So, do we have the more general trope of "this thing exists to be knocked off/broken" as of currently? The one that encompass Fruit Cart, Rule of Pool and the other things?

Fruit Cart is basically the same trope, but Rule of Pool does not often involve a chase.

[up] I wasn't talking about chases, was I?

The thing that I asked could also cover Priceless Ming Vase and Ashes to Crashes.

We do not have the supertrope of "things that exist to get broken/be hit or run over/be damaged".. We are missing at least one other supertrope as well: Destruction of an item with some type of value (financial, sentimental, emotional, egotistical...)

So, is this TLP https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/discussion.php?id=u7eamfor8pqer06jzsut75tv ready? And do folks agree with cutting this page after that one is launched?

That draft looks suspiciously like Fruit Cart. I liked it more when the focus was Cardboard Boxes.

That's because Fruit Cart is suspiciously like "market stall as obstacle in a Chase Scene" and the draft is "obstacles in a Chase Scene", of which, boxes made of cardboard, wood, or metal, all count.

So what about keeping Cardboard Boxes as a sister trope to Fruit Cart under the supertrope Chase Scene Obstacle Course?

[up][up] No, because you lost the vote: Cardboard Boxes is getting cut.

Checking in, since it's been over half a year. How far are we into the proposed changes?

I just commented in the Chase Scene Obstacle Course draft. The comment before mine was made in September. Doomed by the Details was mentioned above, but its last reply was in May.

Just an end-of-year update. There seems to be little change in the two previously mentioned drafts. This effort seems to have gone stale sad

I might grab the crash course trope if my computer'll connect to the Internet anytime soon...

I am up for any repair solution for this trope which really allows the footchase examples to come to the forefront, either by splitting those out into a new trope or just emphasising them more in whatever the current trope ends up becoming. I think we can all cite several examples in cinema, TV and video games, and they create interesting and dramatic action. They can also say a lot about the characters: the chased for what they're willing to do to get distance between themselves and their chaser (and they may be willing to put animals and bystanders in severe danger); and the chaser for how they can overcome these obstacles and whether they feel forced to abandon the chase to help stymie the damage caused by the obstacles.

Nobody has required the obstacle course to be limited to a footrace. Cars, planes, and snowmobiles are all valid.

Touching base since it's been...what, almost 1.5 years? Are we at a point where we can close this?

I see the drafts are still in TLP.

Question about the TLP draft: What is to be done about tropes such as Fruit Cart and Sheet of Glass which seem functionally the same as Cardboard Boxes in terms of being just "common obstacle in a Chase Scene Obstacle Course"?

So, Let Me Get This Straight... The TLP draft Chase Scene Obstacle Course is going to replace Cardboard Boxes because the latter is a Zero-Context Example magnet. The draft is also a Super-Trope to the following tropes:

Are any of the above sub-tropes plagued enough by zero-context examples to also be cut and assimilated?

Bump; With most work being done at the TLP thread (which still needs to launch) all we really need to do is figure out the answer to [up].

I support merging all of those subtropes into Chase-Scene Obstacle Course. Dispute over whether or not to do so is the main thing keeping the draft from launching. Going back earlier in the thread, it seems like the bigger problem with Cardboard Boxes was the nonindicative name and chairsy examples.

Thrown in a hat in the draft. Hopefully we get a chance to launch it some time.

Do we have something in the works for the chase scene standard of having the pursued knock stuff over behind themselves as they flee to trip up their pursuers? Currently Cardboard Boxes is the closest thing we have due to the second paragraph.
