Netflix's Voltron: Legendary Defender

Sweet! That's my pairing for this show, too!

Lance isn't my favorite character, either, though I do enjoy his interactions with Hunk and Pidge and he can be amusing at times, though childish in his reactions, especially in regards to Keith.

Yeah, the humor is hit or miss but I still enjoy VLD. I am excited to see what season 3 has in store for the paladins (including Shiro of course.) I also hope to see some background in relation to Lotor and his father. Also just what the heck the half-galra prince has been up to this whole time.

Not feeling the Keith/Allura that hard yet, but I definitely don't hate it either. It's looking to be a slow-burn kind of relationship and so far it's off to a good start with a solid foundation to build off of. Already it feels far more genuine and less shoehorned than any of the romances in Legend of Korra, which is a good sign.

I think Lance is at his most enjoyable when he's around Pidge. She definitely seems to keep his worse tendencies in check so I hope they have those two interact more often. They make a fun duo.

...Am I the only person who ships Lance/Allura?

I dunno, I guess I just like Lance more. It's easier to sympathize with him, personally.

Right now the show seems to be treating him as an Abhorrent Admirer for Allura, so unless he goes through significant character development regarding his treatment of women, I doubt anything is ever going to come out of it. But I do foresee him learning An Aesop about appreciating women more as people and not as conquests for his own self-validation, and Allura would be a great starting point.

Lance is kind of the easily relatable everyman character, especially after his monologue in Season 2, which is incidentally probably why he's absurdly popular in the fandom who see him as a popular Possession Sue figure. The writers themselves are pretty fond of him and at least one of them said Lance was their favorite character, which is probably why. Right now I'm mixed on whether I like him more than Keith. For all his flaws I definitely think Lance is more interesting, whereas Keith has become pretty likeable but is otherwise extremely bland.

Honestly, I dig Lance and Pidge as a ship for some reason. There's just something amusing and entertaining about it. It's such a small ship so it's one of the more peaceful Voltron tags on tumblr. It also has some of the best AU Fanart I've seen from the fandom so far.

....I might ship Kallura out of spite. I feel like I shouldn't do that. Oh well.

TBH, though, I don't really have too many opinions on ships in this show?

I appreciate Lance's better moments:

1) His legitimate respect for Shiro;

2) His talk with Corran about how much he misses home;

3) Him then shielding Corran from the explosion;

4) waking up in time to take out Sendak;

5) The whole thing with the Yupper and his actually questioning his place on the team.

Sure, he can be a massive jack ass, but when he's good, he's good. He's definitely got a lot of character development in store.

Y'all motherfuckers wish you could be more like Lance. To be taken into outer space, told he has to save the universe or he'll die and still have the confidence to hit on girls. He's the guy we all wished we were in middle school but absolutely weren't.

Despite my hate for Lance I approve of any post that begins with y'all motherfuckers.

I don't want people to turn him into something he's not...on either end. So I'm not ignoring his dumb moments, or his better moments either.

Here is a interesting question, will this show get dubbed into Japanese?

From what I understand, it hasn't yet but it's been listed by Bandai as a property of potential interest.

Which if it means they show up in a Super Robot Wars game, I'm all for it.

Anyone know if subbing vs dubbing (specifically, of media from a different country and in a different language) is/was as divisive an issue in Japan as it used to be in America?

@Deaths Apprentice, there actually are quite a few who ship Kallura just out of spite so you wouldn't be alone there.

I don't know if it's out in Japan yet but I believe a Japanese dub or at least official subs have been confirmed already. And the show does have a healthy Japanese fanbase, though I don't know if they're necessarily aware of it being a Recursive Adaptation of GoLion. Of course, a lot of them are Yaoi Fangirls, but the Japanese side of the shipping fandom seems to be quite friendly and chill compared to the Western side.

It's probably because Go Lion was more of a Cult Classic in the country, instead of the cultural hit it was in the Western world. For the Japanese, Go Lion was a by the book Transforming Mecha show that really didn't stand out, but for us Westerners it was something really new.

Probably because so much has changed that it may as well be an original product, like Robotech. I know there was Edge of Tomorrow, which took a lot of liberties but still kept the main concepts and a lot of the names the same, but was released in Japan as its original name of All You Need Is Kill. Apparently the novel's name had some recognition power in Japan, though I don't know exactly how big.

Has anyone tried to do an AMV of putting the Go Lion theme song with the Legendary Defender opening?

I love love love the Golion Opening but it REALLY doesnt fit with VLD, the song is goodie ol' 80's Super Robot song and VLD is too modern for it.

There actually was a video where someone put the original song with the VLD opening. I personally think it didn't work with it well at all.

The visuals call for something with higher energy, like JAM Project or the like.

And I think that's the general problem with the OST for this show, that it's kind of muted and even the better songs are kind of low-energy.
