I wasn't old enough to remember the transition from the SNES to the N64, so when the Gamecube came out, I was completely distraught at the fact that THE BEST SYSTEM EVER was stopping production. For a while I refused to look at Smash Bros. Melee news even though it had Peach as playable.

That animosity faded when I got my own Gamecube. XD

I remember how much the SNES was hyped up as THE BEST SYSTEM EVER on various websites even after the N64 was out, so I always felt like I was missing out by never owning a working SNES.

I played a PC version of Sonic 3 & Knuckles as a kid.

I turned the game off every time I reached Sandopolis Zone 2. Those damn ghosts scared the crap out of me, especially when they grew big in the dark.

This just happened, so I don't know if it really counts as a "secret".

In The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, near the beginning of the game, I was messing around with the Cuccos to see if they functioned exactly like their A Link to the Past counterparts (of course they did). Unfortunately, I forgot I was playing on Hero Mode (using my girlfriend's save file since it was downloaded to her system, meaning my first experience with this game will be in Hero Mode). As such, I was killed in one hit once the Cucco horde showed up.

Earlier in the game, I had also forgotten that I was in Hero Mode, and subsequently died to the rats in the first darkened puzzle. Needless to say, my girlfriend had a good laugh out of both these incidents. tongue

I was terrified of video games for much of my early childhood, and so I didn't start playing them until I was 7.

Blame my older brother. He left them running without ever touching the controller in order to mess with me. Funny enough, after it became clear that scared me, he did it in order to prove there was nothing to be afraid of. (In hindsight, these were the first inklings of what would someday become my obsessive-compulsive disorder.)

On a side note, part of why I love Kirby so much is because Kirby's Adventure was the first game I ever seriously played. I figured that the game with the little pink blob couldn't be scary. To this day it's one of my favorite games ever released.

Now for some less depressing shames:

  • Despite numerous attempts, I've never beaten the original Legend of Zelda.
  • I like the SNES Warlock game.
  • I like the music from Shaq-Fu.
  • The only Street Fighter game I've ever beaten was Alpha 2, and only on 3-star difficulty. (Oddly enough, I beat that game without losing a single round, even against the last boss - since I used Ryu, that would be Akuma; I also accessed and won the bonus fight with Sakura.)
  • I feel Ocarina of Time was a series of bad decisions and the wrong direction to take the Zelda series. I cannot say this in public, for I will be lynched.

I haven't known true fear in a very, very long time.

I'm generally not good at Mario games.

To pity someone is to tell them "I feel bad about being better than you."

[up][up] I still can't beat Kirby's Dreamland. I've beaten Adventure, but that's because it saves and you can put it down and come back to it.

Actual gaming shame that happened in real life: When I bought a copy of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, it was about 7-8 years after it came out because, because POOR. I get my games either as gifts or used and Brawl I wasn't able to get until a couple of years ago. When chatting idly with the guy at the Game Stop counter who was ringing me up, he reminded me, SNIDELY, that it was 8-years after it had come out.

My guy and I left the store unhappy - well, except for Brawl.

I actually feel a little ashamed of that to this day... like I did something wrong, like I talked too much and it prompted the guy to be rude to me. Add to that my feeling weird for not playing the latest games like other "real gamers."

Sometimes, I'm a retro-gamer by choice. Sometimes, it's because I can't be anything else.

In which I attempt to be a writer.

I sold all my Mario games at Gamestop when I was ten because I was convinced that Sonic was so much better.

I have never played any Legend of Zelda game beyond the first two on NES.

Me and my brother used to share a belief that Ni GHTS Into Dreams was the best game ever made, with unmatched graphical quality compared to every other game in the history of the medium. We also thought that you couldn't make another game that controlled like it.

I leech off of my parents' credit card to buy games on the Humble Store.

- I like Skyrim, Fallout 3, Super Smash Bros Brawl and Pokemon Gen3. It might not be shameful to me, but there are a lot of places online that saying that can cause big problems.

- I used to have extreme difficulty with Forsaken Fortress (when Swordless) in Wind Waker.

- I had to look up a guide on how to beat the Rathalos on Monster Hunter Freedom (1st MH game I played).

- I bought Fable 3 instead of Demon Souls when I had the choice between the two (and I still regret that to this day).

- I have never beaten Dark Souls (keep Rage Quitting at the Crystal Caves)

- I have 41 games on Steam that I have yet still to beat.

- Even though I have had it over two years now, I have still to beat Skyward Sword.

- I cried at the ending of Links Awakening and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue team (2nd time that Blue Rescue team caused that to me at plot points).

- I forbid my brother from fighting the Elite 4 on Blue as, due to a massive misreading, I thought if you lost to them, you would have to restart the entire game (I was under 10 years old at the time though).

- I used to be legitimately scared of Luigi's Mansion and the Sewer level in Futurama: The Game. Same with the Mansion levels in Timesplitters: Future Perfect and the Siberia Dam in Timesplitters 2.

- Still don't like fighting, or being anywhere near Redeads.

- I play as the Pyro in Team Fortress 2

... I have a lot of shameful gaming secrets...

When I was younger, I would never leave the Imperial City in Oblivion. Or do anything other than steal stuff. I also wouldn't do any dungeons, since there were too scary for me.

When I was a child playing Super Mario 64, I bumped into a Goomba. The noise Mario made when he got hit freaked me out so much that I removed the game pak from the console with the game still running.

I couldn't touch the game again for 5 more years.

I rock a white Ghastly Gibus on most of my Team Fortress 2 Characters in spite of the fact that I'm technically premium (having purchased a Frontier Justice for my Engie on the Steam Store when it went on sale).

The following happened when I played the original Final Fantasy Tactics.

While when I eventually took Velius/Belias down was an awesome moment for me, I will never forget how I underestimated that portion of the game. Before Riovannes, I was doing well, beating all who stood against me. And I was using only one save file. Then Riovannes happened. The moment I entered the castle after saving, I did not think that there would be no turning back. So Wiegraf kept kicking my butt. A lot. As a human and as Velius. And there was no way out for me. Had Ramza been prepped with weaker equipment, and if luck wasn't on my side, I would've been trapped in an Unwinnable situation. And since I was using only one save file, it meant that I would have to start from the very beginning.

Good thing that didn't transpire, but there, I learnt something: USE MULTIPLE SAVE FILES IF YOU MUST! You never know when you'll reach a wall that could be avoided...

[up] Call of Duty is one of my most favorite gaming series. I rank it higher than Zelda and Mario.

I hated Fire Emblem because I thought it was a cliché, generic, unoriginal series with stupid characters and a dull plot. I go on to play Fire Emblem: Awakening and proceed to slap myself for being so judgmental. I now kind of have a not too huge crush on Lucina.
