This is a Superhero RP, co-run by me and Lily The Litten and inspired by JSA and classic Superhero comics of old. It's the latest installment of the My Superhero Series, but you don't need to read the other RP's to understand this one. Whether you're new to MSA or have been here since the beginning, this is the perfect spot to jump in.

The gist is you're a new member of the Saint Foundation learning the ropes. The Foundation is the world's most prominent squadron of heroes, a global taskforce with branches in every corner of the Earth. Their latest branch is in Capetown, a small city on the coast. It's a magical place, steeped in history and filled with secrets, but it has its own cozy little charm. You could be a recent graduate from the Foundation's many academies or universities, fresh out of school and ready to take on the world. Maybe you got one of the old heroes to sponsor you, piggybacking on their resources and reputation to start your career. Or maybe you got in with nothing but pure skill and a heroic spirit.

Regardless of your origins, you all have one thing in common and that's legacy. Every hero in Capetown follows some sort of legacy, even if it's not obvious. Whether that legacy is good or bad is up to you, but it's your job to honor it.

In this world there are many sort of heroes. First you have those who obtained their powers in an accident or experiment. These are some of the most common heroes around. Next up, you have those who were born with their powers. These can come with a physical mutation such as Petting-Zoo People, green skin, four arms, etc. Then there are those who rely on their tech for their powers. You might have someone who wears a suit of Powered Armor or maybe they have a magic crystal or maybe they own a belt that makes them shrink. They could even be another species. Humans aren't the only race, even if many lurk in the shadows.

  • Name:
  • Superhero Name: (Put a numeral next to this one, so we know if you're the second/third/whatever hero to bear this mantle.)
  • Age: 18+. Most new Foundation members are in their late teens or early 20's, but older recruits aren't impossible.
  • Appearance: (Both their civilian outfits and their hero costume, a must-have for any self-respecting super.)
  • Personality:
  • Backstory: (Fairly self-explanatory, but remember, your superhero self doesn't exist in a vacuum. How did you become part of your legacy?)
  • Legacy: (Brief description of the legacy here. What is it known for? Who were the prominent members? What's its reputation like? The legacy doesn't have to be super or heroic, but it should have some sort of history.)
  • Powers and Abilities: (Equally self-explanatory. Encompasses both superpowers and Batman-esque training.)
  • Gear: (Once again, self-explanatory. Includes both any equipment that gives you your powers—your magic rings and transformation brooches—as well as weapons and gadgets you have to assist you.)
  • Nemesis: (Now this one's interesting. Along with your mantle, you have inherited an old enemy of that hero, one who wants you dead specifically. Who are they? What powers do they have? Feel free to be as detailed as you want, or simply put down the basics and we'll work out the rest in the Discord.)
  • Trivia: (Anything, everything, and all the things that don't fit anywhere else but you wanted to mention regardless.)

Last but not least, some additional information about the world for your perusal.

    Timeline
  • 1938: Saint, the world's greatest hero, shows up on the scene. Right from the get-go, he espouses a highly idealistic worldview, setting the stage for the first generation of heroes and the next several decades to come.
  • 1939: Other heroes start appearing, following Saint's example.
  • 1940: The Protectors, a group made up of the world's most powerful or well known heroes, are formed.
  • 1946: Hitler summons a demon horde in a last ditch effort to win WWII. This defeat leads to a number of demons surrendering or defecting to America and leads to the first batch of inter-dimensional refugees on Earth. However, most humans are still afraid of other races, and so they are confined to other districts and heavily discriminated against.
  • 1952-1954: Mr Carthyism begins in earnest. Superheroes are heavily investigated by the US Government during the Red Scare.
1955-1958: A parasitic alien race called the Godons invade Earth. Earth’s combined military and the hero population aren’t enough to defeat them. Even with the demons chipping in, it still isn’t enough. However, a much more friendly alien race called the Boffons decide to help Earth and fight off the Godons. With everyone working together, they manage to route the Godons and save the planet. Earth is ravaged in the process, but the Buffons help Earth rebuild, advancing their technology in the process. All of this leads to the publics’ faith in Superheroes restored and the demons and other races accepted by the general public. However, certain races or subcultures don’t feel safe among other normal humans, and begin forming settlements or enclaves where they can form their own identities and cultures in peace. Plans are made to start talks with other alien races and begin liaisons with other planets.
  • 1959-1968, Part 1: Earth continues to grow and progress. The Boffones along with scientific and mechanical geniuses like Dr.Reinbach and the hero Armada create new self-sustaining, non-lethal power sources as well as non-radioactive substitutes for nuclear weapons. The great powers aren’t willing to give up MAD that easily, but it at least ensures the Earth won’t become a radioactive wasteland. Hovercars become a thing, and work on inter-city teleportation begins. After reaching the moon in 1960, plans are established to begin the first colony there. Reinbach and other scientists begin to look into other dimensions and establish contact.
  • 1959-1968, Part 2: However, there are still some issues to be dealt with. While other races are beginning to be accepted, there is still some racial discrimination. Discrimination and hate crimes against other races leads to interracial discrimination becoming out of focus, but it exists to an extent. As such, renowned civil rights activists such as MLK and Malcom X still exist, but there are demons ans other races speaking out for their own kind. This leads to President Kennedy ensuring and establishing rights for all races in 1963 before his assassination, both for ‘coloreds’ and other races. During this time, work on the first colony on the moon begins is earnest and is halfway finished by the end of the decade. Communications with other species continues and plans are made to eventually allow other species and refugees to immigrate to Earth in exchange for technology and resources.
  • 1969-1974: President Nixon is elected into office. His tenure is heavily mixed, and human/waver relations go back and forth between improving and becoming volatile. Just as Watergate is in full swing, a breakthrough is made in interdimensional travel and contact is made with a parallel universe. However, said universe is a world where its’ entire Superhero population were Supervillains and had long conquered the world in its iron grip. With their own Superheroes and the US military, Earth is able to fend them off, which puts an early end to US involvement in Veitnam as they struggle to deal with it. However, near the end of the Mirror Earth War, Nixon attempts to surrender as a result of the sheer pressure that this war and Watergate have saddled him with. This does not work, but it ensures Nixon has no chance at saving face. Rather than resigning, he is impeached as soon as the war is done. This outcome also leads to interdimensional studies and relations being scaled back immensely out of fear that something like this could happen again.
  • 1975-1990, Part 1: Relations between other races continue to improve. Earth’s technology continues to advance. Laptops and the Internet are made public decades early, and teleportation stations between major cities are established. The first colony on the moon is completed in 1979, and select families start moving in. Immigrants and refugees from other worlds have begun moving to Earth in earnest and plans are made to send ambassadors and representatives to their home planets.
  • 1975-1990, Part 2: In the midst of all this progress, Saint leaves the Protectors and goes into semi-retirement, but doesn’t rest on his laurels. With backing from the UN, he establishes Saint Foundation, a worldwide organization dedicated to promoting and organizing Superheroes the world over and allowing them to do hero work as a full-time job. He also notices that Superheroes have started doing hero work younger and younger and getting themselves killed in the process, so he establishes the first Superhero school: Saint Academy. More of these schools are established the world over, but Saint Foundation’s schools are the most renowned. Additionally, all these young Superheroes getting themselves slaughtered leads to a law being passed that forces all Superheroes to get a license to do hero work, and that anyone under the age of 18 has to graduate from one of these schools to get it. By 1991, the rate of teenage Superhero deaths has decreased dramatically, largely due to having to attend such schools.
  • 1991-2001: By this point, things are better than ever. Saint Foundation and Superhero academies are in full swing, and Superheroes have long been revered as public icons. Space travel is becoming more and more of a norm, and Earth is in the baby steps of becoming known throughout the cosmos. A second colony is built on the moon. Tablets and Smart phones are made public. And demons and other races have largely been accepted by the public. Not that everyone is okay with this. A group called the Warriors of Earth begin attacking other races and spreading hate and distrust among the populace, declaring themselves defenders of the status quo and desperate to turn things back to how they used to be. They obtain enough traction from extremist and reactionary groups to gain some headway, but due partly to acceptance of other races as well as general incompetence and stupidity on the Warriors’ part, they soon fall into obscurity.
  • 2002-2005: Not much of note happens until 2005, at leas compared to previously. There are various advances and conflicts, but nothing out of the norm. There are also various alien races and other dimensions that attempt to invade, but Earth’s defenses are so advanced and Earth’s hero population so large and organized that nothing gets off the ground. Not that there aren’t Supervillains and monsters wrecking havoc or natural disasters to stop, but that’s been a way of life for the last several decades. Aside from the growing tensions between normal humans and everyone else, the most interesting thing of note occurs in 2005 when Saint suffers a near fatal blow from an experimental weapon fired by longtime arch-nemesis Leon Leopold. It isn’t enough to kill him, but it does weaken him. Seeing this as a sign, Saint goes into full retirement.
  • 2005-2007 Having retired from Superheroics, Saint becomes Headmaster of Saint Academy. That year and the year following introduced the world to a new generation of heroes. Consisting of demons, deava's and ESPER's, they represented a leap forward in diversity and established what a hero could be. Their time in the spotlight wasn't without controversy. Anti-metahuman/nonhuman sentiments were on the rise, largely instigated by the GAEA corporation. They had connections to the warriors of Earth, but their CEO had a deep history with Class 1. He didn't care about ridding the world of Superhumans. It was a means to an end, an excuse to get back at those who had wronged him. Everything else was an excuse. The Class defeated him again, but it came with a cost.
  • 2007-2010: Before Elim was defeated, he unleashed one last attack against Class 1 and Super City. They fought him back, but the Saint was a casualty. Saint University was built in his honor, a testament to the lessons he had helped teach. But it wasn't enough. Without the Saint, the world became a darker place. Crime was on the rise and human/metahuman relations continued to worsen. In the wake of social unrest, a new group of criminals were poised to take advantage. Led by the sorceress Selene, their goal was to gather certain artifacts of power and remake the world in their image, creating a new Eden. But the cost was not worth the result. Class 1 stopped them again, but the world that remained continued to get worse.
  • 2011: Fresh out of University, the heroes of Class 1 entered the ranks of the Foundation with some new recruits. It wasn't long before things took another turn. In the wake of a zombie invasion, the Saint was seemingly resurrected. Everyone rejoiced. Crime started going down, interspecies relations began to ease. But the truth soon reared it's ugly head. This Saint was an imposter from another universe. They had gone down a similar path, but instead of sitting there and taking it, the heroes took action. They conquered the world and ruled it as dictators, seeing it as a necessary evil. Once their world was conquered, they sent their Saint to ours. With their Saint gone, it wouldn't take much to make them see things their way. Class 1 discovered the truth and sent the Saviors packing, but it wasn't the end of it.
  • '''2012-2013 (Part 1): After the dust settled, the heroes revealed the truth to the public, but it would take longer for things to return to normal. After years of trying and failing to make a difference, the Class and their many friends felt enough was enough. If Foundation couldn't fix things, they'd do it themselves. They left the Foundation and started a new team dedicated to easing tensions and helping where it mattered most. But the villains had their own agenda. After seemingly being killed on national television, Saint's greatest nemesis Leon Leopold came back from the grave. Resurrected in a clone body, he pretended to be his own and began a Presidental campaign. He ran on the most vile and insipid policies imaginable, but the public bought it up.
  • '''2012-2013 (Part 2) It seemed all was lost, but Class 1 didn't give up. Using all of the knowledge and experience they had accumulated, they stood firm and managed to reveal the truth to the public. On the eve of the election they stood against him in one last battle, high above the national's capital on massive battleship, filled to the brim with nukes. Summoning the last resolve, they stopped Leon and took him down, saving the country. But they didn't stop there. Landing in front of scores of reporters, they addressed the nation. All those years of hatred and conflict had nearly brought the destruction of the planet. For the sake of the world and themselves, they needed to let to it go. Nor did they need to pin all their hopes on a single man. Class 1 and their squad were living proof. The nation backed off the precipice of disaster and the rest of the world soon followed.
@2013-2023: After Leon was sent to prison, the world regained its sanity. Interspecies relations slowly improved. The world regained its faith its heroes, putting less emphasis on select individuals and more on heroes as a whole. Museums and and galleries centered around superheroes sprang up. Endless books and documentaries were commissioned and many lesser heroes were given their due. Class 1 and what they became were all legends, each of them having earned their place in history. It has been ten years since the election, but the world only continues to improve. Things aren't perfect, but the world has become a better place and they have their heroes to thank.

The Light That Blinds

Attention, passengers, this is your co-captain speaking, we'll be taking off once everyone's on board. First passenger of the day...

