Was redirected here from a post I made in another thread.

In any case, it involves the radar page of Craig of the Creek which consists of these entries.

  • Most of the time kids use "gosh" or some variant, but Craig's dad outright uses "my God" in "Escape from Family Dinner". Earlier, his mother claims that her three children are her "sole reason of living", which could imply some suicidal thoughts.
  • In "Monster in the Garden", a photo in grandma's album shows that she was a civil right's activist, quite possibly the first treated unironically in the history of Cartoon Network.
  • In "The Curse" the graffiti the "witches" leave has feminist and wiccan iconography. It's also heavily implied that the two are dating.

Kinda got my answer already that they don't qualify so what would be the best course of action?

I'm guessing it would be to delete the entire page as simply removing the only examples there so far would just make it a completely blank page.

However just to be cautious and polite, I'll ask if this is the correct action to be done before requesting it be deleted or anything else especially considering that this a relatively new series that might get legitimate examples in the future.

Establish a consensus, preferably with at least one mod involved; if said consensus establishes that there are no legit examples, cutlist it with a link to this thread. If it gains proper examples, it can be remade. Simple as that. Sidenote: Pages used to be autolocked, but that was years ago.

I'll just re-add my opinion on those: They're all misuse.

Saying "my God" isn't something I'd expect to be caught by the censors, and saying someone is their sole reason for living does not imply suicidal thoughts. It explicitly means someone is living for someone else, without implying if it's good or bad.

A civil right's activist isn't anything I'd expect to be caught by the censors either.

Feminist and wiccan iconography isn't particularly controversal just by appearance. Implying two women are dating would maybe hit some sensitive censors if it was practically text, but if it's just subtext then I don't think that would be objectionable to censors. But without any more context I can't say whether it's an attempt at getting around censors.

As for cutting a page, I don't think there's a problem if all examples on it should be deleted anyway, and you don't need mod approval to delete erroneous examples. It's also a full page with only three examples, which I think is excessive and shouldn't have been done in the first place.

Just adding some context on some things from what I can recall:

  • When the mom called her children her "sole reason of living", she said it in a very typical loving mother way. What I got was that she was happy. Nothing implied suicidal thoughts.
  • The so called "witches" were typical goth teens. They wore black and everything. The feminist and wiccan iconography pretty much reinforced that they were goths.
  • The series was also created by someone who worked on "Steven Universe". There were very heavy implications that the teens were in a relationship of sorts that subtext might as well be text. From one of the girls being angry about leaving for college since it would mean leaving her friend; to her tearing up some Tarot cards she picked which could be interpreted as "death of love" or something along those lines; to making her friend blush when she says wants to spend as much time left. There was very little ambiguity but I think still just enough that they could easily be passed off as simply best friends. Considering Cartoon Network's clear stance on things though, there wouldn't be a problem if the relationship was made even more clearer.

Additionally, there was a fourth example based on the page's history but was deleted.

In any case, that's what I got to say to make things clearer about these examples.

I agree that the Craig of the Creek examples all seem to be misuse and that the page should be cut.

Someone added this to Radar.Calvin And Hobbes.

  • One strip has Hobbes note Calvin's mom looked very happy that morning before she put them out to wait for the bus. Two and a half hours early.
Calvin: I think Mom put me out here this early on purpose.

I always thought the implication was that Calvin's mom put him outside early because he was just annoying. Anyone know if this example counts?

This was just added to Super Mario Odyssey:

  • A few moons in Bowser's Kingdom involve using a Pokio to poke its nose through a hole in the wall. Think about it...

This seems like a stretch.

Can we axe the Kubo And The Two Strings subpage? None of those examples seems overwhelming for a PG rated movie

None of those seem like examples that would hit any kind of radar. I'm with killing the page.

I am increasingly thinking that not enough tropers understand where the "radar" lies to work with the Getting Crap Past the Radar trope. That would include me as well. I agree with cutting that page since it's nowhere stated how these things supposedly ought to be caught by the radar.

