In the Switch port, you move and attack exclusively through a convoluted combination of both waving the Joy Cons around and using the touch screen together.

On another, more serious note, I've been playing Dragon's Dogma the past few days (so far, I think it's a lot of fun, despite some frustrating aspects). What do you guys think are the chances of that game getting a rep in Infinite?

It was implemented in honour of the 30th Anniversary of Street Fighter 1.

Someone on Neo GAF pointed out something about the UMVC3 official website. The character page has its... well, characters missing, and the video and screens pages are apparently also missing (you get a "Page Not Found" message).

That game is getting rereleased on current-gen consoles, so Capcom could just be in the middle of updating things for that, but if I had to guess, I'd say they're actually gonna renovate the site into the official website for Infinite.

[up]That would make sense.

As absurd as it seems to modern audiences, the Avengers were distant second banana to the X-Men back in the late 90's. The Avengers were barely selling well enough to hold down one book (their spin-off got cancelled) while the X-Men were a massive franchise with spin-offs, a hit cartoon show, the best-selling single issue of all time and a big budget movie in the works. Someone like Thor just wasn't a priority, nor were most of the Avengers.

Pretty much. Heck, even in the 00's the X-Men were still bigger than the Avengers. It was only during the last years of that decade through the early 10's that the likes of Iron Man and Thor became iconic among a general audience thanks to the MCU.

That said, it's pretty interesting how priorities have massively shifted throughout the decades. It's only now that we can actually unironically say that someone like Wolverine isn't a priority for an Mv C game whereas if someone argued that there would ever be an Mv C game without Wolverine several years earlier, they would be considered insane.

[up] I don't think this'll be the MVC game that leaves out Wolverine, whether it's classic Logan-Wolverine or X-23-Wolverine. Neither of them was revealed at the start, sure, and they probably won't be revealed until we're closer to the release date (since the MCU characters are most likely getting front-and-center attention), but I doubt that Wolverine will be excluded entirely from the base roster.

[up]Personally, I'm not that optimistic on Wolverine's chance due to the way that Marvel has excluded X-Men characters from several games within the last few years. Though, yeah, it is really odd that Wolverine wasn't like one of the first Marvel characters revealed for this game.

But hey, I';d be happy to be proven wrong if Wolverine does make it in, whether in the base roster or as DLC.

Even by 3 you could tell that other properties were becoming more popular as we had only 7 X-Men characters.

[up] Compared to MVC 2 having around 20.

Marvel 2 was also every character previously made in the versus series, which includes titles like X-Men: Children of the Atom and X-Men vs. Street Fighter, thrown together. The only actual new characters were Cable, Bone Wolverine, and Marrow.

Who incidentally are all X-Men.

Dang.

Plus the X-Men were the most represented of the Marvel franchises with four returning characters (one of which, Sentinel, really had no damn right to be there) and three new ones.

By contrast there were only three Avengers (four with Ultimate), two Fantastic Four characters, no other Spider-family characters outside of Spidey himself, two Dr. Strange characters (only Dormammu before Ultimate), two Hulk characters, and some other randoms.

Three Doctor Strange characters; you forgot Shuma-Gorath.

Shuma-Gorath is only known because of this series.

I think a lot of people who play these games don't know that he is a Doctor Strange villain.

Also I think we can count Hulk and Spidey as Avengers too.

And this is not saying that X-Men was still dominant, it just had a lesser prescence in 3 where it was half the Marvel roster in 2

Even though 2 included anyone who was playable in the past Marvel vs Capcom entries plus some newcomers.

[up] Yeah, MVC3 was much better about having both X-Men and Street Fighter characters in the roster.

2 also had half of the Capcom side dominated by Street Fighters (though it was a bit better since they brought in more new characters like Felicia, Anakaris, Hayato, Tron Bonne, and the Original Generation characters). 3 only had four Street Fighters (Ryu, Chun-Li, Akuma, and C. Viper), and none were added come the Ultimate update.

Speaking of which, with Ryu already confirmed, Chun-Li considered a shoe-in based on track record (she hasn't missed a game since X-Men Vs. Street Fighter), and the general agreement of Rashid being the Street Fighter V rep, we're most likely getting at least 3 Street Fighter characters.

If we're getting a fourth Street Fighter character like in MVC3, who would you guys want? I personally wouldn't mind having a Street Fighter III rep (my personal choices being Dudley, Elena, Makoto, or Hugo), or Laura as a second V rep.

[up] I wouldn't say "always". He was absent in Clash of Super Heroes (unless you count "Quick-Change" Ryu).

He also wasn't in Tatsunoko vs Capcom. So Akuma isn't a shoo-in for Capcom crossovers.

That said, I wouldn't be remotely surprised if Akuma makes it in. I feel the same about Felicia.

He is.

He's just not an absolute given like Ryu and Chun Li.

I like having Akuma because he's more like a goofy supervillain - he fits better into the tone of the crossover, I feel.

Also, he's the first character I got really comfortable with in MVC 3, for some reason.

By contrast there were only three Avengers (four with Ultimate)

Vanilla had Cap, Iron Man, Hulk and Thor, and depending on how you count him, Spider-Man.

Spidey first became an Avenger around the same time Wolverine did. I'd be inclined not to count either of them.

Now, if Spider-Man were Miles in Infinite, then we could talk.

Ryota Niitsuma made a few more tweets regarding the development of UMVC3 and considered characters. Here's the translations courtesy of a NeoGAF user...

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=229739927&postcount=4973 http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=229740855&postcount=4977 http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=229741697&postcount=4980

Notable things from those tweets...

  • Over 150 female Capcom characters were considered (including Rouge, Tessa, Ingrid, a grown-up Anita, and Nina).
  • Fou-Lu was considered, but was cut because he would've been too much work, and also because of the lack of overseas popularity for Breath of Fire
  • Gill almost made the cut, but lost out to Nemesis
  • Gene was considered, but was passed over in favor of Frank West
  • An Onimusha rep was considered, but Saki was "a bit weak", and they ran into rights issues when they tried including the original series protagonist.
  • "Demetri: Comes up every time, but I think you guys know why Demetri can't be added (lol)"