  • Name: Tae-hyun Chong
  • Superhero Name: Windwing IV
  • Age: 19
  • Appearance:
    • Civilian clothes: Resident cutie. Stands at 5'3. Doesn't usually wear goggles outside of superheroing but I'm too lazy to go back and remake the Picrew. Wears a variety of pins on his jacket, including a cat pin, bi and trans flags, the rainbow infinity symbol, and ones for various superheroes. Keeps his costume in his backpack for easy access.
    • Superhero costume: Primarily white, with large light blue lines across the arms, the sides, and the legs. Light blue fabric stretches from the wrist to the hip, like a wingsuit. The boots are white with blue at the top, and also...uh, cloth-y? Like those Halloween superhero costumes. I'm sure they exist, I just don't remember the name for them. There's also a light-blue half-cape that's clipped on (stylish and practical) and blue goggles to protect the eyes, completing the look. Most heroes have their outfits made by Saint Solutions, but Tae-hyun made his costume himself.
  • Personality: Tae-hyun is bubbly, cheerful, and endlessly energetic, throwing himself into superheroics with boundless enthusiasm. He's a can-do individual and immensely empathetic, able to sympathize even with villains and never treating those around him with anything less than kindness. He's a bit scatterbrained, gets lost in his own head easily, and frequently devolves into squeeing fanboyism whenever around his childhood heroes, but he has a good heart. He also possesses a strong artistic streak, especially when it comes to costumes (and has cosplayed his favorite characters on more than one occasion).
  • Backstory:
    • For this to properly make sense (and provide context for later), let's go back a bit. Centuries ago were the Magi-Gems, a set of elemental crystals that provided complete control of an element to whoever had the crystal in question. The Magi-Gems were guarded by an ancient order called the Gem Guardians, whose job was to make sure the crystals never fell into the wrong hands. However, one Guardian, Voidsoul, came to covet the power of the crystals himself. So strong was his lust for power that he attacked the other Guardians to claim the Magi-Gems, causing him to be banished from their order. Years later, he returned with dark magic and battled the Guardians, and the ensuing fight forced them to scatter all across the world, each with a crystal in tow. The Air Magi-Gem's Guardian, Galespin, fled to the US and, years later, transferred its power to Benjamin Breeze, who became the superhero Windwing. When Benjamin died, he passed the power down to his former sidekick Johnny Rogers, the second Windwing; when Johnny retired, he passed both the power and the mantle down to his former sidekick, Paul Bennett.
    • Now for our hero: Tae-hyun was born in South Korea, but grew up in the US, his family having immigrated there shortly after he was born. They originally lived in a small town in Pennsylvania, but when he was twelve, moved to Capetown after his mother got a job offer there. The change in scenery didn't bother Tae-hyun much; on the contrary, he was excited to live in a town of superheroes, having been a fan ever since he was young. Between collecting all the hero merchandise, he dreamed of one day becoming one himself, often sketching out what his costume would look like. For a long while, it seemed it would be nothing more than a dream.
    • But then, when he was 18, Tae-hyun was caught up in a battle between a few superheroes, including Windwing, and the supervillain Photon, who could manipulate light and lasers. During said battle, Photon hit Windwing with a laser point-blank, sending him crashing through two walls and landing near Tae-hyun. A panicked, pained Windwing promptly transferred the powers to him, as he was the closest, before Photon was subdued and the authorities arrived.
    • Even if Windwing hadn't handed over the powers, it wouldn't have mattered; he'd injured his spinal cord in the battle and was paralyzed from the waist down, unable to do hero work anymore. Paul Bennett had to retire, and officially passed the mantle down to Tae-hyun—Windwing IV. And Tae-hyun is very eager to fill those shoes, acing the test with flying colors and officially working with the Saint Foundation as an actual, real life superhero.
  • Legacy: Windwing. A superhero best known for being able to manipulate the air itself, possessing incredible aerokinesis. Three people have held the mantle prior to Tae-hyun: Benjamin Breeze, Jonathan "Johnny" Rogers, and Paul Bennett. While positively regarded overall, Paul's run has been met with mild controversy due to what some perceive as a lesser performance compared to his predecessors.
  • Powers and Abilities:
    • Enhanced Condition: While not nearly as much as other superheroes, Tae-hyun has enhanced strength, speed, and durability—enough to keep him from being pasted in a single hit, at any rate.
    • Air Manipulation: This, more than anything, defines Windwing. Tae-hyun has complete control over the air, which includes both your standard moving air around and attacking with it...and also encompasses things like controlling the air around objects to lift them (including himself, effectively gaining flight), using air pressure to lift heavy objects and land harder strikes, repelling projectiles by controlling air currents, reducing air resistance to enhance speed even further, and controlling air pressure which is kind of terrifying in of itself for a variety of reasons. He's not an expert at the finer points, however.
  • Gear: N/A
  • Nemesis: Voidsoul. An enemy stretching back to the first Windwing, who will stop at nothing to destroy Windwing and claim the power for himself. He has been battled several times, and thought dead five times, only to return unscathed; during Paul's run as Windwing, he got incinerated in a volcanic eruption and everyone believes this killed him for good. Voidsoul puts on an affable front, but is extraordinarily petty, spiteful, and willing to hurt and even kill anyone to get what he wants or spite the people he doesn't like, and thoroughly enjoys it every step of the way. He fights with the power of the void.
    • The truth about Voidsoul is almost as crazy as the man himself. The original Voidsoul was a Gem Guardian, one who believed he would be a better guardian on his own than all his compatriots combined; the others disagreed, and his attempts to force the issue led to him being kicked out. Bitter, Voidsoul turned to dark, corrupting magic, and the ensuing fight forced the guardians to scatter.
    • When Benjamin Breeze defeated Voidsoul for the first time (no small feat) he did, in fact, actually die. But he was so consumed by hatred and bitterness that his spirit lingered, a warped caricature of a human soul fused with dark magic, tied to his nigh-indestructible crystal.
    • Over the years, five people have found this crystal. These people have had three things in common: they feel cheated out of what was rightfully "theirs" and are rather bitter about it, aren't entirely responsible enough to have handled whatever they wanted in the first place, and are, on some level, willing to go to extreme lengths to get it. A few of them have disliked Windwing as well. These people heard Voidsoul's whispers, his promises of power and prestige and getting everything they wanted, and started making use of the crystal's power. And the more they listened, the more power they used, the further they were willing to go, the more manic they grew, the more Voidsoul sunk his claws into them. And eventually, all five of these people were fully taken over and posssessed by Voidsoul. Once Voidsoul's possessed someone, there are only two ways to remove him: either the host must be killed, or they must force him out via force of will. No host has had the willpower for the latter.
    • Right now, the crystal is buried beneath dried lava. It won't remain that way.
  • Trivia:
    • Tae-hyun is on the autism spectrum.
    • His mother Hye-sun is a real estate agent, and his father Chihun is an electrician. Both live in Capetown.
    • He has two sisters, one older and one younger. His older sister Se-yeon is 23 and works as an archaeologist, and his younger sister Jung-hwa is 15 and still in high school.
    • His costume is made of nylon, specifically ripstop nylon, which actual wingsuits are made of.
    • Paul is Tae-hyun's sponsor for the Saint Foundation, and taught him how to use his powers effectively.
    • This doc provides some more lore on the various Windwings. It's not entirely applicable, as it was made for a different setting, but the basics are still accurate.

Name: Achilles Apóneró

Superhero Name: Myrmidon I

Age: 19

Appearance: Achilles and the Myrmidon.

Personality: Achilles is a pretty friendly and energetic kid who puts his body and soul into everything he does, making him pretty Hot-Blooded. He considers himself a bit of a Stock Shōnen Hero, so he strongly believes in pushing past limits, power of friendship, and has a love for Calling Your Attacks.

Backstory: Achilles grew up hearing stories of myths of all kinds. Due to their shared name, he loved the Greek Achilles, and his father's exploits as the Myrmidon were loved. He wanted to become a great hero, and so he honed his body to its limit, training and training. One day, he decided to try and stop a bank robbery. With a life-and-death situation, he awakened his family's power. He took down the robbers, but nearly died in the process when one of them accidentally shot his heel. One of the people he saved, Ifaista, offered him a deal in the hospital. She would test her tech on him, and he would use it to fight crime. Achilles was ecstatic and agreed, helping her with the design. After a lot of trial-and-error, Myrmidon I was born.

Legacy: He took the name and power of his father, the Myrmidon I. Leonidas was a rather mid-level superhero, as his power made him conscious of his vulnerability. After sustaining heavy injuries from his nemesis, Leonidas retired. He's hesitant to let his son out jnto the field, but he chooses to trust his son.

Powers and Abilities: Achilles was trained by his father to push his body to its natural limits. His Charles Atlas Superpower, though strong, isn't as strong as those who have Super Strength or run as fast as speedsters, but it enables him to toss cars with ease and run marathons with ease.

His superpower, however, is named the Heel. Whenever he touches something or someone, he can designate a Heel on it, doubling physical abilities (or durability for objects) but doubling damage on that area. Achilles has the capacity to increase the multiplier, but he'd rather not unless it was absolutely needed.

Gear: Achilles, with his friend Ifaista's help, has the Myrmidon suit, which allows him to cover his Heel (though Plot comes first, and he still worries about people smashing through his armor). It allows him maneuverability as he can use rocket boosters to fly through the air, and his spear is electrified and can shoot blasts of such with the fire rate and power of a sniper rifle. His shield can create a small barrier in front to deter attacks.

The catch is, though the suit is self-sustaining, it can overheat if Achilles puts it to work too much, if he continuously fires with the spear or keeps blocking with the shield's barrier, which disables the firing, barrier and flight capabilities for a while.

Nemesis: Paris. He's a master marksman with Bullseye-level skill, able to use any weapon with frightening accuracy and speed. He's the perfect counter to the Heel, and he knows it. Jealous of Leonidas because Paris loved his wife, they fought several times, and in their final battle, both thought the other was killed.

  • Name: Shao Fei (韶飛)
  • Superhero Name: Stone Monkey
  • Age: 20
  • Appearance: A rhesus macaque with a somewhat humanlike appearance, standing at a height of 5ft tall and possessing a feminine build. Covered in brown fur, with a tan face and bright fiery-golden eyes that give off an incandescent glow. Prehensile feet and tail, allowing her to grasp things and climb with greater precision than most. Dresses in a simple yellow tank top paired with baggy red martial arts pants as her costume, and in casual scenarios she wears generic thrift store bargain bin clothes such as loose jeans and oversized hoodies.
  • Personality: Shao Fei is a cheery, but humble sort; confident enough to throw herself into danger for the sake of others but having enough self-awareness to not let herself get too cocky. She in fact has some serious doubts about her qualifications as a successor to the legendary Monkey King, but she has decided to make her life her own and use her gifts the way that she believes is right instead of just living in the shadow of her ancestor. Possessing a strong sense of empathy and a want to make other people happy, Shao Fei will gladly put herself down if it means building someone else up, and she is eager to improve herself in order to continue to do just that but with greater ease and a larger scope. However, Shao Fei also possesses a more demonic, feral side to her that comes out whenever she's faced with what she perceives as extreme injustice—a constant reminder to her of what her ancestor's true nature was at the end of the day. Thanks to her fiery-golden gaze, Shao Fei can provide deep insight into things she otherwise wouldn't fully understand, giving her a sense of wisdom despite her laidback demeanour.
  • Backstory:
    • Much like her ancestor, a magical boulder slowly formed atop a mountain in China and then split apart over the course of several hundred years, revealing a smooth egg which in turn eroded into a stone monkey. Upon being fully formed, the stone monkey instinctively bowed to the cardinal directions and announced its birth with a gleam of bright sunlight from its eyes, which pierced up into the heavens before subsiding once it had eaten its first meal. The stone monkey, at first confused and unaware of itself, eventually found a group of wild monkeys to stay with, and it was soon welcomed into the tribe.
    • As the stone monkey grew, it became apparent that it was not like the others. Over the years, it grew taller and taller, more humanoid in shape, yet still remained simian in appearance, until it finally had the hybrid appearance of a monkey and a human woman. In accordance with her height, her intelligence also grew, to the point where she began to question her nature and why she was different from her fellow macaques. Soon beginning to explore her surroundings, the stone monkey eventually found signs of human civilization—observing from a distance until it learned to read and take in further information.
    • Knowing that she was between monkey and man, the stone monkey took the name of Shao Fei for herself, thereby separating her from the common simians and proclaiming her individuality once and for all time. Fei began to sneak into human towns in order to steal books, food, and generally anything that caught her attention: she became infamous as a cryptid by the few terrified people who spotted her ransacking their homes, and her rudimentary speech and demonic voice only served to horrify the population further. Soon, she began to be targeted by independent hunters, and had to retreat back to the rainforest.
    • Reading her stolen books and inspecting the trinkets she gathered, Fei realised that the fiery eyes she had been born with granted her greater insight and learning ability. Absorbing all of this information, including some ancient tales as well as the general history of the land, Fei became particularly attached to the stories of Sun Wukong, due to his curiously identical origins to her own. Coming to believe in Wukong's existence, Fei noted that her eyes flared in a particular direction after reading about Wukong's golden-banded cudgel, and so she decided to trust her senses and follow this seemingly destined path.
    • Fei's eyes steered her towards a long-forgotten stone shrine deep in the rainforest, a structure that had been crumbling with age and overgrown with moss and vines. Entering the ancient shrine, her eyes fixed onto the dull metal rod that lay in the centre of it, which she felt the strong urge to touch with her hand. Reaching out for it, the rod was displaced surprisingly easily despite its colossal size, and the shrine began to collapse on top of her once the rod was removed. Feeling that she might die, Fei clung to the rod and closed her eyes, assuring herself that she would be crushed quicker than she would feel the pain.
    • To her surprise, however, she awoke shortly afterwards with a much smaller metal rod in her hands, and only a fading soreness in her body as evidence that she'd indeed been crushed. Noting her rapidly-healing injuries, Fei took her newly-acquired rod in hand and set off with a purpose: she knew now for sure that she was a successor to the Sun Wukong of legend. Now an adult, Fei has continued to educate herself on the human world as well as develop her spirituality, and with her trusty Jí Tiě Bàng by her side, she has decided to learn from her ancestor's stories and use her powers for good to become a hero of a new age.
  • Legacy: The legend of Sun Wukong is one of the most ancient and influential figures in history, and the infamous Monkey King is known for his underdog beginnings, anti-heroic and even outright villainous behaviours, his quest for immortality and recognition, and his eventual humbling and enlightenment so as to finally achieve Buddhahood. There has not been a stone monkey quite like him since, though there have been many imitators: Fei is in fact the first in many millennia to be actually hatched from a boulder like her great ancestor.
  • Powers and Abilities:
    • Strength: Shao Fei is strong beyond strong, able to lift a large boulder with ease and obliterate rocks with her bare hands. She can hold back a person thrice her size, quake the ground with stomps of her feet, and even shatter windows in her vicinity with the sheer force of her strikes. She is nowhere near as cosmically strong as her ancestor was, but she's a formidable foe in her own right, despite her unassuming build. It is noteworthy that her cudgel weighs around 17,550 lbs (7,960 kg), and she can wield it with relative ease.
    • Agility: Shao Fei can leap up to a dozen storeys high in a single bound, scamper along almost as fast as a speeding car, and scramble up buildings with little to no difficulty thanks to her dexterous limbs and tail. She is acrobatic by nature, slow to tire even after a day of constant activity and is even able to contort herself to a degree in order to weasel her way out of tight situations. This makes her a very slippery foe to fight, which she uses to her advantage to avoid getting battered around by opponents who are larger than her.
    • Immortality: Shao Fei has inherited her ancestor's immortality, to an extent: she cannot die from old age, she is immune to diseases and (most) forms of poison, and she is extremely difficult to injure permanently thanks to a potent healing factor that she possesses. While she can be mortally wounded, and even killed, she will turn to stone upon death and recover over a period of time ranging from a week to a few months depending on the severity of the damage. Otherwise, she will steadily heal from whatever hurts her, though she can still feel pain as easily as anyone else and be taken out of commission if she's hit with something especially agonising.
    • Fiery-Golden Gaze: Shao Fei's fiery-golden eyes are more than a simple quirk of appearance; they are inherited from her ancestor and have the ability allow her to comprehend the fundamental nature of things she looks upon. They permit her to spot otherwise imperceptible spirits, and she can also see the auras of living things in general. These eyes grant Fei a degree of insight into both people and objects, giving her a head start in understanding things that would ordinarily be beyond her.
  • Gear:
    • Jí Tiě Bàng: Originally possessing the poetic name of Rúyì Jīngū Bàng (如意金箍棒), the ancient Jí Tiě Bàng (脊铁棒) is indeed the original staff of Sun Wukong, but was replaced after his ascension in favour of a monk's staff, and he left his beloved cudgel behind in a hidden shrine within a rainforest to be preserved for his successors. Thousands of years later, the rod was found by Shao Fei, and its golden bands and dark treatment had long weathered away due to age and the decay of the shrine around it; causing it to appear as a much more humble metal rod with equidistant grooves notched along its length. The staff has the ability to shrink down to the size of a needle, or grow to a maximum length of 20 metres in proportion with itself. Its width can also be shifted within its limits, enabling the staff to be used to wrench open passageways by expanding a small gap or similar. The staff is attuned to Fei's very being, able to be controlled telekinetically from a distance or summoned to her hand, and can be moved even if she is restrained. The staff is also unbreakable, but if it happens to be shattered in some extreme circumstance, it can be reformed from a handful of dust by Fei after a prolonged period of meditation. Due to the cudgel's original ability to duplicate itself in the hands of Sun Wukong, it's possible that this rod is merely one of many duplicates.
  • Nemesis: The Six-Eared Macaque, previously a perfect doppelganger of Wukong, and now a perfect doppelganger of Fei. The Macaque is in fact a manifestation of Fei's more demonic and selfish nature, projected from her subconsciously using her latent ability of cloning herself inherited from Wukong's magical arsenal. The Macaque wishes to take Fei's place entirely, and can perfectly mimic her to the point where it is indistinguishable—however, unlike Fei, the Macaque wants attention and literal reward for its deeds instead of the satisfaction of doing good by others by itself. At first, the Macaque will be indistinguishable from Fei's feral side, but as time goes on, it will eventually separate from her and require Fei to defeat it in order for her to crush her demonic nature once and for all.
  • Trivia: Shao Fei's theme.