Obviously that is the biggest problem facing this trope: people seem unable to draw a distinction between "this stuff is a bit risque for the widdle kiddies" and "the censors blatantly did not catch something that the writers deliberately tried to get past them".

The Teen Titans movie has a few examples

  • The fact that the Titans constantly mistake Slade for Deadpool, a character who is not even recommended for the series' target demo.
  • A bit where Supergirl on the red carpet is asked who she is wearing, and she replies with "Plastic Man!"
  • In the last shot before the end credits, Robin grapples to the screen and demands all the children in the audience ask their parents where babies come from.

Can I get rid off the first example. A mere mention of the character is not an example. Not sure about the others.

None of those hit the radar. As you say, mentioning a character doesn't qualify. While wearing someone who can turn into clothes might be a bit questionable if you've got a dirty mind, for kids it's filed under the cool section of the brain. Asking where babies come from isn't in itself radar bait. Answering it might.

Parental Bonus is a pretty under utilized page. Most examples are of Shout Outs to works that are aimed at adults or that adults would understand before the target audience. More stuff from the Radar pages should probably be moved there.

From The Aristocats:

  • One of the characters (Uncle Waldo) is implied to be completely drunk in his debut scene. Lampshaded during this scene:
Waldo: *looking at a menu* Look! Look at this! "Prime Country Goose a la Provencale, stuffed with chestnuts"...? And "basted in white wine." *hiccups*
O'Malley: *looking disgusted* Basted? He's been marinated in it.
    • It finishes off with this little exchange:
O'Malley: *after Waldo stumbles off with his nieces*: You know something? I like Uncle Waldo.
Duchess *giggles*: Especially when he's been marinated!
    • In the Norwegian version, during a pun based joke by the geese sisters (that wouldn't make any sense in English), Waldo is directly referred to as "drunk".

Can I cut it? Disney doesn't censor alcohol in their films so there isn't a radar here.

I stumbled across Radar.Daredevil 2015. The only things on the page are mild innuendo, which fall well within what is considered acceptable for the show's TV-MA rating.

Also found these on The Boss Baby: Back in Business:

  • Getting Crap Past the Radar: Numerous in the first episode alone.
    • During the montage of Scooter being a troublemaker, one moment is of him taking off his diaper and swinging it around while his bottom is bare from the front.
    • When Tim suggests that they just help Scooter with his problems instead of trying to do business with him, Staci quietly remarks to Boss Baby, "Oh, sorry, I didn't know that your brother is... [quietly] a liberal." At the time of the show's release, usage of "liberal" and "conservative" met more common use as an insult in political debates such as on the Internet.
    • When Scooter refuses to cooperate, Boss Baby complains that this is like trying to negotiate with North Korea.
    • When the babies reveal they've recalled Scooter, Boss Baby states that they'll leave him with some mega-family with a bunch of children that they'll never notice a new baby. Staci then comments that their best chances are in Utah. Utah is well-known for its large Mormon population, which supports large families and polygamy.

As far as I know, showing a bare butt in a non-sexual context is allowed in children's shows, and the other examples are more of a Parental Bonus than actual Radar-Dodging Crap. The last one MIGHT be an example, but it still looks more like a PB to me.

Yeah, the last one strikes me as more of a Parental Bonus too. I'd say get rid of them.

I put Daredevil's page on the Cut List, and replaced the Boss Baby examples with Parental Bonus. The first two examples from Boss Baby didn't really feel like even PB, so I just removed them outright.

Found this at Separated by a Common Language:

  • In an early episode of Family Guy, where Quahog gets flooded with British expatriates, one of them tries to explain how cricket is played, using a lot of jargon. When Peter asks what the guy is saying, Cleveland responds that the only British idiom he knows is that fag means cigarette. Peter replies "Well, someone tell this cigarette to shut up."
