Yes, it is that time of the year again!

Let us all rejoice, for Lord Gaben hath seen fit to bless us with a bountiful harvest indeed.

Duration is from June 21st to July 5th. Theme is aliens, and playing the small game Valve has appended to their storefront makes you eligible to win free games.

Make any personal recommendations below. Mine is Hollow Knight, excellent metroidvania currently discounted by 34%.

Praise be!

Steam is really slow, and it won't let me add funds to cover the costs of a game I wish to purchase. Must be the traffic.

I am here to poop on this party, like some kind of pooper-on-parties.

Dammit Valve, police your fucking video game store so you aren't selling 70% bullshit. You can do better you cheap lazy fucks, do so.

Anyway, despite my bitching, I'm looking forward to see if anything I'm interested in is on sale. I just bought the Darkest Dungeon expansion and Hunt: Showdown, maybe I'll get Salt and Sanctuary or something too. Don't intend to go crazy this year.

Holy shit, House of the Dying Sun is like five bucks. Anyone who is even remotely interested in space combat games, do yourself a favor and get this now!

Marauder Interactive's debut release and they knocked it out of the park! House of the Dying Sun has the tightest gameplay and best-feeling flight model I've ever played in a space game, bar none. The only thing even remotely similar to a flaw that I could point out is that there simply isn't enough of it!

Literally no Steam users.

Oh but literally Valve, I guess.

[up][up]Seconding Gault, House of the Dying Sun is WAAAY better than it has any right to be. Goddamn shame the creator (just a single dude by his lonesome, mind you) never managed to implement a multiplayer mode or the original randomly-generated campaign he intended, that would've extended the game's life far beyond what it has been.

Oh goddammit, Valve. It's the end of the month! I'm broke! Partially because GOG had their sale in the beginning of the month, but also because I'm always broke at the end of the month anyways.

Although now that I look at it, most of the stuff on my wishlist is either still too pricey (pricy? both look wrong to me...), or has already been acquired through GOG (I need to clean my wishlist apparently).

...that site spoils me too much.

I'm running into several problems:

  • A. The games I want aren't going for sale
  • B. The games I want aren't being given a steep enough discount (I'm looking at you, GTAV)
  • C. I've already bought everything I want
  • D. My Steam library backlog is already ridiculously huge as is

Already bought Armed to the Gears and MGSV: Definitive Edition. Funny thing, I already 100% completed MGSV on the PS 4 a few years back, but for some reason I have this odd itch to try out the PC version and see what little difference in performance will there be. You know, instead of using that money to try out a brand new game like SUPERHOT, Ori and the Blind Forest, ECHO, X-Com 2, Tyranny...

Yeah, great use of your money there, Ricko.

The games I want aren't being given a steep enough discount (I'm looking at you, GTAV)

I understand you so much right now.

X-Com 2, Tyranny...

I absolutely recommend those two. One is my second-favorite game, and the other is one of the best RP Gs I've ever played.

"Here we go again... Again."

The games I want aren't being given a steep enough discount (I'm looking at you, GTAV)

Add another one here. (Sort of...)

Goddamnit, Sega... Six f**king years of Total War: Rome II on Steam and only once did I see its DLC go at 75% off—way back in 2016 when I first bought the damn game. Is it so hard to do it again with the older (read: not Desert Kingdoms or Empire Divided) DLC? I mean, you're already raking in money from the Total War: Warhammer series, Thrones of Britannia and pre-orders for TW: Three Kingdoms.

On the bright side, I do appreciate giving a 75% discount to Total War: Shogun 2 and (most of) its DLC. Good on ya.

Meanwhile, Star Wars: Empire at War Gold Edition hovering at 60% off... Though AFAIK, most Star Wars games went as low as 66% off during the annual Star Wars Sale. That being said, I feel like throwing money Petroglyph's way after EA's Command and Conquer: Rivals bullshit at E3. (BTW, if I were to buy Tiberium Wars and Kane's Wrath on Steam, does EA only get a portion of the profit, or do they get all of the profit? I'm hoping Steam gets a healthy cut of that and EA gets a little less... evil grin )

I'll probably wait a while to see if discounts become a bit steeper or if there are other games that I might like that will go on sale. (Not to mention that first-day rush...)

[up]I know nostalgia is a big reasoning for you wanting to give Petroglyph some of your cash, but the truth is they haven't released a decent RTS since Grey Goo. 8-Bit Armies is a joke of an RTS with so, sooo many problems and gameplay even more basic than the original C&C 95. And while Forged Battalion might turn into something special over time, it currently needs much more depth and polish.