  • Name: Tasha Ural the Younger
  • Hero Name: Avalanche II
  • Age: 21
  • Race: Bearfolk
  • Appearance:
    • Casual: A towering polar bear sow, standing over seven feet tall, with fur like snow, dyed red with war paint on her face and chest. A small scar runs across her left eye.
    • Costume: A skintight outfit that covers slightly more than a bikini, exposing her developed muscle, with a bit of fur trimming added for aesthetic.
  • Personality: Confident, strong, yet relaxed. A simple woman who enjoys fighting, and helps the innocent because it is right. She sees no reason to care about anything more, and as a result is quite easy to get along with.
  • Backstory: Named for her grandmother, who's legacy she carries on, Tasha was born to a kindly single mother. While Natalya had inherited the ice magic of their tribe, she had no desire to fight, and so the mantle of Avalanche skipped a generation. Tasha took after her grandma in more than name, and the old woman quickly realized that the younger Tasha would become a warrior hero, much to Natalya's chagrin. The elder Tasha took charge of her grandcub's training, ensuring she would be strong enough to survive, for Natalya's sake if nothing else. But young Tasha was not satisfied with merely taking her babushka's mantle; Tasha wanted to become a better hero than her babushka had ever been. To that end, she attended and graduated from Saint Academy, taking on her retired grandmother's hero name. Tasha the Elder chose not to sponsor her, wanting the younger Tasha to earn her own way in the world. This suited Tasha just fine; her babushka became a hero without help, and so would she.
  • Legacy: Avalanche, the polar hero, hailing from an indigenous Siberian tribe. She moved to America around the time of the second world war and joined the Protectors. Contemporary with the Saint, she quickly became known as a she-bear of ferocious might, said to hold the power of the goddess Moryana, who blows the cold wind from the northernmost sea. Yet despite her fierce appearance and icy power, she held a warm heart, and was said to be a great woman to drink with. That was Tasha's grandmother, for whom she is named, and who she aspires to not merely live up to, but surpass.
  • Powers and Abilities:
    • She-Bear: Being a humanoid polar bear, Tasha is superhumanly strong and durable, possesses a strong bite and sharp claws, and has keen animal senses.
    • Combat: A strong combatant both with axes and in unarmed combat, with a fighting style focused on powerful, crushing blows. She's also quite skilled at axe-throwing.
    • Survival: At home in the wilderness, Tasha can live comfortably off the land. She's a keen hunter, able to track prey over long distances.
    • Holatchakhl Veter: The ice magic passed down through her tribe, the signature power of the hero Avalanche. Tasha can manipulate ice - whether it be frigid wind or frozen water, so long as it is cold enough, she can reshape it, control it, and send it flying at enemies. Her usual tactic is hitting enemies with icy wind blasts, but she can also flash freeze the moisture in the air to form icy constructs, both to attack and for utility. Unsurprisingly, Tasha is resistant to extreme cold.
  • Gear:
    • Everfrost Axes: Twin hatchets formed of crystalized ice, enchanted to never shatter or melt. Being ice, she can manipulate them, and her blood is woven into the enchantment to bind them to her, so she can recall them to her hand regardless of distance.
  • Nemesis: Drought. An elephant folk who brings to bear the power of heat against Tasha's cold. Actually Drought III, descendant of the original, who carries on the familial grudge solely to appease his father. Although Drought and Avalanche were enemies, they never took their rivalry too seriously, and that lack of concern was passed down to their heirs, who think the whole archnemesis thing is silly. Though fierce, Drought is fairly noble for a villain. He enjoys fighting the strong, but doesn't kill - in his eyes, killing the weak is cowardly, and killing the strong is a waste because you can't fight them again.

  • Name: Ryan Brady
  • Superhero Name: Atomix
  • Age: 18
  • Appearance:
    • Ryan dresses in a blue letterman jacket from his last high school, a white tank top underneath, and a pair of jeans most of the time. Ryan, being a varsity linebacker, has more of a hefty, stocky build - tall, muscular but with a bit more of a gut going on. Ryan has light brown hair, bright blue eyes, rather tan skin from running around all the time doing football drills. Ryan's hair is styled to shoulder length in the back but shorter at the top.
    • Hero Costume: Ryan's costume is bright green with a nuclear hazard sign on the chest - the hazard symbol being black. His jaw is uncovered and it includes a heuke - or as is more simply known, a cape on one shoulder.
  • Personality: Ryan is a hotheaded, rather academically challenged jock from the suburbs - where his grandfather combined use of these powers with scientific understanding of what they are and how they work, Ryan barely passed high school chemistry. He can be rather cocky, overconfident, and prone to throwing punches before asking questions. If he sees something he doesn't like he will run in fists flying first and foremost. He's also something of a flirt, though never to a degree that's pushing beyond good behavior - he has principles. Ryan can tend to get a little frustrated with technology, the understanding of which really doesn't come easily to him. Ryan has a sense of curiosity about his Legacy despite how dangerous his superpower awakening was, as his father never really told him much if anything about his grandfather. Ryan wants to build more of a connection with his old man, and is quite enthusiastic to take on his mantle eventually.
  • Backstory: Ryan Brady was born into his Legacy - the powers that his grandfather obtained skipped a generation. His grandfather, Eric Thom Brady, was a gifted scientist - and every bit as much a cocky flirt as Ryan. Eric Brady would end up being "accidentally" locked inside of a nuclear test - and rather than die, he would end up with powers over the very same nuclear energies that had nearly contributed to his death. Eric had a son with Cathleen Doyle, but they would separate and the resultant son, David Brady, didn't have much of a relationship with his father. In fact, David attempted to keep as much distance from heroic life as possible - wanting Ryan to be as normal as possible as soon as he was born. And for the most part, Ryan seemed like a normal, All-American Face kind of guy. He joined the football team first in middle school, and went on in high school to make varsity a year earlier than most. However it was during one practice game that everything went awry. Ryan was attacked in the middle of the drills by what seemed like a random, street walking drifter - who turned out to be a hired cyborg mercenary called The Slayer. Ryan's awakening to his powers came during the brawl with The Slayer, and while the cyborg was repulsed, Ryan almost exploded in the middle of the football field, only barely containing himself enough to retreat to a safer location. With his dad giving him the cold shoulder, Ryan was then approached by the Foundation, which offered him a unique opportunity.

  • Legacy: Ryan's Legacy is one of the original Mystery Men in the old days, the first Atomix. Eric Brady fought against the minions and then the hangers-on of the Reich such as Axis Amerikana, the Black Sun Company, and others. Most people remember Eric Brady for his scientific genius and his great powers.
  • Powers and Abilities: Ryan has incredible strength, durability and stamina - just as the baseline empowered by his real ability. Ryan is basically a perpetual nuclear energy generator, having the sum total power of a hydrogen bomb. He can fire off blasts of intense heat, and beyond that outright blasts of nuclear ignition that require him to clean up the area afterwards. When throwing punches, he can set off an explosion at the site of impact. There are other potential use cases for his power beyond combat, but Ryan being Ryan, he can't really use those.
  • Gear: Ryan's costume actually includes a few little mechanical pieces that serve to alert him if he's producing too much radiation with an alarm.
  • Nemesis: Ryan has inherited his grandfather's nemesis, Dr. Megido, who was actually responsible for the incident that empowered the original Atomix. Winston Allinbrook attempted to have Eric Brady killed because Eric was sleeping with Winston's wife, and didn't even care to conceal the fact. Winston attempted to acquire powers himself roughly the same way, but the mutation that ensued turned him into an abomination locked in barely humanoid armor. From there, Dr. Megido was a fixture of the likes of Axis Amerikana, willing to work for the likes of Hitler himself if it means killing Eric. He's transferred his sheer animosity to the rest of the family line. Thus, it should come as no surprise that The Slayer was hired by Dr. Megido.

  • Name: Jay Beggs Fitzgerald
  • Superhero Name: MagiFlapper
  • Age: 22
  • Appearance:
    • Civilian:
      • Jay is a 5'6" tall, thin blonde woman with grayish-blue eyes. Her face and body are virtually identical to her ancestor, Zelda Fitzgerald.
      • Her hair is always kept short, usually styled in fluffy chic curls. Jay exclusively wears 1920s clothing, with her default civilian outfit consisting of a white cloche hat with a light blue ribbon, a knee-length blue skirt and top; lighter blue stockings and ivory colored plain pumps.
    • Superhero:
      • Jay has two outfits that she Magical Girl transforms into during battle; one consists of a white, wide-brimmed summer hat with a baby blue ribbon and lavender flowers on it; an elegant, flowing chiffon-colored dress accompanied with a scarf, elbow-length white gloves and t-strapped shoes.
      • The other outfit, when she needs to fight in close quarters, consists of a sleek 1920s maroon suit with a red bow tie, a Panama hat, dark brown gloves, slick pants, and two-toned Oxford shoes.
      • Regardless of outfit, Jay has her hair styled in Marcel waves when doing superheroics.
  • Personality:
    • Jay is a flamboyant, showoff girl, often being dramatic and rowdy. She'll cause a scene if she feels like it and is overall free spirited, doing whatever she pleases. She's also quite adventurous and brave, having little to no fear in most situations. Thus, she'll run into danger with barely any thought, mostly for the hell of it. She frequently speaks in a classy but loud voice with some fancy vocabulary and 1920s slang. She's quite eccentric and prone to quipping jokes.
    • She's super hyperfixated on classic literature, especially the works of F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald, who happen to be her ancestors. She's prone to dropping references to classic literature in general. And when she's not being chaotic and/or doing superheroics, you can find her reading books and listening to jazz. She'll happily info-dump about her interests to anyone within ear-shot
    • Jay holds up her ancestors with great reverence, seeking out to emulate them, including the drinking and partying. As a result, Jay is an alcoholic who's semi-functional at best and becomes much more impulsive when drunk. She doesn't seem to acknowledge her ancestors' laundry list of flaws that much outside of a "Yeah, that's true but I still like their legacy" when someone brings it up… on the surface at least. Deep down, she's very well aware that the Fitzgeralds were a shit-show to put it lightly and found herself empathizing with Zelda in spite of her big faults, particularly Zelda's mental issues and how her creative outlets were dismissed. It hurts Jay to think about the tragedy and drama surrounding the Fitzgeralds, so it'll take a while for her to be upfront about it.
  • Backstory:
    • Jay was once a baby named Grace who was abandoned by her birth mother at the steps of a hospital in Montgomery, Alabama. She would've been sent to the foster care system if she wasn't adopted by a particular wealthy family, the Bates. Their youngest child turned out to be a stillborn and the patriarch, Henry, was basically looking for a replacement for the baby as an attempt to please his grieving wife, Susanna. It worked and little Grace was raised in luxury.
    • Growing up, Grace was spoiled by her adoptive mother and doted on by her older siblings. From a young age, Grace showed a rebellious nature, getting into trouble and disobeying authority figures. Her family's status let her get off scot-free from everyone, until her father had enough. Being a staunch conservative who wanted his daughters to be, in his eyes, the "ideal" women, Henry believed that Grace's naughtiness and hyperactivity was leading her down a path he didn't approve of. He punished her by limiting her time outside, sometimes physically hitting her, and occasionally grounding her to her room and not letting her leave. This didn't deter Grace that much and only made her despise her father. One night, she snuck into the father's private library as she felt the sudden impulse to read and when looking for books to read, she found The Great Gatsby. Intrigued by the cover, which featured a dislocated face overlooking a bright city's dark blue skies, she decided to read it and she became obsessed with it. Very obsessed.
    • Enamored with the world of Gatsby, Grace sought out more works by the same author, F. Scott Fitzgerald, in the library. She eventually found Save Me The Waltz and recognized its author, Zelda Fitzgerald. She read it and became obsessed with it as well. This developed an intense passion for classic literature in Grace, who voraciously read.
    • When she was 15, Grace found a strange looking book bound in black with violet accents, entitled the Lumus Ether Grimoire. She opened it and realized it was a spellbook. Curious to see if she can do magic, Grace flipped to a random page, featuring the Ancestral Recall spell. Reading the info and instructions of the spell, she was intrigued, wanting to know who her ancestors were (Grace was aware that she was adopted). It took a few tries to do the chant correctly but when she did so, memories of a particular Jazz Age couple flooded her mind. She watched their hijinks, their parties, their fights, their fall from grace. She saw every single moment of their lives. When she finished viewing these memories, she realized who they were; F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald — her ancestors. Grace was ecstatic at learning that she was descended from the very people who wrote her two beloved books and couldn't believe it. From there, she decided that she'll replicate their spirit.
    • By this point, all of Grace's siblings had moved out and her relationship with her parents deteriorated, as her father became much more strict, overbearing and cruel while her mother did nothing. Since she embraced the Fitzgerald legacy, Grace decided to run away, cutting her hair and renaming herself Jay Beggs Fitzgerald, after the two protagonists of her favorite novels, Jay Gatsby and Alabama Beggs. She was a wandering homeless person for a couple weeks before she saw a flier for Saint Academy and impulsively decided to enroll in it to become a superhero because why not, she has magic. She spent her time at Saint Academy honing her magic, dated and broke up with Jake Hemingway, who would become her arch-nemesis; and eventually graduated. She was then enrolled into the Saint Foundation to continue her path of heroics while living up to the Fitzgeralds' legacy.
  • Legacy: F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald. A rather unconventional legacy for a Saint Foundation member as the Fitzgeralds weren't superheroes, let alone possess any supernatural powers. They were writers who took The Roaring '20s by its core as they lived their lives decadently by drinking and partying while they wrote stories based on said lives and the era they dominated. They were the stars of the Jazz Age and Jay seeks to continue their legacy. However, subconsciously, Jay finds herself leaning towards Zelda and ends up emulating her more than Scott. Since they have the same face and similar backgrounds, Jay ends up managing to feel a deeper connection to her.
  • Powers and Abilities: Her magic all comes from an old spellbook she found when she was 15. She's a decent spell-caster but still has loads of potential that she hasn't unlocked yet.
    • Ancestral Recall: The first spell Jay performed and the one she can do the best. It's where she does a chant to recall the memories of her ancestors. She watches them like videos, being able to pause, rewind and flash forward. She boosts herself by granting herself the skills her ancestors had (for example, she can immediately take Zelda Fitzgerald's ballet skills and use them in battle), though unless she had trained herself in them (which can be done by studying their memories), she'll lose them once the spell wears off.
    • Outfit Switch: A self-explanatory spell. Jay can switch outfits with it, though it's mainly going from her Flapper ware to dandy Sheik wear where physical combat is needed. She can take on other outfits, mainly 1920's fashion, though.
    • Self Enhancement: A spell where Jay boosts her own strength, durability and agility. With this spell, Jay is stronger than the average human and can dent iron easily.
      • Flight Enhancement: A particularly specific enhancement that'll allow Jay to fly. It only lasts for a couple hours and it takes up a good amount of energy to fly, so Jay only uses this spell every now and then
      • Enchanted Charisma: Jay can enhance her charisma to supernatural levels. She can more easily win people over to her side and make them do what she wants (I'll make sure to get player and DM permission beforehand if this were to be used on characters, especially PCs).
    • Magical Blasts: Jay can create magical orbs to attack with, throwing them at enemies. She can make multiple orbs at a time or generate a magical laser beam.
    • Mana Barrier: Jay can create magical shields and barriers that block attacks, though they can shatter when they take enough hits or when hit by a particularly powerful attack.
    • Healing: Jay is able to heal herself and others, although the limit is that she can't heal highly life-threatening/severe wounds or those that are permanent.
  • Gear:
    • Lumus Ether Grimoire: A rather old spellbook Jay found which lets her access magic. The spells she can do with it are listed above.
    • Stylish Cane: Summoned when Jay switches into her suit. As a mostly cosmetic item, she doesn't need it to walk unless she severely injures her legs, but instead she fights enemies with it (the cane is quite sturdy).
    • Umbrella: A 1920's one that Jay carries around with her when wearing her main outfit. She can theoretically fight with it, but the Stylish Cane is a better weapon.
    • Tooled Leather Handbag: A 1920's handbag that carries the Lumus Ether Grimoire and several other books Jay has on hand. However besides the Grimoire, the books she always carries on her are a copy of The Great Gatsby and Save Me The Waltz.
  • Nemesis: Jake Hemingway, AKA The Sunset Hunter, who's the descendant of Ernest Hemingway. A hugely egotistical, misogynistic man full of toxic masculinity trying to follow his ancestor's legacy while possessing none of his writing talent and having most of his worst traits upped by eleven.
    • Appearance: Jake is a hulking man standing at 7'0" feet tall and his body is very muscular (in other words, he has a noticeably bulker Captain America body). His umber brown hair is cut quite short and slicked back; his eyes are a light hazel and he wears a dark-colored, sleek suit with a leather utility belt whose pockets are full to the brim with ammo and a bulky lion skin (head included) over his shoulders that acts like a coat of sorts.
    • Powers and Abilities:
      • Superhuman Physiology: Thanks to a Super Serum he took, Jake has great superhuman strength, being able to rip steel in half with just his bare hands, casually carry an elephant and throw it and his physical attacks hurt a lot. He's also pretty durable and agile, thus he can take on bullets and other heavy hitting attacks.
      • Great White Hunter: Having taken on Ernest's hobby of hunting down exotic wild animals, Jake is a skilled hunter with great marksmanship. He's good at tracking down enemies and has an excellent aim, so it's more practical to block the bullets than dodge them. He's never seen without his trusty shotgun.
    • Relationship towards Jay:
      • Jake first met the then-17-year-old Jay when she was in her junior year at Saint Academy. Her class was helping escorted Florida residents from a hurricane created by monsters, where Jake came to assist them. When Jay learned that Jake was descended from Ernest Hemingway, Jay was ecstatic as A) he's descended from a classic lit author and B) said author was good friends with F. Scott. So, they became friends and within a few months, began dating.
      • Everything seemed fine at first but Jake's issues came to the surface. He didn't like the fact that Jay, a girl, wasn't submissive and often bested him, even though she has magic and he's just a powerless civilian. His toxic masculinity couldn't handle that, leading to the two getting into heated arguments. Jay ended up breaking up with him as she realized that their relationship was going down the same path as her ancestors' incredibly dysfunctional marriage and that pissed off Jake, who attempted to hit her but she countered it very easily with her magic.
      • After the break up, Jake now utterly hated Jay with all of his being and he vowed to become stronger so he can beat the living shit out of her. He found an experimental Super Serum on the dark web, ordered it, and injected it into his body. He underwent a painful transformation that gave him his massive muscular body and superhuman abilities, becoming the Sunset Hunter, Jay's arch-nemesis. He's always tracking her down, hoping to exact his revenge on her.
      • Historically, Zelda, who Jay identically resembles, and Ernest were basically mortal enemies, so perhaps this is just fate repeating history.
  • Trivia:
    • I copy-pasted parts of Jay's My Superhero Fantasy sign-up here because I'm lazy lol.
    • Jay has (undiagnosed) ADHD and is bi, although she's hesitant to get into a relationship due to how badly it went with Jake.
    • Her text is cinnamon and she speaks in a Southern accent.
    • She frequently says "old sport".

