Well, I frequent only the cons that happen in my city after a disappointing visit to a con where I had some lodging problems (read: sleeping bag on a schoolroom floor, the usual no-cost option over here). The last one was in my old elementary school, so I could drop by in a matter of minutes.
"what the complete, unabridged, 4k ultra HD fuck with bonus features" - Mark Von LewisThat was the upside to the Flint con. It was only one day and a 2-hour drive. Also, I have family in Flint, so we go down there all the time.
The problem is that I live out in the boonies, so most decent cons are too far away. They're also on weekends, and I'm handcuffed on most weekends because I'm a church organist.
Hilariously enough, I live in the capital city, yet most cons avoid it: there's one in Poznan, one in Krakow, and those are guaranteed to be organized every year, and the one organized in Warsaw is usually pretty crappy. Sure, last year we managed to organize the big convention, Polcon (it's organized in different cities, I remember it being held in Gdansk once years ago), but it turned out to be a massive clusterfuck with people standing in lines for the tickets for ten hours.
"what the complete, unabridged, 4k ultra HD fuck with bonus features" - Mark Von LewisI've been frequenting Youmacon increasingly over the past few years. Last year was the first time I was there for all three days.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatI've been to Anime Expo these past two years. It's four days but last year and this year it keeps including the Fourth of July, so I only go three of the days.
I went to Sac Anime last year, and a con looooong long time ago that I forgot the name to.
I went to a mini-con called A-Fest back in August.
Even though me and my ride were semi-lost, we knew which building was the hotel the con was in because there were a shitton of Homestuck cosplayers milling around outside of it. Considering said ride was a furry, I proceeded to hang around a bunch of other furries he met that night.
In the backyard, buried deep underneath the tree There's a monster, takin' root in the property...I went with some people from the Comunity College to Notacon in Cleveland for the past few years. The quality has been declining so I didn't go this time. I'm planning on going to Grrcon in Grand Rapids instead. It's a long drive but I have family in the area to stay with.
I might go to Motor City Comicon too, now that I know it's not actually downtown. I hate going into Detroit.

I like charts! They're useful and easy to read!Been going to Youmacon every year since its second year. Probably going to end up doing the same for its younger sibling, Midwest Media Expo, next year.
Long live Cinematech. FC:0259-0435-4987Is this a thread about scamming people?
I'd really like to go to Chicago TARDIS sometime, but I'm not sure I'll be able to, since I'm planning on moving to Texas soon. Plenty of cons in Eastern Texas, though.
Fresh-eyed movie blogMidwest Media was good. Had a pretty decent turnout for a first time con.
Reviving this hyar thread.
I've been to the R.I. Comic Con for the past two years.
First year I was there I met Billy West and Carlos Alazraqui (and would have met Tom Kane had I not run out of money). Second year I met Larry Storch, Phil Lamarr, Dana Snyder... and Adam West, who gave me and my sister his autograph and said he "liked us." (And we said hello to Burt Ward too.)
And there's a ton of other great stuff... for example, the fact that you can handle live reptiles. (The guy who mans that exhibit used to be the janitor at my school. He said he knew Anthony Michael Hall.)
Hope to go this year too. Four Star Trek cast members (Kirk, Uhura, Chekov and Sulu), Richard Horvitz, Bob Camp... It'll be exciting!

"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."ima add a few german cons, because why the hell not
connichi back when it was still in ludwigshafen, then on the koneko at least one year. used to go to the spielemesse essen, and i was on the cologne gamescom last year (i was busy this year even tho my mother wanted to drag me along)
i was on the leipzig book faire this year, and ive got a ticket for the animaco later this year (and still working on my cosplays)
and also a couple of pen&paper cons.
cross dust to the porchesSo I went to the RI Comic Con this year.
Got to meet Richard Horvitz (who actually sounds like his characters in real life) and Bob Camp (he signed one of my R&S trade paperbacks), and George Takei and William Shatner. Missed John Rhys-Davies and Linda Blair.
I saw the guy who used to be my high school's janitor. He managed to sell his screenplay, but he couldn't remember who bought it. He was there with the guys who bring reptiles.

"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."Got back today from three days at Youmacon in Detroit. My legs don't hurt no more. Further updates as warranted
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatI got to go to Comikaze yesterday. I got Stan Lee's autograph on an old comic book my dad had.
i was at Spillexpo 2014, it was awesome
Bumbleby is best ship. busy spending time on r/RWBY and r/anime. Unapologetic SocialistI'm going to Animeazement in May. I'm super excited about it. Anyone else been to Animazement?
There's a big con in my city 3 times a year. I'm never allowed to go. My mom despises them.
ppppppppfeiufiofuiorjfadkfbnjkdflaosigjbkghuiafjkldjnbaghkdAnd again, the winter edition of the local RPG con is scheduled to happen in my old elementary school.
Can't wait to play the XCOM knockoff again.
"what the complete, unabridged, 4k ultra HD fuck with bonus features" - Mark Von LewisWent to Flint Comix this year. It moved to the farmers market which happened to also be open. Got a Rocket Raccoon poster, two Guardians trades, a drawing from my friend Randy, and some great tacos.
Also met two young girls: one dressed as Deadpool and the other as Foxy. Foxy won the youth division of the costume contest and Deadpool placed third in the adult division.
Fuck, I want to go to a con, but I don't have a job at the moment and can't afford cosplay stuff/tickets and shit.
I don’t even know anymore. You don't have to cosplay. Only about 1/3 of the people at ones I've been to were.
I didn't see a thread for this already.
So how many of you have gone to cons before? I've attended a really small comic con in Flint in 2012 and 2013 (couldn't go this year because I had other plans), and I went to Motor City Comic-Con in Detroit two years ago, which was a bit overwhelming but still fun.
But this year I'm going to Midwest Media Expo. Anyone else going? Any recommendations among the guest list?