And as for C&C3 and Kane's Wrath... I'm not sure. Though I do know that Steam usually negotiates unique contracts with larger entities like EA, Disney, Activision etc in which those companies keep a larger profit than usual from each sale, but beyond that I'm in the dark.

In the meantime, if you want a decent (and free!) RTS that can run on almost any engine, try out Zero-K. It's on Steam, has a small but active multiplayer community, and even a campaign to go along with it.

[up] x2: It's a shame, actually. Blizzard—for all its faults and association with Activision—managed to end their StarCraft series on a high note. Meanwhile, Relic effed up with Dawn of War III and then threw it to the curb. Which just leaves Petroglyph as one of the few holdouts (if not the only holdout) among old-school RTS game developers.

Even at this Early Access stage, Forged Battalion already looks leagues better than that poor excuse/decrepit zombie of a C&C game at E3. If there's still former Westwood developers still at Petroglyph, it should sicken them to the core to see what EA did to the franchise and give them the resolve to give the RTS genre a much-needed shot in the arm.

And I haven't had the chance to play as the Zann Consortium all those years ago, which is another reason for wanting to buy the Empire at War Gold Pack. I wouldn't mind a "refresher" campaign with the Empire and Rebels, though. Not to mention wanting to play mods where I get to play with the First Order or the Clone Wars-era Republic.

However, I'll have to put that on hold after experiencing some problems starting up Company of Heroes 2. I already checked the integrity of the game files and it turns out I have 23.6 Gigabytes worth of files I'll have to re-download... (Bozhe moi...)

The mod support for the Empire at War Gold Pack is absolutely insane, full multiplayer or singleplayer campaigns, full game conversions, you name it.

PLEASE do so. The Zann Consortium can be painful to play against. All the AI does is spam Defilers with their bomb sabotage ability, repeatedly re-corrupts planets, sometimes even moments after you just removed the corruption, and worst of all make the Death Star II impossible to use due to IG-88 having the ability to instantly destroy it with utterly no warning. Oh, and the game cheats in that it can infinitely spawn starships on any planet in which you lack surveillance on - even planets lacking the proper space stations to build cruisers. Get ready for tons of Victory-class Star Destroyers/Nebulon-B frigates/Vengeance cruisers to endlessly spawn this way.

[up]EDIT: Oh, and seconding this. Arguably the whole reason why Empire at War was updated to have online play on the Steam client was because of how huge the modding community is, and the realization that it's currently the only half-decent Star Wars RTS title on the market after all these years.

Grabbed Valkyria Chronicles and Stardew Valley.

[up]Forces of Corruption is amazing for how utterly unbalanced it is. Hell, the entire Consortium thing was one of the dumbest plotlines in all of Legends (and yes, I stand by that assertion).

(*sighs*) The 2018 Steam Summer Sale ends tomorrow, but I'm still on the fence about buying Star Wars: Empire at War Gold Edition at 60% off, and I've yet to find an alternative game that I'll actually like being sold at a 75% discount (including the DL-effing-C).

Perhaps I could just buy the Rome II DLCs I want at 50% discount now, then get a refund on those DLCs if it goes on sale again at 75% discount and then buy them back again at 75% discount? Nah, I'm not addicted to such complexity (plus I'm not sure if it's even possible to do that).

I've also been thinking of making a post on the Rome II Steam discussion page calling SEGA/CA out for not putting older Rome II DLC at a 75% discount, but it's a good bet CA apologists and so-called "whales" will just swarm that post and downplay an otherwise legitimate grievance—especially if SEGA/CA themselves don't respond or just outright delete the post.

(*sighs*) If I still can't decide tomorrow, I guess it's back to waiting for the Halloween/Black Friday or Christmas sales. The lack of steep enough discounts on games/DLC I want already feels like an Epic Fail.

Hope you guys have fun with your new purchases, though.

[up]I thought it ended on July 5?

Speaking of the sale, I recently bought The Last Door. I had Kickstarted a game from the same developers and became curious about this game. So far I'm having quite a bit of fun.

[up] Woah, my bad.

Guess I'm feeling a bit depressed and disappointed to the point that I thought the Steam Summer Sale was going to end tomorrow. And there are times when it feels like every Steam Sale ends a bit early anyway.