Name: Seymour Greene

Superhero Name: The Verdant Whip

Age: 25

Appearance: Seymour's body looks rather like a humanoid dinosaur, having dark green skin, clawed hands and feet, and a tail. However, his head is akin to a man-eating plant a la Audrey II, and the end of his tail has a flower of the same color as his head.

Personality: Tough, brash, and rowdy. Very much a boisterous bruiser. He greatly enjoys combat, whether it be a high-stakes fight against a villain or a friendly sparring match. When he gets heated, Seymour can be almost like a berserker, and may cause up causing collateral damage in a fight. Seymour greatly enjoys his form, but doesn't like being held in one spot (i.e. being captured).

Backstory: Seymour's family originated in Ireland, but ended up moving to the United States, where Seymour himself was born. He was a pretty mundane person aside from a minor knack for gardening. He had a simple job, got his own house, and was not too concerned with the supernatural. That all changed when Seymour's house caught fire one night. Seymour managed to escape, but sustained heavy injuries, including being paralyzed from the waist down, preventing him from doing his job to boot. He lost everything.

-Seymour, in a fit of desperation, joined Mammon Corp, a rather seedy company that had rumors of unethical experiments, and volunteered to test an experimental regenerative serum. The serum did not work entirely as advertised: it brought Seymour back into health, but it also heavily altered his body, resulting in his current appearance, but also his powers. Mammon, CEO of Mammon Corp, ordered Verdant to be held captive and experimented on in order to attempt to duplicate this to his own ends. After a few weeks of experimentation, Seymour busted from Mammon's facilities with his newfound strength, enjoying the process of fighting through Mammon's goons for freedom. After escaping, Seymour decided to become a hero, both to fight evil, and also to give him something to do after losing his job and house.

Legacy: Mammon's Experiment. Seymour is just one of many human experiments of Mammon, and Mammon sees his very presence as a risk to his own public image. Mammon has attempted to perfect the regeneration serum several times, and has ended up with a few failures before Seymour.

Powers and Abilities: -Seymour's odd physical makeup allows him to manipulate his body as though it is made of rubber. This can range from stretching limbs to altering his proportions such as inflating his chest to absorb blows. With enough energy (or training), he could even potentially sizeshift.

-Seymour's body is also incredibly strong and resilient. His plant-like physiology also allows him to gain energy in sunlight (it can't be a direct replacement for solid food, however).

Gear: N/A

Nemesis: Mammon. Mammon is the CEO of Mammon Corp, and sought to make use of Seymour to create his own breed of super-soldiers to get whatever he wanted. He is somewhat well-known, his company makes all kinds of devices and serums, although there are rumors floating about that he tests his products on captured people, which are true and Seymour is just one of many of those.

While Mammon himself is human, some early chemicals and gear he used ended up causing him to resemble a big red devil. Despite looking rather imposing, he's rather childish, petty, greedy, and short-sighted. He mainly only cares about himself and whatever wealth and power he can get his hands on.

Mammon is a fiend when it comes to machinery and science, having designed all kinds of machinery, both to mass-produce for profit and for his own use. Mammon's only real power is being able to transform into his Golden God form: absorbing nearby wealth and treasures to become a giant, golden, jewel-encrusted golem of sorts (basically imagine “King Homer” from the Simpsons when Homer imagines himself winning the lottery). This form is very resilient and can get very large if it absorbs enough money, but it can fall apart back into the money used to make it up if Mammon takes too much punishment.

Trivia: Verdant's Theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvOb276Dqmk&ab_channel=Summitsphere

Verdant speaks with a rough Brooklyn accent.

  • Name: Carol (She hasn't picked a last name, and she certainly doesn't want her "father's")
  • Superhero Name: Mudslide I
  • Age: Complicated. Technically she's only existed as her own person for 5 years, but she split off from a grown adult. If anyone asks, she claims she's 20.
  • Appearance: A young woman made of mud, usually with a nice hat, also made of mud. Carol doesn't really have a superhero costume, since she's made of mud all the time and doesn't really need one.
  • Personality: Tries her best to appear cheerful and friendly at all times, but the reality, as with most things, is more complicated. Driven by fear and loathing toward her "father", she goes out of her way to suppress anything that reminds her of him. This includes things like the sadistic and violent urges she inherited from him, as well as more benign things like her attraction to girls, which she believes is a result of spawning from a man. She's deeply terrified that if she gives in even a little, she'll somehow revert back to being a part of him, despite all the evidence that she's well and truly her own person.
  • Backstory:
    • The story begins not with Carol, but with a man named Cassius Lang. With a long and storied rap sheet involving dozens of counts of armed robbery, aggravated assault, and 1st-degree murder, Lang was finally captured and arrested during a bank robbery gone wrong. Unfortunately, while he was being transported to prison, a freak storm ran his transport off the road, allowing him to make a run for it.
    • Lang's escape was quickly cut short, however, as the poor visibility caused by storm led to him running directly into Suicide Bog, where he began sinking into the mud before he knew what was happening. All his struggles only led to the bog swallowing him faster, and soon he was suffocating to death under the muck. At the precise moment his life left his body, a freak lightning bolt struck the bog, and Cassius Lang rose again, not as a human but as a man of mud.
    • Thus began a long and deadly career as the supervillain Bogslaughter, known for being near impossible to contain to his liquid form. Over 15 years, he never remained imprisoned for more than a few months, and spent most of his time on the run in-between various crimes.
    • 5 years ago, during one of these periods on the run, Bogslaughter created a sub-body to scout for him. It was an offshoot of his main mud body that would sneak around, spy out the local area, and return to him and be reabsorbed, giving him the knowledge without putting the main body at risk. He'd done it countless times, but this time was different. This time, the offshoot suddenly developed a consciousness of her own. Terrified of being reabsorbed into Bogslaughter and essentially wiped from existence, the offshoot went into hiding.
    • Over 5 years hiding from Bogslaughter, the offshoot realized many things. One of the earliest was that unlike her "father", she identified as female, which led to her taking the name Carol. Another revelation was that despite possessing the sadism and violent urges of her progenitor, she had things he didn't: a conscience strong enough to keep those traits in check, and a sense of empathy for others. This last one was hardest on her, as for every victim Bogslaughter took after that point, Carol would question if things could have been different if she confronted her "father" instead of hiding like a coward.
    • Several months ago, Bogslaughter was seemingly killed in a battle with a powerful hero. Carol isn't sure whether she actually believes it, but she's come out of hiding all the same. She immediately applied to join the Saint Foundation, hoping to save enough people to appease a conscience weighed down with her progenitor's crimes
  • Legacy: Unlike most of the people at the Capetown branch of the Saint Foundation, Carol would prefer if her legacy never came to light. Being the "daughter" of the mass-murdering supervillain Bogslaughter is something she views with guilt, not pride, and she hopes that the fact she has identical powers to her progenitor will be dismissed as coincidence.
  • Powers and Abilities:
    • Mud Body: Carol's powers all derive from the fact that she's made of mud. Her liquid body can shift into any shape she desires, and can solidify at will to grip objects or deliver powerful blows, or liquify again to allow the blows of opponent to go right through her, or even get stuck in the sticky muck that composes her. Her normal mass is that of an average young woman, but she can increase this by incorporating mud from her surroundings, increasing her size and power.
    • Weaknesses: Despite being largely impossible to damage by normal means, Carol is vulnerable to severe heat, which can dry her out and leave her immobile, or large quantities of liquid, which can disperse her and leave her struggling to pull herself back together.
  • Gear: N/A
  • Nemesis: Bogslaughter. Though supposedly dead, Cassius Lang's shadow hangs over Carol like a pall. Even before getting his powers, the violent and unfeeling man left a trail of corpses behind him. Carol loathes and fears the man, even now, especially since she can't be sure he's actually dead. With his powers, it would take an awful lot to kill him, and he has a history on lying low for many months at a time. The last thing she wants is to ever confront him, because being reabsorbed by her "father" would be a fate worse than death.
  • Trivia: N/A (at least for now)

  • Name: Alleggerito "Al" Catena
  • Superhero Name: The Second Avatrix
  • Age: 19
  • Appearance: Alleggerito is a scrawny young man of clear Italian stock; short black hair, dull eyes and a skin pale from hours spent cooped up in the family library. His civilian fashion sense is practical, jeans and a white t-shirt most days. His superhero costume however is easily identifiable, a clear attempt to replicate his mother's grand hooded robe dotted with arcane symbols and constellations... However Al's version does not bear glowing runes or sparkling stars and he's been unable to figure out how to achieve that look of unknowable shadows within the hood with eyes shining out from within that he's seen in all the photographs.
  • Personality: Al grew up as a pariah in his own family; after all he was 'responsible' for the death of his father's loved one and their relationship was filled with enough mysticism that it was easy to label him as a cursed child. He harbors a deep sense of insufficiency though one weirdly counterbalanced by the thought that he has the potential to be greater than those around him if those powers everyone expects him to have would just start working...
  • Backstory: For all the magic and mysticism of his parents, Alleggerito's past follows a rather mundane shape; A dead mother, a father whose lack of love for the boy never got worse than an apathetic disregard and an early life spent amid relics of a mother Al never met. He went through mundane schooling, allowed to read what he wanted of the grand library of the home and when he felt like he had the full scope he tried to take up the mantle of his mother's heroism by contacting the Saint Foundation and outlining his parentage. The resulting tests were an embarrassing revelation of how little power and training he had, but there was enough potential there for him to be given a boot camp on fighting and to be shuffled off to Capetown to help deal with street-level crime.
  • Legacy: Al's mother was Hecate Catena, the Avatrix of Magic; thought by many to be the purest representation of a magic-user, bearing both a massive library and the power to utilize its lore for good. She was said to be immortal and impossible to bring to harm through her mastery of prophecy and warding magics and yet she died in childbirth. While it has yet to manifest, those that knew her believe that she has passed the role and powers onto her son.
  • Powers and Abilities:
    • A Different Sort Of Magic: Alleggerito has trained himself in a lot of amateur illusions, sleight of hand and the like, to make up for the fact that he has absolutely no other powers or notable skills.
  • Gear:
    • Coshing Sleeves: The ends of the Second Avatrix's robes are weighted, with the right change of grip they can function as makeshift coshes.
    • "Spells": A selection of low-potency bag-grenades easily stowed into pockets and sleeves, to be thrown. Current selection includes flash powder, incendiary materials and paint.
  • Nemesis: Alexander Catena, the Avatar of Technology. Another immortal, rumored to be the actual Alexander the Great kept alive through progressive eras of technological advancement. He is bold, imperious and seeks advancement for its own sake. Like most others who knew Hecate, he believes that Alleggerito is the new representative of Magic and seeks to continue their eternal inherent conflict against the young man.
  • Trivia: The Avatar and Avatrix are not inherent parts of reality, both were created ages ago not to represent Technology and Magic in their totality, but to restrict them. Their existences bind what Technology and Magic (especially in a heroic sense) can be into rigid archetypes and even the conflict between them was induced as part of their creation. Through her death the Avatrix has unwound her half of the bindings, allowing Magic to be more than the things she herself expressed it as. It is only once Alexander too lays down his mantle that both magic and technology can fully coexist in their natural and unbound states, to be utilized as the sapient races of the world will it.

