[up] As much as I love the sketchy, vaguely 60s-esque style of the new Mickey Mouse and Duck Tales, it's nice to see something a bit more traditional.

I agree, traditional animation still looks great.

.... well shoot. I overslept and missed today's premiere.

And with the activity from last week's, it could be I won't be able to watch it under Monday evening! Ugh.

I just started watching the newest episode Scrooge showing up to opening of Glomgold's wing of the Duckburg Natural History Museum just so he can steal free food so classically Scrooge, and it's great.

Found a way to watch!

Glomgold continues to crack me up. I don care who you are but giving him a bombastic voice only makes him funnier too. I laughed when he grabbed Dewey when he "needed someone, anyone, to dance with him"!

Wait the writers STILL kept Scrooge being alive in the Gold Rush!? Seriously?! And here I been barking again and again saying how they wouldn't do that, especially with how this takes place in 2017!

Also, there's one half of a map visually stuck in the teeth of a mammoth skeleton, and no one bothered to think "Hm that looks suspicious. I'm gonna see if I can get that thing out!"?

Did anyone think it was a lost opportunity to portray the Gold Rush-era shoppe as something that would be more commonplace in the 21st Century, like a museum tourist shop? It didn't seem to have any trace of it taking place in modern times (though that is not new in this show). Maybe it could have small novelty trinkets, or Scrooge could complain about these fake, made-in-china items you can't buy because they're behind glass, or the cashier could be a teenage intern.

Ooh, a new episode, and so soon! Let's see what we got.

Glomgold has a history museum wing dedicated to his losses to Scrooge. I'd say this is out of character for Glomgold, but at this point, he's just about crazy enough to do such a thing. grin

Scrooge is as greedy as he's EVER been this episode. Scavenging free food at someone else's event is just about the thing Comic Book Scrooge would do.

Goldie's eyes are literally green. Like, solid green pupils. First of all, this looks really strange. Second, Goldie's eyes are canonically blue. Ice blue, to be exact. It goes with the whole Ice Queen thing. This just looks... off. Otherwise, I like the design, though.

She's his ex. His. EX.

Called it! grin Unless its his ex-girlfriend, but still, called it!

"Ex partner, ex rival, ex everything." Yep. The show went there. I was joking, and no one believed they would do it, but they did. Bless me bagpipes.

"I feel both disturbed and intrigued." Me too, Dewey. Me too. I honestly do not know what to expect anymore at this point.

Glomgold is dating Goldie, now. Next thing, there will be a long lost son. (Please don't, show!)

Ok, that was a joke, but for a second I fell for it. grin Touche, indeed. Glomgold is basically Scrooge's personal troll at this point.

They're doing The Masochism Tango. With an actual tango.

Glomgold does the tango with Dewey to make Goldie jealous. This is hilarious. grin

Hey, its that mammoth from the comics! The one from "Get between the legs"! I wonder if the show dares to go THERE. grin

How did anyone manage to steal a huge skull without any noise in just two seconds of darkness? This is straining Suspension of Disbelief a bit.

Scrooge references the gold rush in the Klondike. Its canon. Scrooge really IS 150 years old! (For reference, Scrooge was about 10 when he earned his number one dime in Rosa's timeline, and that was in 1877.)

Nice still from Rosa's artwork, by the way. The art style of the flashback is in Rosa's art style as well, a nice callback.

White agony plains? Wasn't it called White Agony Creek?

The mammoth in the mountain was alive. Somehow. Okay.

And then Scrooge and Goldie were frozen in ice for five years. ... Really? I know this show is not super realistic, but this seems to be stretching it a bit.

Why would Goldie steal the entire skull if the map was stuck in its teeth in plain sight? This story doesn't make a lick of sense.

She brought the whole skull with her. grin While funny, again, this makes little sense.

Last week Beakly was lifting a huge coin on her own, and she and Webby are self defense experts, but now they got overpowered off screen by Goldie, somehow? The Worf Effect is in full force today.

And then Scrooge easily overpowers her. This just doesn't make any sense.

The nephews, Webby, and Beakley are not coming? So much for adventuring together as a family.

Glomgold is following them to the treasure. I expect no threat from him whatsoever. grin But who knows, maybe the show will pull an actual threat from Glommie after all.

Who drew that map? It actually circles back on itself. grin

"Oh, you'll stop the cave in. You're Scrooge Mc Duck!" She must have heard about him pulling out two smokestacks with his bare hands when someone insulted his dead mom.

Scrooge tames a wild bear. This, I can buy. See directly above. Speaking Bear is new, though.

The bear is named Nanook, by the way, which is the Inuit word for polar bear, and in Inuit religion refers to the master of bears. Nice touch.

Scrooge leaves Goldie tied up on the bear's back as it sleeps on top of her, and this somehow does not crush or even discomfort her. While I appreciate Slapstick Knows no Gender, this episode is playing fast and loose with the level of realism on this show. What ARE the rules, now? If people can survive being frozen in ice for half a decade or having a bear lie on top of them, then where is the danger? What are the stakes of adventure? This show is in danger of invoking Boring Invincible Hero for the sake of sight gags.

