"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanWell, the sandbox has a lot of low-context examples, but that can be touched up. I don't see any inherent obstacle to allowing IUEO on Snuff Film as long as the examples themselves don't get too creepy. The description is also a tad long.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Seconded. I mean, I see no problem with listing, say, 8MM. If that means keeping the page locked, so be it.
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsMy position is that the examples should be limited to crimes filmed for distribution. Priginally, that meant commercial distribution, but I think now I would include non-commercial distribution, like Youtube and Facebook. Someone who's recorded their crimes for their own use isn't making a snuff film; they have to intend that others see it as well.
IUEO works for me.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Like I said in the previous discussion, a Snuff Film is a plot device like any other. I don't see why examples of this trope should be banned when it is, as far as I know, a rather common trope in horror and crime works.
I'm well aware that examples could potentially veer into creepy territory, so it might be necessary to closely monitor edits. And obviously, films which depict the real deaths of real people should be forbidden.
Would movies that have notably been thought of as "real" snuff films (but actually aren't) such as Cannibal Holocaust or Flower of Flesh and Blood deserve a mention?
Fake films would be a different trope.
But yeah agree on the Snuff Film as a plot device thing, CSI and others did it like that. Its basically a Stock Murder Trope.
As I said before, I don't see why we shouldn't be able to list fictional examples given how commonly it is depicted, so long as we do not list real examples. And even cleaned up, the page should remained locked to keep it that way.
^^ I've wondered about that type of situation as well. Cannibal Holocaust is a bit tricky since while any claims that it's a real snuff film are part of a Viral Marketing campaign, there are apparently real depictions of animal cruelty.
You've got roaming bands of armed, aggressive, tyrannical plumbers coming to your door, saying "Use our service, or else!"I have no objections to add In-Universe examples and tag the trope as IUEO.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportI have been searching things in the "Related", although I have only found one so far because the links I've found are not properly written and I am not an expert in those works.
When the number of examples becomes enough, it should be blocked. I suggest putting it in No Real Life Examples, Please! as well.
Clock is set.

Over in the Real Life section maintenance topic it was discussed whether to restore the example section of Snuff Film as an In-Universe Examples Only trope, with the following example section proposed: Sandbox.Snuff Film
I am also wondering if the current description gives undue weight to quasi-sexual motives; in crime shows the hunt for the people responsible aspect may be more important and an excessive focus on sexual aspects might invite creepy examples.