It's clearly a case of backroom political albumizing.

Name: Maxx Gellan

Superhero Name: Phoenixcaller

Age: 18

Appearance: The mullet is the most important part.

Maxx typically wears expensive clothing, whether it be suits or designer jeans and t-shirts. His favourite attire, and the one he wears as a superhero, is a shiny red coat which uses built-in holograms to create a fire effect. He also wears a pendant with a Dragoncallers card around his neck: usually face-down, but flipping it reveals it to be the legendary Blaze Flare MAX Phoenix, with a unique foil backing.

Personality: Maxx is a proud & easily angered hothead, practically the quintessential fire-based superhuman in terms of personality. His ego is enormous, as is his capacity to hold a grudge. That said, Maxx can channel the deep well of rage within him and use it as a driving force to perform feats of incredible dedication and willpower - and second only to insulting his pride, what enrages him most is seeing people turn to evil to get what they want. If there's one time Maxx does smile or laugh, it's when he's two steps ahead of his rivals and he knows it.

Maxx is somewhat more intelligent than he looks, having been trained from a young age by private tutors - though he would frequently blow those classes off as a kid. He's also quite a talent in matters of technology.

Backstory: Maxx was born the youngest of three brothers and son of Mr. Marik Gellan, the current CEO of the Magellan Corporation. Maxx was generally disliked by his two brothers, who believed their plans to dominate the country via business and politics were much better than his plan to do it via card games.

Speaking of card games, Maxx was and still is an avid player of the trading card game known as Dragoncallers - even getting invited to world tournaments a few times. It was at one of these tournaments that Maxx found himself in the rare position of dueling the creator of the game herself, Yui Yuma. He lost, but the battle was hard-fought and climactic, and claiming to be impressed with the skill that Maxx displayed, Yui handed him a powerful card with a foil pattern she called "destiny rare".

Yui's true motive for giving Maxx the card was a little different, however. Unbeknownst to most, Yui was not just a game designer but an incredibly powerful sorcerer with a penchant for seeing the future, and she had sensed a force for good laying dormant in Maxx from the moment he stepped into the venue. To see that good released, Yui took a Dragoncallers card she had infused with fire magic and ensured that it would fall into Maxx's hands one way or another.

As soon as Maxx realised what the fateful encounter had truly given him, he began practicing wielding the flame in secret until his 18th birthday. He had a new life plan, and he needed to be at the top of his game to make sure he didn't grant his brothers the satisfaction of watching him crash and burn. Who needs dull-and-boring politics when you can save the world?

Legacy: The Magellan Corporation, a massive company that deals in many kinds of technology, but currently specialises in vehicles and weapons of war. Famously, once the current president of the corporation retires, the position will go to one of any number of sons or daughters that they designate as an heir, and the subsequent CEO is free to take the corporation in any direction they want using its wealth and resources. Indeed, although Marik Gellan - the current owner - has been in the seat for a very long time, Magellan did not always deal in weapons of war.

Powers and Abilities:

  • Phoenix's Flame: The magic-infused card around Maxx's neck grants him the ability to create and manipulate fire. His rage can amplify the intensity of this flame, but as Maxx doesn't have much formal training in the subject his power is not as refined as it could be. Conjuring an explosion, for example, would be very difficult unless said explosion is centred on himself. He is also granted a resistance to fire, but not total immunity.

  • Phoenix's Support: For situations where regular fire isn't enough, Maxx can bring flame to life in the form of a phoenix. Its mass and power depend on how much of his own spirit he's willing to exert to bring it out, but he typically tends to make it just large enough that he can ride on its back. Using a preexisting flame also lets him conserve his own energy when summoning a phoenix.

  • Phoenix's Rage: The latent willpower within Maxx, amplified by Yui's blessing, is so great that he can achieve seemingly impossible feats through sheer rage. This includes surviving blows or making exertions that might be fatal to others, or resisting incredible pain. Pushing past his physical limits in this way will often leave him drained and exhausted after the fact, however, to the point where he won't even have the energy to get angry again.

Gear: The Blaze Flare MAX Phoenix with 'Destiny Rare' foil, Maxx's most prized possession and the source of all his power. He wears it around his neck in a pendant to ensure it never leaves his side.

Separately, Maxx's Dragoncallers deck, which in his case is full of rare and powerful firebirds and fire-themed effects. He doesn't really use it to fight crime, but I put it here because it's probably the only other non-generic thing he consistently carries on his person.

Nemesis: Shenandoah. One of the youngest members of the Clear Serpents, a long-surviving clan of swordfighting pirates that swore vengeance against the Gellan line long ago for destroying their home and forcing them to take to the sea for survival. Shenandoah is most easily identifiable by her long, thick, spiky hair, her pale complexion, and the silver nodachi she wields with incredible skill. She also captains a small pirate crew, who make up for their lack of Clear Serpent training with brute strength.

Trivia:

  • Shenandoah uses she/they pronouns.
  • Maxx's brothers are named Matt and Marty.
  • Maxx is 5 foot 6 inches tall.

Ay, you! It's Gold, and I'm noble!

  • Name: Vance Evans
  • Superhero Name: Gunslinger V, V the 13th
  • Age: 23
  • Appearance: Vance is a tallish fellow with brown hair with several golden elements to it, his left arm is a black plastic prosthetic that he covers up when in his civilian identity and he's got deep brown eyes. The sides of his head are buzzed which makes the brown part of his hair all the more obvious. His superhero outfit is a domino mask, black hat, brown bodysuit, black boots, and a red poncho.
  • Personality: Vance is somebody who tries to look on the positive side of life without coming off as overtly optimistic. Vance keeps moving forward and maintains speed in his life, he's friendly and sociable and quick to flirt, he prefers to live life now. While in his vigilante gear he's relatively quiet, he tries to subdue his foes but knows that you won't always be able to.
  • Backstory: Taken from home as part of a research program when he was 14, Vance showed aptitude and potential for an "Enhanced Persons" project, and was subjected to experimentation for nearly 2 years. Vance thought that he would break but was saved by the Gunslinger and escaped, though losing his left arm in the process. V the 12th, Vincent, took Vance under his wing and helped train him, even getting him outfitted with a new hand, making use of his enhanced skills and training him in the way of gunslinging. Within 3 years, Vance took over as the new Gunslinger V, and has only recently begun his fight for the people. He's ready.
  • Legacy: The Gunslinger V, a title dating back to as early as the civil war, though some records show potentially earlier runs of the Gunslinger with coated individuals wearing plague doctor masks. The Gunslinger is a nameless figure who stands for others against tyranny and power, a wanderer who will always be there for those who cannot stand for themselves. There have been 13 Gunslingers because some of them have not lived long enough to properly heir in a new generation, resulting in needing to ensure a new Gunslinger is ready often before they finish their tenure.
  • Powers and Abilities:
    • Enhanced Ability - From strength, endurance, to reflexes and eyesight, Vance was part of a super soldier program that sought to make superhumans. Vance benefits from these immensely though he keeps his head straight, refusing to see himself as anything other than human.
    • Gunslinger Training - Trained under his mentor, Vincent, Vance himself is a skilled fighter and gunslinger, knowing the tenants to keep moving, look ahead, and be quick on the draw. As such even if disarmed of his weapons he’s still capable of fighting hand to hand, and with his enhanced ability he’s also less likely to kill someone accidentally with his skills.
  • Gear:
    • Revolver V - A large caliber 6 shot revolver, Vance likes to claim it was passed down but each V has to make their own weapon as a gunslinger. Balanced in its weight, the double action system allows Vance to fire as quickly as he can pull the trigger, and accurate down to a centimeter in shot.
    • Black Arm - Vance’s left arm is a prosthetic, made to replace the one he lost. While it functions as a proper hand with little issue, in the forearm is a projectile system that Vance keeps loaded with explosive projectiles, mostly smoke and stun grenades, but he also has a few thermal grenades as well just in case.
    • Bulletproof Poncho - You don’t survive as long as he does without at least some protection.
  • Nemesis: The Baron, a figure from the early days of the Gunslingers, a figure of influence and power who is seemingly immortal. Nobody knows who or what he is, just that he is and seems intent on enacting his will upon others, the Gunslingers have been trying to figure out his intentions for generations and have gotten no closer. He has appeared where every Gunslinger is, and is often opposed to their efforts, though he seemingly vanished around the second world war and was not seen until recently, when Vance took over.
  • Trivia: Was watching Trigun recently so that may have been an influence.

  • Name: Anna Gaines
  • Superhero Name: Overtaker II
  • Age: 24
  • Appearance: Anna has blond hair in a ponytail and wears glasses. Her civilian clothes consist of a simple t-shirt and jeans. As Overtaker, she wears a purple bodysuit with silver body armor to protect herself from hits she can't use her powers to protect herself from.
  • Personality: Anna is outgoing, and eager to help others. However, she is hesitant to act, fearing that she'll end up going to far and go down the path her family did.
  • Backstory: Anna was one of two children born to a supervillain who hoped to raise a child who could defeat the Saint. Though the more powerful of the two and the one her father wanted to become the next Overtaker, Anna saw how wrong the actions her father was training her for were, and desired to use her power for good. Once her father passed away, Anna enrolled at the Saint Academy, and upon graduating she began her career as a superhero, hoping to make a better legacy for the name Overtaker. She's recently moved to Capetown to become a member of the Saint Foundation.
  • Legacy: Overtaker, aka Sebastian Gaines, a well known member of the Saint's rogues gallery during his semi-retirement with the ability to temporarily absorb matter to increase his size and power thanks to a lab accident. He never mattered much in the eyes of the Saint, just another threat he dealt with, but Overtaker was obsessed with taking down the hero who kept beating him, and when he learned that gaining his powers had shortened his lifespan, Sebastian decided that he would raise someone who could finish the job in the event he could not. As a result he had twins that inherited his powers, and he attempted to train the stronger of the two, Anna, to become his successor. Ultimately, Sebastian ended up passing before the Saint retired, but his memory still weighs on his daughters.
  • Powers and Abilities: Energy absorption. Anna can take in and store various types of energy and then control and release it. This includes kinetic energy, letting her move faster, jump higher, hit harder, and protect her from blunt force if she's prepared, but not more concentrated forces like bullets or blades, as well as electrical energy, which she can shape into tools or shoot back out.
  • Gear: Night-vision mask. As Anna needed something more durable than glasses for her superhero costume, she decided to also get something that lets her see in the dark.
  • Nemesis: Assimilator, aka Felicia Gaines, the twin sister of Anna. Weaker in terms of power, Felicia recognized that she was seen as lesser by her father, leading to her working far harder than her sister at becoming the villain their father wanted, and learning to gain power by absorbing other beings for their abilities. But with the Saint retired, Felicia has decided to go after the next best thing to prove that she had reached the level to surpass her sister: the Saint's Legacy. Now going by the Assimilator, she has become infamous for attacking Saint Foundation members and Saint Academy graduates and, well, assimilating them into herself, making sure she'll be ready when she proves to her sister that she's the one worthy of the Overtaker mantle.
  • Trivia: Anna could technically pull off the same feats with her powers as her father and sister. She chooses not to due to the amount of damage the former causes, and the immorality of the latter.

