Character pages are a large chunk of the wiki, but they're often filled with problems that don't get resolved. These problems include:
- Zero Context Examples
- Indentation problems, including bulleting tropes under supertropes or tropeslashing
- Spoiler tag misuse
- A lack of alphabetization
- Empty character folders
- Plagiarized character descriptions
- Misused tropes, or tropes that don't belong on character pages
- Broken or incorrect formatting
- Subjective / Trivia trope mentions
Per How to Create a Character Page, character pages should only include tropes that describe the characters. These tropes should fall under Characterization Tropes or one of its related indexes, Unless they're recurring character traits (distinctive things that the character does repeatedly). If you're unsure what counts as a character trope, you can ask about that at Are These Character Tropes.
All characters must have at least one contextualized trope for their section or folder to be visible. If you find a character that has no contextualized tropes present, comment out the entire section and add this tag:
Other relevant threads:
- Problems with pre-existing images on Characters page need to go via Image Pickin'. Low quality images can usually be upgraded without discussion, but don't change or delete images without Image Pickin' approval.
- Character-Specific Pages have their own separate cleanup thread
- Self-demonstrating character pages also have their own thread.
- Inanimate objects and locations on character pages have their own cleanup thread
- Character pages for Reality Show contestants are on-topic here, but there's also a dedicated Reality Show cleanup thread which deals with the No Real Life Examples, Please! grey areas these shows create, and may sometimes be a better place to discuss them.

I want to run this by people before I proceed: can I send Survivor Non Player Characters to the cut list?
- Most of the people here have maybe appeared once in the show's twenty-plus-year run.
- Most folders don't have the requisite three tropes.
- Being a reality show, Survivor features real-life people. It doesn't sit right with me to label real people "Non-Player Characters" as if they were extras in a video game.
But where else would you put Mark the Chicken? /s
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool.So I've been working on the Bleach Characters page to bring it more in line with the new guidelines while also re-organising the pages to handle the byte counts.
The Sternritter pages are the biggest issue since their collective byte counts exceed 300k bytes.
I've created some sandboxes to sort out the few subfactions within their organisation, but I want to run them by everyone else since they're pretty arbitrary.
- Bleach Sternritter (revised) - 176,337 bytes
- Bleach Bambietta And Her Comrades - 97,679 bytes
- Bleach Schutzstaffel - 72,058 bytes

Survivor NPCs has now been sent to the Cut List.
This was removed from Future Goku's folder in Characters.Dragon Ball Future Trunks Timeline
- Crutch Character: He is an example of that crutch being removed: Everyone, including his son, are all killed by the androids, which left a huge disadvantage for the people of Earth. When main Goku was told he died earlier before the androids' arrival, that's when he decides to make preparations for everyone in the event he kicks it.
I feel like there’s a non-videogame version of this trope…
"I just need one of you to come here to give your life to the sun god. It will be for the monkey city's glory."For Lost, the page is subdivided for the show's various factions, but then those factions are divided into two pages each for main characters and recurring characters. Is that necessary? It seems like an arbitrary way to divide the page and it's making some pages too short. For instance, the two pages for the Freighter are only 36,703 bytes combined.
Some VG tropes have non-VG examples. So, if we don't find a different trope for that, we could see if it can still fit with the context.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportI've come across some orphaned character pages for Genshin Impact. They don't appear in the character index on top of the pages, so the characters might have been moved to subpages of Nations. Could anyone help to check if these are safe to cut?
Characters.Planet Dolan has tons of blank folders (save for images), and some with only one or two bare-minimum tropes. I think it’s worth cutting most of these, especially since a lot of the characters haven’t been part of the series for years at this point.
Discombobulate.Characters.Mega Man Archie Comics is another page with too many subpages.
- Characters.Mega Man Archie Comics Main Characters: 21k
- Characters.Mega Man Archie Comics Supporting Characters: 26k
- Characters.Mega Man Archie Comics Dr Lights Robot Masters: 17k
- Characters.Mega Man Archie Comics Major Antagonists: 38k
- Characters.Mega Man Archie Comics Dr Wilys Robot Masters: 42k
- Characters.Mega Man Archie Comics Others: 9k
- Characters.Mega Man Archie Comics Mega Man X Characters: 10k
Even if they're merged, it won't exceed 180k. This comic is currently finished so there's little chancer it will become any longer. Will do both ZTC (which they have plenty of) and subpage cleanup.
Just posting to note that some guidance on Character-Specific Pages has now been added to Administrivia's How to Create a Character Page. Until now, there was no mention of CSPs on that page.
This doesn't replicate the dedicated CSP Administrivia page - it's just an overview and a link for more information.
If there's any feedback and a wish to change it, please post to the Outdated Administrivia thread.
Characters/Silverwing is woefully in need of expansion and revamping.
It may make more sense to merge it with the main page in this state

TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupBoth Characters.Tokyo Xanadu Xanadu Research Club and Characters.Tokyo Xanadu Morimiya Academy (Shiori, Ryouta and Jun) all have image sections for their Summer uniform and casual clothes. This strikes me as unnecessary since they serve no true narrative purpose. This unlike Characters.Persona 5 The Phantom Thieves Of Hearts, where the alternative clothes are plot relevant. Any other thoughts?
She/Her | Currently cleaning Char CloneAgreed, they're unnecessary if they have no plot purpose.
Characters.Pokemon Horizons The Series has subpages like this.
- Characters.Pokemon Horizons The Series Lead Characters: 64k
- Characters.Pokemon Horizons The Series Pokemon: 41k
- Characters.Pokemon Horizons The Series Antagonists: 45k
- Characters.Pokemon Horizons The Series Supporting Cast: 29k
The indexes bloat the character number, so when merged this should be around 170k characters, which is far below the recommended 250k limit. The anime series is far from over, but they seem to be split too soon. So how about merging them for now?
Agree that they're unnecessary, but we'll need an Image Pickin' thread to remove them.
Updated the pinned post to clarify the Image Pickin' rules.
I think it’s weird to separate characters from their Pokemon, in Horizons when we’ve not done that before. I think Characters should be grouped with their pokemon
Speaking of which, Pokemon: I Choose You! - Ash Ketchum only has 19,027 bytes. The I Choose You, Power of Us and Secrets of the Jungle movies also failed to get more than 20,000 bytes apiece.
Teen Titans (2003): Core Team Is just an index page with only 10,000-ish bytes. It can be safely merged back with Teen Titans (2003): Teen Titans.
I'd merge the folders if I get an okay on merging the subpages.
Character specific page should be merged back to 1st movie. Can't say the same about each movie's character pages as they're all separate works with mutually exclusive characters. They're a reboot continuity, so they also should not be merged into the TV series. I think the pages that share the name with their works should stay.
Agreed on that.
Before committing to that, the character-specific pages should be looked at to see if any should be merged back into the team page according to the updated rules.
Extremis Ultimis Middle East has Civil War and Zerg Rush against nations/factions, but its only trope against a listed character is POW Camp for Abu Osama al-Muhajer, the Historical Domain Character version of the real life Islamic State leader. And I'm not convinced that's a valid character trope.
So, theoretically, we could save the character and the page by adding Historical Domain Character — but if that's the only character trope for the whole page, is it really worth keeping?

Null-edited Fate/Samurai Remnant: Servants and it looks fine now.
A reminder that there's been an update to how the editor behaves here.
