Shooters That You Want to be Brought Back

Go To

Considering the recent influx of classic shooters that are being revived, such as Rise Of The Triad, Shadow Warrior, Wolfenstein, and Doom, there seems to be something of a trend going on here.

So what I want to know is what classic shooter games and/or franchises do you think are ready to be brought back and revived / updated / continued?

For me, I'll start with a theme from the more recent entry in the series:

Seriously, Quake used to be so popular back in the day, so it's a shame that the series has gone missing for so long. After Doom 4, id should really start work on Quake V, maybe even going back to the tone and setting of the first game.

Perfect Dark. The James Bond FPS games. Alien vs Predator. Metroid (though, the Prime trilogy is only sorta one). Army Men.

Loved all those games.

Can't think of any: you guys pretty much already listed all the good stuff that hasn't been remade yet.

Though, it would be cool of Ubisoft got their hands on the Turok franchise and tried their own spin on it. Pretty sure they'd be successful too, since Farcry 3: Blood Dragon is already pretty damn close to the Turok experience.

[up][up]Goldeneye had a remake on the Wii which was pretty good.

Seeing as there's already been a recent Serious Sam game and Doom 4 is in the works, the only one I'd like to see is Unreal. Actually, the Tournament series. I didn't really like the single-player Unreal game. At least the first one, because I haven't played 2.

Seconding UT. Something that builds on what made UT2k4 good with a single-player/co-op mode that's basically the UT 3 campaign done right would probably be ideal.

Arcade-style arena FPS games in general haven't been so big lately. Only recent ones I can think of are Drunken Robot Pornography and Titanfall.

I don't really consider Titanfall as an arena shooter. It's certainly the most fast-paced FPS we've had in years, but it's still too similar to the other military shooters for me to put it in the same boat as UT. I'd say Loadout is more of an arena shooter than TF, but it's in third-person.

Any shooter as long as they bring back what made the shooter great: Amazing stage design and enemy design.

You know one I'd like to see again? Soldier Of Fortune. Especially since it's damage modeling is still the best out of all games; imagine what it could be like now.

A Duke Nukem that doesn't blow. 3D was too good to have such a mediocre sequel after such a long time.

What I'd personally like to see is a new Shogo Mobile Armor Division, so long as they focus on the mecha combat and do it right (read: don't turn it into friggin Gears of Modern Mechfare or soemthing like that)

James Bond: Everything or Nothing. Seriously, that game was so good. Also, Star Wars Battlefront, but judging by last year's E3, that's coming true.

[up][up]Seconded Shogo. I also want Blood back! Maybe a remake of the first one, or a sequel but still set in the past, discarding totally the lame Blood II The Chosen. The new Shadow Warrior was a reasonable success, so why not?

[up][up][up]Thank God I'm not the only Troper who truly loved that game, it was one of those rare gems that managed to get several different gameplay types together (vehicle combat, hand-to-hand, stealth, third-person shooter, two tank missions, and even helicopter chase followed by a fight) and make them all fun! Plus the mission bonus challenges gave a whole lotta replay value to it (ex beat the mission without directly killing any guards with a firearm... nothing mentioned about using chandeliers or explosive fuse boxes to do the job!)

I want a sequel to Duke Nukem 3D that doesn't suck.

Metal Arms. Still peeved that Blizzard killed the sequel in the craddle.

any Shogo sequel should be exclusively about mech combat. F.E.A.R fees like the on-foot sections of that game with the tweaks necessary to make that type of gameplay actually *work*.

Speaking of Monolith, No One Lives Forever. I find it terribly sad that Contract J.A.C.K. essentially killed the series before it could truly come to life.

I have a soft spot for Eradicator as well. It was a fun little game with some neat puzzles.

I want a Heretic with better controls. The atmosphere, weapons, and level design of that game are all really cool, but YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO STRAFE AND TURN AT THE SAME TIME, GODDAMMIT.

A proper sequel to Black on Play Station 4 or Xbox One would be sweet, maybe this time with a longer, non-linear campaign and a 64-player multiplayer to boot. Make it happen, EA.

I also would like to see a new F.E.A.R. game... provided Monolith (and absolutely no one but Monolith) develops it.

[up][up][up][up] *sigh* And apparently, the odds of NOLF getting a sequel are really remote anyhow. Long story short, no one knows who owns the rights to the franchise.

Two FPS I want are Heretic and Geist.

Heretic was the first FPS I have ever played.

I liked the premise of Geist and I thought it was fun the only problem I had was that the engine wasn't optimized so there was some framerate issues.

For other shooters I would like Star Fox and Hyperzone.

Batman Ninja more like Batman's Bizarre Adventure