  • Name: Yashmin Khan
  • Superhero Name: Gilgamesh, King of Uruk. They are technically the second hero to bear that name, but they bear the soul of the first. Gilgamesh is their preferred name and they'll correct anyone who doesn't acknowledge it. Stands at 6'8.
  • Age: 22
  • Appearance: Blast from the past. Alternates between modern clothing and something more old fashioned. Her costume is based on her battle togs from her previous life, refitted and adjusted to suit her new form. Stands at 6'8.
  • Personality: Before Yasmin was Gilgamesh, she was Yasmin Khan, and some of Yasmin remains. She could be timid, awkward and clumsy, stumbling over herself and struggling to find the right words. She was spirited and determined, even if somewhat demure, lacking the confidence to step forward. But she possessed a strong sense of compassion that kept her from so much as hurting as a fly. Things that could not be said of Gilgamesh.
    • As Gilgamesh she's incredibly arrogant and haughty, often butting heads with authority or those whose think they're better than her. She has enough humility to bend when necessary or to those who have earned or deserve her respect. When she’s not being an ass, she can be joyful and cocky, Boisterous and full of herself. Grabbing the bull by the horns and facing her problems head-on. But underneath the bluster, she can be often be somber and reflective .She understands loss and sorrow, and even if she doesn’t often express it, she knows too well the inevitability of death. Given a second chance at life, she’s determined to live to the fullest and inspire others to do the same, protecting those sees as her subjects and keeping her kingdom safe. As far as she's concerned, the whole world is her kingdom and she will do anything to save it.
    • Part of Yasmin remains in Gilgamesh, but as she's gotten older, her past self has become more pronounced. She's begun to to think herself as Gilgamesh and often corrects those who call her anything else. But sitting under that massive ego is a confused and anxious young woman who doesn't know what she's supposed to be. Should she be the hero reborn? Slayer of Pumbaba and the Bull of Heaven, King of Uruk? Or does the world need something more?
    • As the former king of Uruk, Gilgamesh is an expert politician. Her knowledge of modern politics is somewhat outdated, but she's learned enough as Yasmin Khan to fill in the gaps. She has a deep understanding of populism and socio-economics thanks in part to her college education and knows how to play the crowd. She's inherently charismatic and commanding, coasting along on her strong personality. She has centuries of experience running a kingdom and knows how to handle situations that need more than punching to solve.
  • Backstory: Gilgamesh is the Gilgamesh. Born in the early days of Mesopotamia, they were a strong and proud ruler if somewhat haughty. But after many adventures and hardships, they were eventually humbled. They lived a long and glorious life, but death caught up to them in the end. But it was only the first step in their journey. Thousands of years later, a new age of heroes had begun, filling the land with great deeds and inspiring the masses. In their wake, the Gods felt it proper to resurrect one of the greatest heroes of all, using their past glories and sterling leadership as an example for this new breed to follow.
    • But there was a snag. To bring Gilgamesh back from the dead, they had to reincarnate his soul within the body of an infant. And they didn't have a say on who or what the infant would be. As a consequence, Gilgamesh was reborn in the body of a baby girl. The girl grew up in modern society, but her memories of her past life gradually resurfaced, beginning to taking hold as she approached adolescence.
    • Her memories and abilities restored, she sought to honor both the new world and the one of old as a hero, inspiring others to act with the same strength and conviction that brought her to glory. Even so, some of Yasmin Khan remained, and that part of herself wanted nothing more than to live a normal life. Unable to commit, she joined Saint Academy and Saint University, hoping to discover herself before choosing her path. Now that she's graduated she's largely settled herself out, but still has some doubts. She set out for Capetown, both to honor her legacy as part of the Foundation and to establish a powerbase. What better place to start building clout than the Saint's hometown?
  • Legacy: Gilgamesh. King of Uruk, Slayer of Pumbaba and the Bull of Heaven, hero of Mesopotamia. Their adventures are well documented in the ancient tables even if some of them were not preserved. For millenia their stories were little more than myth and legend, but the advent of a new generation of heroes returned them to providence. Yasmin is technically the original's successor, but she holds the memories and soul of the first.
  • Powers and Abilities: (Gilgamesh is powerful and durable, capable of tossing around tanks with ease and leaping great distances in a single bound. She can shrug off explosions with only some mild burns and has enough Godly stamina that she needs little food or drink and can go without sleep for days at at time. But she isn't invincible. She heals a bit faster than most, but still needs to recuperate.
  • Gear: Gilgamesh wields her trusty blade, enchanted by the god Enki himself to summon powerful blasts of electricity. She also carries an unbreakable shield, blessed by their eternal Godmother Ninsun. Forged from the same metal used to build Gilgamesh's throne, she can throw it like a boomerang, homing in on her foes and always coming back. Combined with her sword and incredible strength, she's a force to be reckoned with.
  • Nemesis: Ishtar, Goddess of Love and War. Ishtar was notorious for being a vengeful slut. With her natural beauty and full control of her dominion, she could woo anyone who tickled her fancy and disposed of them just as easily. Anyone who spurned or crossed her was as good as dead. When Ishtar came to Gilgamesh's chambers, he was all too familiar with her tricks. In retaliation she sent the Bull of Heaven to trample the city of Uruk, but Gilgamesh and Enkidu sent it packing. After the dust was settled she begged the other Gods to kill Enkidu out of spite, but it wasn't enough for her. Even after Enkidu's death she continued to hound Gilgamesh and make their life a living hell. Only upon his death did she give up, but as soon as they returned they resumed their crusade. Her goals are simple. Bend Gilgamesh to her will or make them suffer. Any of their friends or associates are potential playthings and she will not hesitate to use them to get what she wants.
  • Trivia: Gilgamesh enjoys fighting, drinking, action movies, and raunchy comedies. She also has a deep love for history, especially for that of or before her original incarnation. They tend to dress or act as a girl because they're used to it, but could dress as a man and wouldn't bad an eye. Some people would call her gender fluid, but they're above such paltry notions as gender. If anything they'd be insulted.
    • Gilgamesh is also a skilled fighter, capable of slicing enemies in two or slugging it out barehanded. She's an experienced leader, having ruled her kingdom of old for decades, though the part of her that is Yasmin Khan often holds her back. To top it off, she's a decent tracker and survivalist, having learned from her... friend Enkidu in her previous incarnation.
    • This isn't something she touts, but Gilgamesh is possibly the father to modern humans. Her original incarnation lived around 4000 BC, but humanity's most recent common ancestor dates back to 1400 BC at the earliest. Because of this, all humans living today are technically their descendants. She doesn't let it get in the way of casual flings, but it helps shut down racists and is a fun way to mess with people.

  • Name: Giph Kir Starburst (not her birth name, which is unpronounceable by Earth tongues)
  • Superhero Name: Mindswarm II
  • Age: ??? (roughly equivalent to an early 20-something in human terms)
  • Appearance:
  • Personality: Though Giph can easily come off as an inscrutable alien being - by virtue of being completely mute, lacking in facial expression, and communicating only in telepathy - and indeed, on the job she's straitlaced and objective-oriented, seeking to maintain professionalism. That facade comes crumbling down if you ever catch her in a quiet moment, and underneath, she's... not all there. Part of it can be explained by her still getting to grips with life on Earth, and she still slips up and takes metaphors as literally as possible every so often, but even then she has a noted tendency to go on odd mental tangents with little relation to the current situation, which she won't hesitate to broadcast to everyone around her. It doesn't help that she also has a sarcastic streak and likes to troll the Earthlings by telling them blatant lies about herself and her species. On top of that, she can occasionally come off as a Smug Super insensitive towards the species she's pledged to protect, viewing their concerns and conflicts as small potatoes in the face of the wider universe, even when most humans would disagree.
  • Backstory:
    • Giph's people, evolved from silicon-eating asteroid worms on a frozen world surrounding a core of psychic energy, were once a relatively peaceful civilization, if a bit preoccupied with bureaucracy, based in the business of information trading and scientific research. Indeed, though there remain no more records, it's possible they observed Earth in distant times past, leaving their mark on future pop culture in the process. Unfortunately, their planet's unique composition and their own psychically-interlinked nature made them a pretty big target for Unison, an intergalactic - possibly extradimensional - assimilator of immense psychic power. Arriving through a wormhole, they easily converted the entire species into thralls for their cause, to bring all life in existence into their arms. Using them as 'Controllers', they were set to work attacking other worlds in the Milky Way and bringing more species into the fold, until eventually Unison's thrall army set their sights on an insignificant little blue marble called Earth.
    • They first landed their forces on the moon, overrunning the human colonies set up there in less than an hour, cutting off all communications, putting up shields to prevent interference and converting their populations into more thralls, intending to use it as a forward operating base for the invasion of Earth proper. Fortunately for Earth, they never got the chance. For you see, they chose to invade when Mindswarm, AKA Selene Wongsawat - the moon's first native-born superhero - was visiting her family. As it happens, Mindswarm was also a powerful psychic herself, and not only was she able to resist being enthralled, she started using her well-trained protective powers to undo the enthralling process on the other humans Unison had claimed. Despite this, it was clear they had no chance of driving off the incursion on their own, and so put up a fierce resistance until communications could be re-established. Once the word was out and the shields were down, other supers from Earth intervened and successfully beat back the incursion, closing the wormhole they arrived in.
    • When the wormhole closed, the alien thralls left behind started dropping like flies, for reasons still not known. Mindswarm did, however, manage to save one of them - the Controller she was fighting at the time. Sensing them experience horrific sensory overload that threatened to send them into a fatal shock, she reached into their mind and calmed them down. Knowing that the alien was being used as a tool against their own will, she took it upon herself to look after them as they recovered and re-learned how to live as an individual again. That alien later took the name of Giph Kir Starburst, and as she learned more about Earth and its people, she had... mixed opinions, but the kindness Selene had shown her convinced her that, whatever humanity's faults, they were worth protecting - and furthermore, perhaps humanity was the one species mad enough to actually defeat Unison, or die trying.
    • After a few years of this, Selene had to leave, saying that she and her sponsors at the Dawnscott Research Institute had discovered a safe means of communicating with Unison, and intended to gather as much info about the assimilator as possible. Giph volunteered to go in her stead, but Selene shot the idea down - too risky, too much of a connection between them. Giph wasn't happy about the implications, but trusted that Selene would return safely. The very next day, the entire wing of the Dawnscott Institute where the experiment was held disappeared in a dark flash, and everyone inside, including Selene, was declared missing. Still, Giph waited for days, then weeks, then months, long after Selene's status was changed to 'missing, presumed dead'.
    • Eventually, after a discussion with Selene's younger sister Shelly, Giph made a decision. With Selene gone, Unison still out there, and humanity still too caught up in petty squabbles to care, someone needed to take up the mantle of Mindswarm. Giph was that someone, and with some convincing, she was permitted to join the Saint Foundation and get to grips with how Earth heroes do business.
  • Legacy: Mindswarm, AKA Selene Wongsawat, the child of first-generation Thai immigrants, first to Canada and then to the Moon. Holds the distinction of being the first ever superhero to be born on the moon, and for a long time was mostly based there. Discovered her psychic powers later in life, and initially joined the Saint Academy because of its comprehensive Psychic Theory program - it wasn't until later she decided to actually go hero-ing. Was an astrophysicist in her spare time, and often worked with researchers at the Dawnscott Institute on the moon. Absolutely adored her little sister Shelly (who currently works as an aerospace engineer and remains a good friend of Giph's). Currently missing and presumed dead after disappearing in a mysterious 'lab accident.'
  • Powers and Abilities: Giph's species naturally possess psychic abilities, with the most powerful among them said to be able to effortlessly fold the laws of physics like paper. She's still a little rusty even after so many years, since she needed to re-learn how to consciously use her powers, and even at their peak it won't compare to how powerful she was while channelling Unison. In general, her powers come in two flavours: focused, and unfocused. Furthermore, they all require a degree of mental concentration (the focused variants more so) and so disrupting that concentration can leave her vulnerable.
    • Gravitokinesis: The ability to manipulate local gravitational fields, this has a wide number of applications. Most obviously it can function as a form of Levitation, enabling Giph to float above the ground (indeed, due to her height this is her preferred way of getting around) or even Not Quite Flight when more thought is put it into it, or warping gravity around her to 'blink' across short distances at imperceptible speeds, creating the illusion of teleportation. When focused, she can push and pull a directed 'stream' of gravity, either dragging objects towards her or flinging them away. When unfocused, she can either make any nearby objects or creatures 'orbit' around her in a 20-foot radius, or create a gravitational shockwave to push things away. She can even combine the two, focusing on particular orbiting objects to throw them. This can also function as a barrier against kinetic projectiles, catching bullets into the path of orbit. One big limitation, besides the need to concentrate, is the inability to 'hold' - if she pulls, she has to fling.
    • Mental Manipulation: Her other signature ability, and just as applicable, if not more so. First of all, she's constantly broadcasting an ambient telepathic field, enabling easy, wordless communication with anyone she focuses on (or just everyone around her if she doesn't care to focus, which is often). Though she can't read minds, if permitted to get up close to someone and come into direct physical contact with them, she can perform a 'mind-meld' of sorts, exchanging memories and emotions - though she has to be careful when doing this, as over-empathizing can lead to directly absorbing the target's feelings and experiences and internalizing them as if they were her own, with potentially disastrous consequences. At range, she can cast a 'confusion beam' of sorts, scrambling the mental faculties of a particular target (at the very least, they're getting a horrific migraine), or inflict the same fate on everyone around her when unfocused. She can also turn it around into a 'clarity beam', clearing a target's mind of doubts and distractions and giving them a newfound resolve. Perhaps her best-known use of this power, as with the original Mindswarm, is the so-called 'clarity field', the ability to go into a hibernation and reach out to minds close by, linking them together in a co-ordinated synthesis, enabling objectives, orders and information to flow freely, wordlessly, and nigh-instantly.
  • Gear: N/A
  • Nemesis: Unison, the One Universal Mind.
    • Not much is known of their background or origins. They are ancient, being millions of years old, and believed to have been born in a parallel dimension many layers below ours. Once a humble psychic, something happened to turn them into what they are now - whether it was a genocidal attack from a hostile invader, persecution by their own people, or a simple tragic accident, this something made them snap and their powers grew far beyond their control, destroying their body and absorbing the minds of everything around them. Desperate for help, they instinctively reached out to whoever was nearby, only to rip their minds away from them as well.
    • After consuming the minds of their entire species and becoming one with their homeworld, they sent out armies of thralls to consume even more species, more planets, more galaxies, their power growing each time. Not even the Gods of the dimension were spared. Knowing it wouldn't be long before their entire universe was consumed, some species tried to destroy themselves and any possible means of travel along with them, hoping that with no other means of sustenance, Unison would eventually starve. This may well have happened, but somehow, Unison found a way into our dimension, and they're as hungry as ever.
    • There's only speculation as to why they do this - common consensus is that they've been driven partly insane by their own power and are not wholly conscious of their own actions, but on the other hand, their thralls are not mindless berserkers - the invasion of Earth's moon demonstrated a basic understanding of tactics and strategy, at least. There may well have been a mission to unite all of existence into one harmony, without that pesky 'free will' thing causing problems.
    • Unison has a plant motif, for some reason - possibly implying their original species was plantlike in nature, but might just as easily be a sign of how many biospheres they've consumed. One of their most recognizable powers is Biokinesis - those enthralled by Unison often undergo mutations to adapt them better for combat, developing plantlike features like vines and flowering growths. Even death is no escape for these thralls, as their corpses are used as mulch to create specially-constructed abominations, often fusing with bits of earth or recovered technology. At a certain level of Unison's influence, the very biosphere itself is turned into a weapon. Giph only escaped the worst of these mutations because Unison found their people's natural psychic aptitude to be 'enough'.
    • The big thing holding Unison back is an inability to create - it can only consume and co-opt the creations of others, including technology, and thus far they've yet to find an easy means of FTL travel or teleportation across interstellar distances, forcing them to rely on naturally-occurring wormholes. Giph knows that it's only a matter of time before Unison finds another way to Earth, and they won't make the mistake of underestimating humanity again.
    • Unison very rarely shows themselves, typically remaining cloistered in their home dimension. Occasionally they may take the form of an incomprehensibly huge vine clutching planet-sized rocks for eyes, snaking through a wormhole back to their home. Even this is merely an extension of the hive mind - it's not certain if they even have a body anymore, since their original was destroyed so long ago.
  • Trivia:
    • Giph is a big video game geek. She's something of an archivist in her spare time, maintaining a collection of old games ranging roughly from the Atari era to the PS1 (ostensibly to preserve them in case humanity is ever driven to extinction).
    • Her name originally came from the .Gif format. 'Kir' is a combination of Kif and GIR. 'Starburst' was a reference to her favourite candy, lime-flavoured Starbursts™. Lime-flavoured anything, really. :V
    • Giph's species were both biologically sexless and culturally genderless, reproducing asexually via cloning. She chose to identify as female after Selene explained the concept of gender to her.
    • Despite her immense psychic power, she lacks any kind of special protection against normal physical attacks.
    • Instead of sleeping, she enters a state of torpor where she remains aware of her surroundings. She can sleep, but just chooses not to, ostensibly for 'personal protection'. The truth is, when she sleeps, she suffers nightmares where she re-lives the memories of those consumed by Unison. She totally doesn't let it get to her, though. Her mind is far superior.

Name: Abigail Courthope

Superhero Name: Cobblestone (4th)

Age: 20

Appearance: In her civilian self, she wears a dark purple/red t-shirt under a dark brown leather jacket, light blue jeans, steel-toed boots (each toe tipped with a smiley), and a black beanie. Her arms display a lot of colorful tattoos, as does much of the rest of her body. Abigail is a wiry, fit young woman with olive skin, dark reddish hair (dyed), and a small piercing on one nostril. She also wears a small amulet with a brownish-gray stone set in the middle.