The Power of Love freed them from the ice. I don't even know what to say to this anymore.

She left him in the ice because she figured he would Badass his way out of there on his own. That's a pretty good joke on his Invincible Hero status, at least.

And they had this whole Foe Jay treasure hunter chase thing going on, too. This part I definitely like. It gives Goldie much more agency, and frankly makes her an even more interesting character than she already was. Rosa's version was a very strong character as well, basically the female counterpart to Scrooge regarding willpower, obstinancy, and greed, but she was ultimately passive, remaining in the Klondike and firmly in Scrooge's past. This new characterization makes the dynamic that much more interesting.

"You loved gold more than you loved me." "And that's WHY you loved me." That... that makes a lot of sense for Scrooge. He would respect someone who loves gold over anything else, even love them. This episode is actually going to make this work at this rate.

Its a literal lake of gold. As in, molten gold. This is clearly a call back to the Old Ducktales episode "Treasure of the Golden Suns", which also features a volcano full of molten gold. And Convection, Schmonvection, of course.

I'm not sure what the animation style in Glomgold's "flashback" is based on.

So Glomgold DID work with Goldie, after all. I'm not sure why Goldie would even bother, though. She seems perfectly capable of double crossing Scrooge on her own. This plot point seems to exist solely as an excuse to include Glomgold. Granted, he is funny, but it still doesn't make much sense.

They're doing the Masochism Tango again. With pickaxes. And tango music. And doing actual tango moves. This is great.

Goldie also has an The Only One Allowed to Defeat You thing going with Scrooge, and they both beat up on Glomgold, while still dueling each other, without even a pause. This fight is amazing to watch.

And then Goldie falls in the molten gold, and sinks like a stone. Aside from Artistic License – Chemistry (gold is VERY dense metal; you'd float on it), I sure hope the show didn't just killed her off.

... She's a golden statue, now. This raises SO, SO, many questions... And at this point, they are probably going to have her be alive in there, too.

And she's alive! "But... how? She should have been burned to a crisp!" Yeah, what he said! Horrifying, but yeah!

Ok, so she had a magic amulet. Which was actually foreshadowed at the start of the eipsode. Well played. Though it still doesn't explain how she got OUT of that golden statue.

Well, this was... a great episode, overall. It has a few issues, but it works pretty well for the most part. The fight scene is one of the best moments in the series, I'd say. The episodes keep getting better and better.

And I still can't believe I pretty much called the plot. grin

Wait, if both Scrooge and Goldie are older than they look as a result of some of their adventures, how old is Glomgold?

My guess is that Glomdold got involved in all sorts of shenanigans that slowed or reversed his aging, much like Scrooge and Goldie. It'd be cool if they ever properly explained it, but they don't have to.

Anyway, just saw the ep. Might be one of the best they've done so far. Also one of the first to firmly put Scrooge in the driver's seat, oddly enough.

I thought it was more a reference to Nanook Of The North, but maybe that's just me.tongue

I'd assume Glomgold is as old as Scrooge, but I'm not sure the show has ever made that explicit. There's probably a few ways Glomgold could be older than he appears, but knowing Glomgold it probably happened in an embarrassing way. Like, maybe he was trying to find the fountain of youth, and succeeded, but he ended up being too young.

Well, since this episode seems to suggest that Rosa's backstory for Scrooge is basically canon, Scrooge and Glomgold should be about the same age. Maybe Glomgold really is South African now, and just has a massive Inferiority Superiority Complex over Scrooge's Scottish heritage, hence why he insists on being VERY, VERY, SCOTTISH, MCDUCK!

Ex-everything, huh Disney? ;) ;) Oooooooooooooh yeah. T Hey went there!

Yeah this— this is the most comic-book-Uncle-Scrooge this Ducktales show has ever become so far, and I am loving it. David Tennant hasn't had this many lines of dialogue in one episode since the two-part pilot, the plot was solely focused on him. I was almost off my seat when Scrooge was stealing free food in a plastic bag.

Lets see if I can make more crazy predictions come true. grin Next week... the triplets decide they want to be single children for a day, and they find out they need each other more than they thought. Huh. Compared to some other episodes, that sounds really mundane. So is it going to be a slice of life episode?

On the other hand, this show has shown a penchant for oddball teamups. I'm going to predict that they are each going to hang out with a villain. Probably Huey with Beaks and Louie with Glomgold. Who would the third one be? Hmm, not a villain, but Launchpad seems like an obvious choice.

An ad for the ep was shown, and it seems to be that ep where Huey goes camping that was pushed back. It also shows Doofus Drake, and unsubtly hinted that he's probably going to be at least a secondary antagonist for the episode.

I know, I put that in my comentary as well. I also reminded you guys of the infamous "between the legs" comment from Scrooge to Goldie. [up] [nja]

And yes, it was frozen really dead. This show seems to go with the more cartoony variant of living prehistoric animal frozen in the ice, and Harmless Freezing in general. It happened that way in "Treasure of the Golden Suns", so there is some Ducktales precedent after all, but it definitely wasn't like that in Rosa's story, which was much more realistic about the dangers of the Klondike.

I also see it was indeed called White Agony Valley.
