All Purpose Megaman Fanfiction Thread

So I 've meaning to do this for some time since Mega Man didn't seem to have a fanfiction section, but I wasn't sure when it would be apprpropriate.

And then I saw this, and it felt like as good a time as any.

So here's a thread for the Blue Bomber. Let's face it, with all the crap Cap Com has pulled(and all the Megaman games they've cancelled) our little robot buddy needs the good press.

Post your Megaman fics, your favorite Megaman fics, and just plain knock out some ideas.

Joking aside, I got nuthin', 'cept maybe an idea to crossover Legends with Tekkaman Blade.

But then the Legends characters would be mostly fucked, so I guess it's a no-go...

Chachamaru is a Robot Girl created by two super-brilliant Mad Scientists. So after beating Mega Man 2 last night, I thought, "why not tell a Mega Man-type of story using those characters?"

So there's Chachamaru Karakuri as protagonist SUPER FIGHTING ROBOT, and of her two creators, Satomi Hakase and Chao Lingshen, in Negima canon Chao actually was a Big Bad (of the Well-Intentioned Extremist variety), and since she wanted to toss out The Masquerade and shake up the world, Chao can probably be used as a Well-Intentioned Extremist equivalent to Dr. Wily.

Which I suppose would put Satomi as a much more socially-awkward equivalent to Dr. Light.

Thoughts?

I've been meaning to for a while, actually, but could never think of anything neat to do with Mega Man Legends. Maybe I can come up with something after I get around to Legends 2...

Of course, referring back to the above idea, there is still an obvious problem of what to do about the Robot Masters....

I'm fascinated with the For Want Of A Nail that Megaman Battle Network uses, what with Dr. Wily and Light going into software instead of robotic... but I don't like the way NT warrior portrayed it, and I won't be buying a Gameboy anytime soon, so the anime is my de facto for exploring that tangent.

I want to write/find a fic that portrays NT Warrior/Battle Network with a more serious tone, closer to the Classic and X series in tone.

I've actually had a huge Fusion Fic type idea in play that takes elements from as many of the different Mega Man / Rockman universes as possible. I've been meaning to get to it, but other stuff has gotten in the way.

Edit: Wait, Fusion Fic isn't quite the term. More like combining concepts from different canons into a new story. I can't quite remember the exact term though.

For a second I thought you meant a fic where Mega Man becomes part metroid.

Seems there's even a fic with a slightly similar concept to what I'm thinking of, though Megaman Reawakened is still very different.

The Memento by Qaint is pretty good, although it's based on the anime. It updates slow but isn't dead, just only updates every half year or so.

That's about it. Most other decent SF fics I know are dead now.

So, I'm going to bring up the fact that I've been considering a Rockman / Kamen Rider crossover.

Between Cross Fusion, Denpa Henkan, and Megamerge / Rock On, there's a pretty good precedent for such a concept. You would however, be limited to purely Aliens and Robots.....though I suppose the occasional Cyborg could work, considering the nature of Humanity later on in both the ZX and Legends series.

But before I can touch it, I have to work on all the other ideas I have in the pipe, and that might take forever.

Been watching Reruns of Meda Bots online, in addition to catching a sub of the Japanese version......

Medabots / Megaman crossover. They go together pretty well, just like Kamen Rider and Mega Man.

I think it could really work, though I still got a whole different Mega Man idea to try first.....though maybe I'll replace it with this one.

Wait, derp, forgot what thread we were in. Nevermind.

Although, IIRC Medabots is pretty much a mix between Megaman Classic (robots) and the early seasons of NT Warrior (kinda sport-ish, kinda very Lighter and Softer).

Yeah, I suppose. Arguably, the story would likely be just Medabots with Megaman characters instead. That being said, I would use characters, Robot Masters, Reploids, Navis and Fm beings from across the entire franchise, so I wouldn't be lacking for characters.

It really does work well. That Dr. Meta-Evil (who would have a name like that?) dude even reminds me a bit of Wily.

So after thinking about it, I might work the Medabots style angle into that story I'd already been planning.

It will definitely go in a different direction from what I'd been thinking before (I wrote up some notes on it years ago, but never got the chance to really come back to it, so making some changes might not be too hard), but it might be interesting.

It will also let me use even more characters from across the different Mega Man series, which is something I like.

Now that I know this thread exists... So, crack crossover fic idea - ZX Advent crossed over with Kill La Kill. With the main protagonist focus being Ashe and Ryuko (though Grey is around), with REVOCS and Albert at odds with each other due to mutually different end goals.

Problem is how to structure it, methinks. I mean, in theory, Kill la Kill could easily take place in the post-Zero future, but how to set everything up is another matter.

So about that idea I had... Currently incomplete, missing a few sections to finish it off.