In her transformed state as Cobblestone, she grows to about seven feet tall and is built like a tank. Her body is formed of intricate patterns of bumpy gray stone like her namesake, some of which are a little chipped and faded. Her eyes glow a bright yellow. Her hands have an additional thumb, and her feet only have two large toes. She usually wears a pair of stretchy teal shorts and a matching tank top under her clothes that somehow fit when she bursts out of her clothing since she has significant bumps on her stony chest that she’d feel weird to leave uncovered. Sometimes her beanie survives as well, a very minor mystery she’s never quite been able to solve but always cheers her up when it occurs.

Personality: Abigail is friendly, outgoing, and very enthusiastic. She loves being a hero and having powers. Anything she can do to help others or make people feel better will be her first priority, whether that’s breaking up a fight, steering a conversation away from an uncomfortable subject, or trying to talk it out instead of fighting. Paradoxically, she also really likes fighting and isn’t above using the well-established Cobblestone reputation for intimidation purposes, since it’s common knowledge that Cobblestones have killed in the past (both were necessary, but also were quite a while ago and the details have become blurry to the public). Abigail is also very foul-mouthed. Her Cobblestone voice is deep and somehow hollow and slightly disquieting, but a close listener can tell it's her.

Backstory: For as long as they could remember, the Courthopes had an alien Ship in their backyard. It had crashed there far in the past, and none of them knew if it had been a factor in their ancestor's choice of settling there. Some members of the family chose to ignore it, and since it was almost totally buried this was easy to do. Some went on long expeditions into the massive craft, and some didn’t come back. Everyone kept the secret of the Ship safe, both as a mark of family pride and to stop a horde of visitors and scoundrels from trying to loot the Ship. The amulet was found on one such trip, bound around the upper limb of a humanoid carcass that dissolved at a touch. This made folks leery of touching it, and it wasn’t until Forbearance Courthope picked it up on a dare that the Cobblestone legacy began.

Abigail grew up knowing about her heroic ancestors and worked hard to be worthy. The possible dangers didn’t concern her, and she relied heavily on her father, honorary uncle Gremory, and the remains of the Cobblestone manual. As she got older, Abigail became more aware of the pall of bad luck that seemed to follow the Courthope family around. From what her father told her later, it had begun almost the first moment Paul and her mother began seeing each other. Flat tires, random crimes, and her beloved uncle Salim being fatally run off the road by a driver who was never found. This pattern of trouble would ebb and flow but seemed unending until their wedding. During the day of the ceremony and their week-long honeymoon, everything was perfect. (This was due to a moment of conscience striking Gremory. She looked so happy on that day that he simply couldn’t spoil it, and afterward other Skull business took precedence).

As the Courthope family grew, so did the severity of their “bad luck.” Vandalism, pets vanishing, and even Abigail’s younger brother Henry was badly beaten one night on the way home from work. Thankfully he managed to flag down a passing cop car and recovered within a few days. Paul and Gremory both investigated the crime, but no concrete evidence was ever found. Abigail’s birth was another day of peace, both because even Gremory couldn’t bring himself to harm a little baby and because Paul had slept at the hospital to be near his wife, and Grem “knew” that an enraged Cobblestone would defeat and probably kill him with little effort (Paul was at this point a devout pacifist, but Gremory’s mania discarded this fact since it didn’t fit with his grand design).

The Screaming Skull (for so the being who seemed to torment their family named himself in a bloody note) never came after Abigail directly. She was the child he should have had with Karima. Instead, he carefully pruned her life like a bonsai, using his wealth, tech, and dreams to decide who would be a good influence on her. Is a teacher not giving her enough attention or challenging work? He’d be found cuffed to the back of a moving train. Is a prospective romance not right for Abigail Courthope? Rope soaked with flammable orange peels wrapped around their head and set alight. These deaths were sporadic but never accidental, and though she had nothing to do with them the stress was enough to make her change schools and even her last name for a time until she got her powers. When she took possession of the amulet much of this came off her back, but the memories remain and she’s still waiting for the next bit of bad luck to pop up. Unknown to her family and Gremory, she has a very strong suspicion of who the Screaming Skull might be under his mask…..

Legacy: Her great-grandfather Forbearance was the first Cobblestone, and he used it to arrest and subdue bad guys that the law couldn’t and wouldn’t touch. Some were superhuman, and some were simply too numerous or influential for anyone other than a massive stone man to apprehend. Among the worst of them was some kind of mad-natured spirit that had kidnapped children. The spirit, who he’d been forced to kill, had begun eating them before he arrived. and It helped that the old man had lost a leg to a beartrap, and “an ancient cripple” was off of everyone’s list of suspects. The deaths haunted him, and he decided to hand on the amulet when he thought he was dying of a cold. He did survive but felt that he was getting too old for the life anyway.

The next person who took up the name was her older cousin Bernard. This Cobblestone had been more public, giving a few interviews and trying to make a name for himself both out of a desire for fame and because he recognized his limitations. Bernard’s hardest fight was against some sort of alien beast that had burst out of the Ship and simply attacked the house. Once again, a Cobblestone was forced to take a life by beating the monster to death. He continued as a hero for the next twenty years and happily passed it on to Abigail when she came of age. He also wrote a sort of “handbook” to the amulet, but some of it was lost when their house mysteriously burned down.

Abigail’s father Louis tried to be the next in line, but he was injured and traumatized by an attack on him by an unknown enemy, only to be saved by his cousin’s oldest fighting partner, a hero named the Silver Skull. Together, they defeated the strange robot, and Lous introduced the Skull to his fiancee Karima, and step-daughter. His tales of heroism sparked Abigail’s desire to be one as well.

Powers and Abilities: Abigail is an athletic woman, able to do most things she puts her mind to physically. She’s well-taught in judo and boxing, though her style is more adapted to her larger form and isn’t as clean as it could be otherwise. As Cobblestone, she’s very strong and tough, can leap great distances, and is able to form small baseball-sized gray rocks in her hands for throwing. If she’s on natural ground, Cobblestone can pull up a boulder without seeming to damage the area. She’s also much harder to hurt or move when standing on pure earth or rock (gravel is an iffy one) and can even speed up her healing when resting there and not doing anything else. Abigail is an excellent baseball player, and as Cobblestone (and only in that form, for whatever reason) is fluent in French.

Gear: Abigail has a small device on an amulet around her neck. When touched and she concentrates, an outline of a much larger form will appear around her, and her body will begin to swell and darken into her Cobblestone body. (In theory, it should be able to form a body from any material she imagines, but it was allegedly damaged, and no one’s been able to fix it yet.) The amulet only works for her bloodline, and is seemingly indestructible, leaving a question as to how it was damaged in the first place. She also carries a small first-aid kit, water, and spare clothes in a satchel.

Nemesis: Gremory Hawkshaw is a man who, much like Abigail Courthope, deeply enjoys having power. At one point, he was a well-known terror hero called the Silver Skull, but that was a long time ago and his reputation has been turned so completely the other way that no one now even remembers those days. He secretly hated the Courthope family for years and told himself that he was in love with Mrs. Courthope, as well as “protective” of Abigail. So, he was more than willing to set fire to their home in order to destroy the Cobblestone book, secretly build a robot to attack and harass her father to show her how much better he was than her dad even while they were teammates, and that he was “toughening her up” to be a good hero.

As the Screaming (formerly Silver) Skull, he can turn all or part of his body into that of an animal. So he could grow wings, become a flock of crows, or just a large crow. Also, he's able to form various animal combinations. This change is quite bloody-for example if he wanted the talons of a hawk, they would tear out of his legs, and the flesh would fall off to dissolve on the ground. Going back to human feet, his toes would push through and the claws would be shucked off like socks. Turning into, say, a swarm of rats would cause his skin to deflate like a gory balloon as a tide of rodents came out. He doesn’t often like to change to groups, as it can be confusing to process the information. He also has a heightened resistance to pain and injury as well as sharper senses (which can be overwhelming if he’s surprised, though this will also piss him off). He also occasionally gets a clouded and confusing vision of the future, and therefore “knows” who will have an impact on her life and that she’s been robbed of a great life by having him in it. The fact that he’s murdered nine of those people in messy and horrific ways over the years to “guide her” to the correct path hasn’t impacted this self-impression.

Trivia: Abigail also gets random memories, some quite inhuman. Whether these are connected to the makers of the amulet or something else, she’s not sure. Something in her refuses to enter the Ship when she’s in Cobblestone form, and so far, she hasn’t pushed the issue. She's also not totally sure if she shifts into the Cobblestone form or if there's some kind of really fast bodyswitch.

  • Name: Kyle Sinclair
  • Superhero Name: Night Chaser IV
  • Age: 19
  • Appearance: Civilian: Look into the darkest night.
    • As a superhero, he wears black armor with chains wrapped around.
  • Personality: Kyle generally is a pretty quiet guy, and tries to keep to himself and not make himself the center of attention... Even if he can't seem to keep himself from saying the wrong thing or being too impulsive for his own good. While not a complete idiot, he tends to either act on a whim and can get too blunt with his words. Even then, he can't seem to shake off his awkwardness when around other people, and there are things he can't get off his chest. When not working, he can often be found sleeping somewhere.
  • Backstory: Part of the Sinclair clan, a family marked by a curse from times forgotten, and that has produced good and evil over the years. The Night Chasers are one of the more notorious of them and Kyle is the newest one to take the name. While he initially didn't believe himself to be the one to take the mantle, as he had his own trouble getting a proper handle on all his powers, until an incident involving an old enemy, Kyle saw his father get hurt and himself jump into a dangerous fight they barely got out with their lives forced him to take the responsibility of becoming the next Night Chaser, even if the training was rough both within and out of the family. Now, he just needs to show the kind of hero he wants to be. Easier said than done.
  • Legacy: The third Night Chaser, aka, Kyle's father, Henry Sinclair. More of a locally known hero, and a stern man who isn't the most expressive, although he and his son manage to understand each other. Only recently left the mantle after particularly bad injuries.
  • Powers and Abilities: The Wolf Within: A death curse placed in what became the Sinclair bloodline and controlled by a friend's sacrifice, it allows Kyle to become either a big wolf man or a huge black wolf, increasing his strength, speed, senses... While initially, it carried a loss of control, the curse was beaten, and while wilder, the man is in control. Although silver can touch his bare skin. He can use the shift between the beast and human forms to recover somewhat from injuries, although the process of such can get horribly painful and some things remain.
    • Darkforce: A residue of the curse, a black energy surrounds him, occasionally pulsing and capable of blasting people away. It also makes magic go haywire when coming in contact with him if it isn't taken into account.
    • Personally, he is fairly well read in magic, can fight unarmed and can move around with ease no matter where.
  • Gear: The Armor of Restraint: An enchanted armor made to contain the Wolf in case of a loss of control, it was repurposed as a superhero suit. It's surprisingly light and adjusts to the size and shape of the wearer. It also comes with reinforced, extending chains, which serve as a weapon and a way to subdue enemies. It's generally carried as a necklace until needed.
  • Nemesis: Alfonso Rosso, the Bloody Don. A vampire mob boss, with the strength, hypnosis ability and minions that comes with both. Able to shift into bats and mist, he has had a long feud with the Night Chaser. While his past has been hidden, he had a final challenge with Henry by attacking the the young Kyle. When Henry got badly hurt, Kyle attacked the Don in a rage, causing another grudge to form as both wolves attacked him fiercely. While he attempts to act cultured and to see his operations as a business, he has proven to be a ruthless criminal who sinks as low as he needs to to get what he wants and has a long list of perceived slights to avenge.

