I think I tend to be more of an optimist. I've had a lot of bad things happen to me in my life, but I still have a tendency to look on the bright side of things when faced with a tough situation. I like being a glass half-full kinda guy; life's far happier that way.
"Can't make an omelette without breaking some children." -BurRight now I'm feeling really misanthropic. For example whenever something terrible happens, a lot of people want to shift the blame on others, even when it's really irrelevant. And then it perpetuates a nasty cycle...
Optimist about the world and other people, pessimist about anything pertaining to myself
Do you guys know what I was trying to say earlier? Whenever tragedy strikes, if there's anything even remotely political about it, it will divide people instead of uniting them. You can see all the stupid assholes trying to blame the wrong people for the mess. I conclude that this reflects the way that many people think in some way or another, even if it's not so obvious.
I'm a pessimist at heart. I often follow the logic pathway that it is better to expect the worst so when it comes you will be ready for when it comes, and if it doesn't come, well then it's a delightful surprise isn't.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."A pessimist about little things, and usually optimistic about the big picture.
"I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." -Thomas EdisonIt depends for me, but I don't understand why someone would be a misanthrope.
"Thanks for the lesson. But I don't need you to tell me who I am."I'm not a pessimist, I just dislike people.
The fact that only 140 characters are allowed here is honestly so disappointing to me.Optimist more so than ever. I had a couple positive changes recently, and it's put my mind in a better place. I have a highly idealistic view of the future, and I believe that a lot of positive changes will happen in society before I'm all that old. (But at the same time I'm not blind to any risks that something such as, say, transhumanism will bring.)
It varies, but I think when it comes to the big picture, I'm an optimist. Like, in general, things are getting better.
For short-term things, I tend to be pessimistic, especially if it's something involving me directly. Looking forward to something I've been planning for weeks? Yeah, there'll be a last-minute cancellation.
Weird in a Can (updated M-F)I can't stand misanthropes either.
"I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." -Thomas EdisonMostly optimist, with a couple of days of pessimism once in a while.
I'd say I'm definitely a pessimist. Based on history, things tend to work out negatively.
Is there a depressimist? Because if so that's me.
That’s the epitome of privilege right there, not considering armed nazis a threat to your life. - SilaswWhy the heck does he think that?
"Can't make an omelette without breaking some children." -BurI'd say I'm more on the optimist side. At least I consistently try to, it's definitely more fun.
Oh, and the whole "be a pessimist so you don't get too disappointed when things actually go bad"? Doesn't work. Actually, it makes things hurt more. Confirmation bias, self-fulfilling prophecies, all that.
Oh! But I do dislike with all my strength the "more intelligence -> less happiness" fallacy. I suppose I can't hate unhappy people for trying to rationalize it, but still... ugh.

@Demetrios: It happens once in a while. I had one day where I talked about why I felt that way on said given day in the Insecurities thread.
You have a point in that it's not my normal state of spirit. :)
Is he a fundamentalist? Or just a bitter, sour guy due to other stuff?

optimist because I'm not a depressed teenager fishing for attention.

Do you tend to look on the positives or negatives of life?
Forgive me if this sounds like a complaint thread, but I don't mean it to be as such. I don't mean for just one opinion to dominate. But I feel like expressing this opinion of mine that's been sitting on my chest.
I find myself to be pessimistic. This is probably the result of spending way too much time at home and browsing the Internet. But the more I read, I just find myself encountering quite a lot of ugliness...
