Hi everybody,

For an article I'm writing I'm looking for films that end with a shot of a character walking away from the camera. Think of Lecter walking away into the crowd at the end of 'Silence of the Lambs', or Steve in 'Mommy' running away from the guards.

Other films on my list so far are:

⁃ Quick and the dead ⁃ Legend ⁃ The Book of Eli ⁃ Een Goed Leven ⁃ Monsters vs Aliens ⁃ High Noon ⁃ The Elusive Avengers

I'd be really thankful for your ideas!

You can find some more examples under the film section of the Riding into the Sunset page.

The Third Man ends with one character walking away from another one, but she's walking towards the camera.

Modern Times by Charlie Chaplin ends with the Tramp and his girl companion walking down a road away from the camera.

Actually, Chaplin liked this ending. In The Circus he walks away from the camera at the end, after the circus leaves without him. And in The Tramp, the movie where he took his artistic leap forward from simple slapstick, he walks away from the camera at the end after finding out the girl has a boyfriend, but not before adopting a more cheerful step.

The trope page Riding into the Sunset lists a horror film called Slither in which the characters apparently walk away at the end.

The Book of Eli as well.

Maybe this should be a trope.

Do they have to be walking? I assume not as you list High Noon, and Gary Cooper's driving a wagon in that one. If they don't have to be walking, then Shane, with the famous "Come back, Shane!" ending, counts.

@frisco, you don't have to do multiple posts in such a short amount of time. Just edit the post to add stuff.

As for the matter, besides the tropes already indicated, I got nothing, at the moment.

If you want to start a trope (though I don't know if it would be reliable, since what you're asking seems to be dangerously close to People Sit On Chairs), it's best to go to the YKTTW and to read the rules to write and launch a trope.