Yeah, it mostly follows the first couple of episodes of the anime and covers the start of Ashe's story, while moving the latter forward a couple of years, also explaining why Grey is around. I had quite a bit of fun writing this, especially Senketsu's introduction, which I revelled in its silliness.

Speaking of old ideas, I've had a Mega Man idea in my head for years that I've been working on. Even did some preliminary plotting and character profiles.

I've recently been getting back on it, researching stuff from different games and all that, and re-writing some profiles.

I'm still looking up some stuff, but it's finally taking form.

It was always something of an Adaptation Distillation of all the worlds, but itoriginally started off as more inspired by straight Mega Man and Mega Man X, but after having a chance to watched subbed episodes of Medabots, I restructured it to take more exe and Starforce elements (and it lets me use more characters).

I started this thread so I could post stuff on it when I finally got it off the ground. It's still slow going, but I hope to have some stuff ready soon.

At least in the next decade or two.

Edit: Patchwork Fic. That's what it's called, since it was mentioned before. The point is, it's going well, and by well I mean stuff is actually happening. It might even manage to actually exist.

Edit 2: So here's a thought: are there any Novelizations that try and have both Vent and Aile in the story (even if it would be hard to explain how they can both use Model X and Z).

Cause I just watched fight in ZX with both Prometheus and Pandora, and am now imagining it as a tag team with the two siblings with both Vent and Aile, and it seems like a pretty cool idea.

I'm trying to consider how to properly flesh out a Mega Man X fanfic I'm writing which takes place in the year 23XX, after Command Mission and the Mother Elf's creation but before the Elf Wars.

I have a general idea of how the story will go, exploring themes of reploid oppression and the ethical implications of giving machines truly free will and then treating them as mere tools, as well as tying together the X series with the Classic and Zero series. Each of the eight maverick bosses has their own unique motivations for rebelling against humanity, and none of them are unsympathetic. The antagonists' plan involves stealing the research information from government scientists to create a much more unstable isotope of the infinite-energy-producing element that powers Zero, and then using it for a weapon that will spread deadly radiation across the Earth and kill all organic life, leaving only reploids behind. While most of the villains believe they are doing so to create a better world for reploids (though a couple of them are reluctant to go along with the plan), the Big Bad actually has their own motive for doing so. His identity is kept hidden at first, though there are some hints as to who he is, and its' eventually revealed that he's Bass from the classic series, who has managed to survive for three centuries due to him being powered by bassnium (yes, that's actually what it's called in canon), an element Dr. Wily accidentally created and later used as Zero's infinite power source. Bass has become much more malevolent since the Classic series, partly because of gradual Sanity Slippage for having outlived his intended purpose for so long, and partly because he resents humanity for creating reploids, all of whom are more powerful robots than him. True to his massive superiority complex, his motivation for wanting to destroy humanity is purely out of spite for rendering his strength obsolete. He also has a large scar across his chest where Zero allegedly injured him between the X and Classic series and wears a brown cloak to conceal his identity, making his character reminiscent of Bass.EXE from the Battle Network continuity. After Bass attains an upgrade thanks to the stolen research on Zero's body, X destroys him for good and puts a stop to his plan, saving humanity in the process. However, even with their leaders destroyed, reploids continue to revolt on the surface due to anger at their enslavement. Cut to six months later, where X is meeting with the human government leaders and the remaining officers of the reploid rebellion for peace talks. The fic ends just after a young Doctor Weil approaches the negotiating table, says he has a solution to the conflict, places a folder titled "Project Elpizo" that hints at the future Elf Wars.

That's basically the whole thing, and though I've got a general idea of how it will go, I'm having trouble with the details. More specifically, while I've got the first and third act planned, I'm having difficulty coming up with what to do in between. At first I thought of having the second act just make its way through the bases of the eight mavericks (though "maverick" is used loosely here because they're not infected by the Maverick Virus) after the initial introduction and then go straight to the final confrontation with the Big Bad, but I'm wondering if following the games' structure too closely would work for a more literary format.

Any advice on what I could do to make it more interesting than just "travel to the next bad guy's stage and defeat them?" Ideas on how to expand upon what I already have planned?

The only Mega Man author I've really read was Mandi Paugh. She focuses on the Classic series and started with a Fan Continuation of F.X. Nine's Adaptation of Mega Man 2 based on Mega Man 3. It reads long but it reads through each level. She only did two game-like stories after that though, one was relatively short in its second act and the other is a (mini-)novelization of the 1st path of Mega Man: The Power Battle; that one may be useful if you have Zero and/or Axl tagging along.

You'll also have to consider whether you want X to get all the Heart Tanks and Sub Tanks and etc. or not. (Personally, I'd have him get 6/8 HT. In X1-3, that brought his HP up to 28 (Classic's max HP). Get him at least 1 full armor set, though).

I'd rather not have a direct bridge to the Elf Wars unless you plan on doing (or have done) a story on them.