  • Name: Giorgia Lanna
  • Superhero Name: Revolver Revenant IVnote
  • Age: Died at 20, and has been stuck looking that age ever since.
  • Appearance:
    • Already pale and scrawny when alive, Giorgia as Revolver Revenant is even more so. Her skin is a necrotic grey, her once golden-blond hair bleached white. Her eyes are almost pure white, with no irises and only the vague grey outline of pupils.
    • The core of Giorgia's outfit, and the closest thing she has to a "hero costume", is the gunmetal grey two-nozzle gas mask covering her entire face up to her eyes. The gas filters are mostly just aesthetic, since her undead status makes Giorgia highly resistant to toxins; the mask's main purpose is to conceal the severe facial injuries she sustained when she died.
    • Giorgia's ensemble is overall more practical than eye-catching. She rejects the trappings of flashy superhero outfits, instead favouring simple jeans and shirts with a heavy dark green combat jacket worn over the top, all of their bearing about as much wear and tear as their owner does. She's fully aware that refusing to adopt a consistent and recognisable look is practically heresy for one tenuously allied with the Saint Foundation, but she doesn't care. She's not here to be a comic book hero, she's here to achieve a goal.
    • If you want a visual ref, this is pretty close, right down to the eerily pale eyes. The military medals are the only major inaccuracy.
  • Personality: No Revolver Revenant has had a cuddly reputation - it comes with being a vengeance-driven Revenant Zombie - and Giorgia Lanna is no exception. She was withdrawn even before her death and rebirth, and the circumstances leading to her becoming Revolver Revenant IV turned her downright antisocial. These days, she is a solitary creature who rarely has interactions with other people that don't directly benefit her quest for revenge.
    • Giorgia isn't particularly talkative, but this isn't to say she doesn't have thoughts on the people around her. Far from it - she passes harsh judgement on everyone she encounters as she observes them from a distance, her opinions curdled by severe trust issues and a general deeply cynical attitude. Most are unaware of how unpleasant her view of them is, of course, because even when she can be bothered to hang around others for any length of time her quiet demeanour, mask and blank eyes make her extremely difficult to read.
    • Despite the grim attitude, Giorgia isn't completely devoid of heroic qualities. She is distant, not cruel; indeed, she'll step in to aid those who are being exploited or abused in front of her, well aware most crooks aren't going to risk earning the wrath of the immensely creepy zombie with a big-ass gun. Her problem boils down to being so hyper-focused on the central Revolver Revenant goal of rivalling and ultimately taking down Oscuro that she's left herself no time for anything else, but in and of itself, the lengths of her devotion to that cause prove she has the willpower and determination to be a true superhero. As the more classical heroes of Capetown inevitably cross paths with her, Giorgia may well come out of her shell a little and re-learn how to live, maybe even become an ally to them in causes beyond the one she was revived for... or she might end up compelled to shrink ever further inwards. Only time will tell.
  • Backstory: Giorgia would be the first to dismissively say that, in life, she was nobody. Born in a small Sicilian town, her single mother - who conceived her by accident and claimed ignorance to the identity of her father - was ostensibly unemployed, but made enough money to live doing regular odd jobs for strange men in suits. Initially she pretended they were simple "grown-up friends", but even as a small child, Giorgia figured it out soon enough. By the time Giorgia was in her teens, Mamma was no longer bothering to hide her career choices; she admitted outright to her daughter that she was a contraband runner for a criminal organisation. Not a full member, just a lowly semi-associate, but it paid her bills... and when other people on the wrong side of the law heard her brag that she had connections to the notorious Oscuro, those with sense took the opportunity to leave her alone. That little detail alone taught Giorgia something she'd put to good use later as Revolver Revenant - a fearsome reputation alone can get you more than you'd think.
    • By the time she was a teenager, Giorgia, too, was supporting the family with drudge work for Oscuro's gang. It was common for the gang to use youths for any minor tasks the soldati proper felt were beneath them - hardly honourable, but if Oscuro can be given credit for one thing, it's refusing to pretend organised crime is an honourable profession. She ended up forming a friendship with the other young underlings, even if most of them were far rowdier and more extroverted. Becoming a "made" gangster wasn't for her, but so long as she made no effort to climb the ranks, maybe this wouldn't be too hard of a life...
    • Then came the fateful day. Giorgia doesn't know what, exactly, one of the friends she'd scuttled around with for years did. Some kind of attempt to become an informant for a rival, or for the superhero community. What mattered was that Oscuro was not one to tolerate hints of disloyalty in his ranks - and he considered his greenhorn contraband runners disposable enough not to hesitate calling a hit on the whole lot of them. It wasn't even a spectacular massacre; the order was, just shoot them all while they sleep and leave the bodies on display as a warning.
    • A few days later, one of the bodies suddenly went missing.
    • Giorgia couldn't tell you why she, of all the countless people Oscuro lethally wronged, was the one who came back as the fourth Revolver Revenant. All she knows is, one, he killed all her friends basically on a whim, and two, her newfound access to the Revolver Revenant mind-hive meant she also personally felt all of the ire the previous three had for him. Devoting her afterlife to seeking revenge, as her predecessors had, was the only logical course of action.
  • Legacy:
    • The first Revolver Revenant was Paolo Terlizzi, Oscuro's best friend in the days when he was plain old Camillo Fosca. Paolo had tried in vain to convince Camillo to quit his budding life of crime; he received a bullet in the brain for his trouble. He himself never knew - and, since his consciousness still exists within Giorgia, still doesn't know - exactly how or why he returned as an undead avenger, but he didn't have to be told to start using his newfound powers to wreak havoc on Oscuro's operations.
    • After he finally managed to figure out how to "re-kill" Paolo, Oscuro initially thought that would be the end of that. Not so. Three times now the pattern has held that, after the previous Revolver Revenant is put out of commission, a new one eventually rises. The gaps are years long, enough that Oscuro would invariably start to get comfortable in the assumption he'd dealt with his little zombie problem for good before it came shambling right back.
    • The sole common thread between the Revolver Revenants is that they were killed as a direct consequence of Oscuro's actions. Revolver Revenant II, Ricardo Rosato, was a repentant gangster who learned the hard way that Oscuro does not accept resignations. Revolver Revenant III, Jamie Loessler, was a New Jersey anti-corruption activist who got in the way of Oscuro's attempts to establish a powerbase across the Atlantic and paid the price. Every single one has waged a single-minded anti-Oscuro campaign, aiming to eventually get close enough to the Don himself to let him reap what he has sowed. Giorgia is the one who puts Oscuro out the most aside from Paolo, because where the other three were important in some way, she was an absolute nobody - and that suggests to him that, even if he kills her, any corpse anywhere in the world may become Revolver Revenant V.
    • III was the first Revolver Revenant to take up residence in Capetown and loosely affiliate with the Saint Foundation, due to her close proximity to it to begin with, and IV has crossed the ocean to follow suit. The Foundation does not necessarily trust the immensely creepy anti-heroic walking corpse, and Giorgia doesn't really trust them back. The association is one of practicality for her; Capetown, being so heavily associated with the Saint Foundation and its ample force of heroes, is one of the very few places in the world she could use as a stable base of operations without much fear of being jumped in the night by Oscuro's goons.
  • Powers and Abilities:
    • Undead Physiology: Giorgia's current state has certain built in advantages. She has vastly reduced physical needs compared to the living, does not age, and barely feels pain. Most relevant to her title of Revolver Revenant, it turns out that when the biological processes that subtly move your body have ceased and your muscles have undergone partial rigor mortis, you have an absurdly steady hand.
    • Spirit Calling: Giorgia can communicate with and summon the spirits of the dead. The strength of this power is dependant on distance - the closer she is to where a person died, the clearer she can hear their ghostly voice and the more readily she can call forth their apparition. When she's practically right on top of a person's dying location, she can manifest their soul strongly enough to effectively bombard her enemies with raw ectoplasm - not inherently dangerous, but certainly very spooky, very gross and a good distraction overall. Of course, some departed souls are more open to having their eternal slumber disturbed than others.
    • Necromancy: Giorgia's control of the dead extends to their physical remains. She can animate corpses in her vicinity, though not as their original selves - the soul is long gone. They're essentially puppets bound to her will, following her every order, and once she stops focusing on animating them they will return to an inert state. Giorgia's corpse servants possess no superhuman abilities per se, but being mindless does mean they can't feel pain, or fear, or anything else that would mentally impede them.
    • Revenant Legacy: Giorgia has a particularly direct connection to the souls of the previous three Revolver Revenants. The consciousnesses of Paolo Terlizzi, Ricardo Rosato and Jamie Loessler all exist within her head, making Revolver Revenant a kind of system with the current holder of the title as frontrunner. They generally keep to the back of her mind, but sometimes they'll briefly take over to make a strongly-held opinion clear, and they can become the primary consciousness temporarily if Giorgia allows them. While a previous RR is in control of Giorgia's body, a distinct glow appears in her eyes and their voice is layered over her own. This arrangement also means Giorgia has the complete memories of each prior Revolver Revenant, giving her a wealth of knowledge she wouldn't otherwise have.
  • Gear: Aside from the mask, which is mostly cosmetic, Giorgia's preferred equipment is guns. Lots and lots of guns. She is Revolver Revenant, after all. This includes both standards firearms and any less conventional weapon in the shape of a gun. Basically, if it shoots things, she'll use it. Giorgia's arsenal is huge and ever-shifting, and she frequently discards old weapons out of fear they could be traced back to her.
  • Nemesis: Oscuro, real name Camillo Fosca. Somewhere between a supervillain and a Mafia don, with all the vicious qualities of both, this enigmatic crime lord has effectively ruled his native Sicily from the shadows for decades, with additional operations around the world.
    • Oscuro is surprisingly unassuming at first glance for one with his reputation. He is well over a hundred years old, yet looks no older than thirty, with classically Sicilian tanned, rugged features and a signature charismatic grin. He makes no effort to adhere to the well-groomed and honourable presentation of movie Dons; his attitude is casual, playful, almost fratboyish. But make no mistake, Oscuro is fiercely intelligent and cunning, and his superficial lightheartedness is a mask hiding an utterly ruthless monster who has never hesitated for a second to stomp on others for the sake of his own advancement. He's the kind of guy who has made many, many enemies, the Revolver Revenants among them.
    • Oscuro, as far as anyone can tell, cannot age. This is a man who has the face and sprightliness of a young upstart while being old enough to remember the Mussolini regime. How he cheated the passage of time this way is unknown and the subject of much fevered speculation, and some particularly paranoid folks question whether he's even still mortal; Revolver Revenant would personally bet that he is, and aims to prove as much. His more direct superpower is the ability to control darkness - not in a metaphorical sense, but the ability to manifest darkness as a physical, malleable force that bends to his every whim. He can coat rooms in pitch darkness in the blink of an eye, manifest shadowy tendrils and limbs that can attack and manipulate objects over great distances, and even fast-travel between shadowed patches in his territory. This extremely versatile and powerful ability has one critical weakness, which is that, the brighter his surroundings and the less natural shadows they provide, the more Oscuro will struggle to use it.
    • In sharp contrast to the traditional Mafia hiring practices of "only straight 100% Italian human men allowed", Oscuro's gang is Equal-Opportunity Evil to the core. Partly this was influenced by his past - Oscuro remembers and hates Mussolini enough to have disdain for anything resembling the Duce's stances. Partly it's a tacit acknowledgment that, as an undeniably metahuman being of some kind himself, Oscuro doesn't fit the classic mould. As a direct result of his hiring policy, many of Oscuro's caporegime have impressive supervillainous powers and reputations in their own right, and are obstacles to the Revolver Revenant's quest just as imposing as the Don himself.
  • Trivia:
    • Giorgia only spoke Italian in life. In undeath, she abruptly acquired fluency in English and Spanish by way of having access to Jamie/Revolver Revenant III's knowledge of those languages, but still speaks them with a noticeable Italian accent unless Jamie is controlling her body.
    • As a result of damage sustained to her mouth as she died, Giorgia's speech is slightly slurred and lisping, resembling that of someone with a cleft palate.
    • Distinct version of this particular character no. 3! Let's hope she isn't cursed to render every RP she joins as dead as she is.

  • Name: Akiyama Kozakura (Japanese order)
  • Superhero Name: Override Crimson/Sakura Spark II
  • Age: 24
  • Appearance: Is a heroine by another name still as sweet?
    • As Override Crimson, Kozakura wears a costume close to sentai or tokusatsu styling, adorned in full body armor covering her from head to toe with lines of red illuminating the various plate pieces which compose it. Her helmet completely covers her face with a black visor over her eyes and a silver face plate hiding her mouth. The Override Armor is easy to move in despite its armored appearance, and is armed with bright red gauntlets.
  • Personality: Having slipped into heroism at far too young an age to grasp the responsibility and consequences, Kozakura has come out the other end cynical and world weary. She freely admits that her time as a magical girl, which she likens more to being a child soldier, has stunted her ability to form meaningful human connections, and she vastly prefers to be in her own company rather than the company of others. However, despite being beaten down by her experience, Kozakura fundamentally wants to make a positive impact on the world... even if she has to burn herself out to do so.
  • Backstory: From the young age of 12, just starting middle school, Kozakura was recruited to be a magical girl by what could best be described as a fairy rabbit, borne from the heart of the planet to seek pure of heart warriors to defend the world from alien threats. She threw herself into the role wholeheartedly, fighting against an invasion force known as The Seats of Emotion under the name Sakura Spark. Kozakura started as an earnest and enthusiastic magical girl but the war against the Seats of Emotion seemed never ending, a constant tide of enemies born from the repressed and rejected thoughts and emotions of the collective human subconscious. The conflict chipped away at Kozakura's personal life and her optimism, consuming her teen years in battle after bloody battle with casualties to those closest to her. Things finally came to a head when she confronted the Emotion leading the attack on her city, the Apostle of Abandonment. Quickly outmatched, the Apostle nearly killed Kozakura with its magic - just before Urisa, her guide and mascot, shielded her from the shot. In grief Kozakura pushed her own magical powers far beyond their limits, shattering her transformation staff as it surged with her fury, clashing against Abandon's spellcraft and mortally wounding her mortal enemy.
    • However, Kozakura too was caught in the blast, the Apostle's fell magic consuming her body with an unnatural flame. Collapsing, Kozakura thought herself dead and lost consciousness - before waking in a medical facility far more advanced than the norm. A member of the transforming hero team the Overriders, Override Red, had found her and brought her to their heroes' sanctuary to help heal her supernatural injuries. After months of recovery, Kozakura was ready to return to the fight, no matter how much the Overriders discouraged her. However, she had lost the means to become a magical girl in her final battle and pushed for Red and the others to train her. Reluctantly they agreed, knowing that the anger in her eyes would have her returning to fight crime even without support. However, though she learned much from the Overriders, even working to adapt their Override Wrists to better work with her magically reformatted body, she could never grow close enough to the group as a whole to cohesively join their team.
    • Still training with them, Kozakura caught news of the appearance of lesser Emotions terrorizing parts of Capetown. Concerned, she kept reading article after article until she caught sight of a familiar face - her own, standing amongst the crowd, how she would have looked if the fires didn't scar her body and the trauma didn't grey her hair. Her burns ached as though telling her there was only one possibility: Abandon was still alive, wearing her face. Leaving just a note for the Overriders to find in the morning, Kozakura stole away into the night, setting her sights for their new battleground...
  • Legacy: Kozakura follows two different legacies, that of her own as a veteran magical girl of nearly 12 years and that of a junior trainee of the Overriders. The Overriders themselves are a costumed hero team that have been in operation for decades, with different teams of many different colors all over the world. Think Power Rangers.
  • Powers and Abilities:
    • Reformatted Body: Kozakura's body has been altered to better generate and channel magic, in essence becoming half-physical half-mana. This gives her the potential to be an outstanding magical girl but without her transformation staff and no training in the magical arts, she can't access this pool of power without her Override Wrist. She is, however, more durable, lighter on her feet, and quicker to react than a normal human due to this alteration.
    • Threshold: Kozakura has a high pain threshold, far higher than many even career superheroes, due the nature of her new transformation, as well having a strong mental fortitude. While she isn't completely immune to illusions, it is difficult to sway or fool her with mind control and emotional manipulation.
    • Empath (Trauma): Her scars still burn with Abandon's magic, but she's learned to use it to read the emotional state of those around her, even letting her pick up on lies to a certain degree. Unfortunately, it reacts strongest to negative emotions, giving her a phantom pain all too reminiscent of her final battle if the negative emotions in question are particularly powerful - this is a contributing factor to her more antisocial behavior.
  • Gear:
    • Override Wrist (Custom): With the technical knowledge of the Overriders, Kozakura was able to modify their transformation watches to partially access her old power, though with use more fitting to her new armor. Activating it is akin to flipping a switch in her body, all her nerves flaring in a single instant as the Override Wrist forcibly accesses her mana pool. She's kept the agony of her transformation a secret from the Overriders as they never would have trained her if they knew, but Kozakura considers it a blessing in disguise - if she can handle the torture of transformation, anything her enemies do seem so much less.
    • Override Armor (Custom): The battle armor her Override Wrist grants her. With her, her abilities go from merely athletic to superhuman, providing her steel-breaking strength, sound-breaking speed, and metaphor-breaking endurance. Channeling her mana allows her to add exponentially more strength to her attacks, making her punches literally explosive - or she can focus it into one or several beams to either chip away at enemies or burn a hole through a single spot, lob an orb of energy which she can remotely detonate, or form energy blades of barriers. She can also fly for brief periods, though extended flight is too draining on her energy to be sustainable.
  • Nemesis: Seat of Emotion - Apostle of Abandonment, otherwise known as Abandon for short. The Emotions are born from the layer of reality consisting of the collective human unconscious, with seeds planted within that texture to absorb and solidify those thoughts and feelings into living form. Most Emotions are creatures of instinct and destruction, thoughtlessly spreading misery in order to further proliferate their kind. The Apostles are different though - born from complex emotions which can trigger a cascade of other, more pure emotions, they feel the same drive to spread chaos but develop their own personalities, agendas, etc. Abandon was, like their name implies, born from a collective of emotion related to feelings of abandonment. Betrayal, despair, emptiness, and rage all made up the sum of their being. However, now mixed within her new existence are emotions of affection, nostalgia, love - the positive emotions which normally enhances magical girls' abilities were seared into Abandon's soul just like the negative emotions were seared into Kozakura. A newfound knowledge of the warmth whose absence defines the forms of abandonment. The consequences of this remain to be seen...
  • Trivia: Estranged from her mother after the death of her father. Still keeps in touch with her older sister via email and messaging.
