So I just hit upon an idea:

The exact details are still unknown to me right now, but the idea is that something happens to make Dr. Gero and his androids unintentional protectors of earth instead of the Z warriors. Like Goku dies of his Heart Attack even earlier than in Trunks' original timeline, and the Z warriors are all killed by Frieza's minions.

With the world about to be destroyed, Gero releases the Androids (16, 17, and 18) in order to avoid destruction. They defeat him(I'm not sure how possible this is since it's hard to tell how far along with the Androids Gero was, but since they are stronger than untrained Super Saiyans, and Frieza is weaker than that bunch, it should be possible).

I'm not sure what would come after that. Maybe new threats from the movies instead(Cooler pops up looking for revenge and all) stuff like that.

I may have the end also be similar to the Buu series, with Babidi at first using his original goons, but when the Androids defeat them, he switches to a differnt bunch: Bojack and his minions.

There will need to be a lot of Power Level tweaking(I have to think of a way for the Androids to be strong enough to go up against such enemies, but I may Hand Wave it that if Gero could create machines as powerful as Super Saiyans, he might have been able to make something stronger- Cell may be proof of that).

....This entire idea is inspired by a desire to write Android 18 vs Zangya. There may also be a Magic Vs Science theme with Babidi and Gero going in the last arc.

I've read Bringer of Death and loved it. I also used to read Dragonball Legends, and while it is admittedly well written, the story goes so far off the rails that it turns into a story about Bardock and a bunch of OCs that in another timeline would have been the main characters of Dragon Ball. If you're okay with OCs, it's decent, but when I read a Dragon Ball fic, I tend to want to read about the characters of Dragon Ball, not Kakarot, Vegeta, Bulma, Chichi, Krillin, and Raditz In Name Only.

That said, I've also come across a couple excellent fics that haven't been mentioned yet. First and foremost of them is the fic that got me back into Dragon Ball Z fics, Break Through the Limit. It's a For Want Of A Nail fic that has the nail as Piccolo spending the five years after losing to Goku at the World Tournament devoted solely to training his body instead of developing a special technique to kill Goku. As a result, when Raditz arrives, he finds himself outmatched. Things go off the rails from there. It's the only Dragon Ball fic I've come across that I feel is on the same level of quality as Bringer of Death.

There's also Ki Blind, a post-Buu Saga fic about an invasion of alien killing machines that use special satellites to disable ki manipulation. Dropping all of Earth's warriors to about Hercule level. The fic then proceeds to force the characters to improvise or die, and not everyone manages the former. Unlike the other fics I've seen mentioned here, this one is actually complete, with an ending that's surprisingly satisfying.

So I've been pondering how my Android Heroes idea would work, and it occurs to me that a huge defining aspect of the Android saga was Gero's complete inability to control his creations.

It started with Android 8 / Hatchan, and continued right up to Androids 16, 17, and 18.

We never find out the exact details over why 17 and 18 were so rebellious, but it's theorized that Gero forced the change on them...

so what if those circumstances were a little different.

Perhaps one of both of them were dying of a disease, and Gero offers his cybernetic alterations to save them in return for fulfilling his price of destroying Goku.

17 and 18 still dislike him, but this somehow earns their loyalty.

As a result, Gero doesn't keep them weaker than 16, who is still kept on the back burner most of the time for emergencies.

I'm even thinking that since he doesn't die (yet) he might continue to make modifications to their systems in order to increase their power.

That, and if any Z warriors survive, they may train these new heroes (unaware of who they really are).

@Handsome Rob

I had an idea similar to that; my version was that the 'heroes' of Dragonball didn't come about, and Gero would still end up releasing the Androids to deal with Kakarot and eventually Frieza. Unfortunately, I'm way too lazy to work out power levels, so I haven't developed too many plot ideas other than "this happened differently".

Would you at all consider putting Androids 13, 14, and 15 into the mix? I haven't read that many stories that incorporate them. Maybe it's a filler villain thing, but I felt most of the movie villains were pretty decent (excluding Bio-Broly). If not for canonicity, they were all sizable threats.

@Hyp3r

Glad to see another reader of Bringer of Death; I was considering putting the kabosh on this thread and just making one for Bo D. Truthfully, I started reading it out of envy, but the references and the premise won me over. While I still adore canon, the whole Goku/Trunks vs Cell parts, as well as SSJ 2 Gohan's battle with Cell were amazing.

Ki Blind definitely sounds interesting. Though, I imagine the antagonists aren't that tough by DBZ standards then... heh.

They aren't. It's mentioned multiple times that if any of the characters had their ki, they could easily defeat them. And that's why the antagonists are suppressing their ki in the first place.

Of course, this doesn't actually do all that much to the androids, but pretty much everyone else is screwed.

It's not technically fan fiction, but I recently stumbled across a crossover special between One Piece, Toriko, and Dragonball Z. Haven't watched all of it yet, but it's apparently some sort of race for a really expensive piece of meat.

It's an actual episode. I ran into it on You Tube by accident. It was labeled as Battle of the Gods Eng Subbed Part 2, so I clicked on it hoping I could find a link to part 1. However, it had nothing to do with Battle of the Gods.

Bringer of Death: Chapter 77.

So, in short, Vegeta has become a Super Saiyan 2, and uses an upgraded Final Flash to fight back an exploding star. He captures Broly, but Broly has become a bit more civil, and Vegeta decides that Broly would be the perfect fit at the head of the empire. Then Vegeta returns to Earth and, as prophesized, bitchslaps Cell.

I saw the "Broly gets turned into one of the good guys" thing coming, afterall, why else would Vegeta keep him alive? From a narrative standpoint...

With the largely sci-fi theme of this fic, I really can't wait to see them tackle the Buu arc - Oniya and Bulma have provided scientific alternatives and solutions to many of the Z-Enemies, but Majin Buu is an insane, magical abomination. The only real representation of magic in this fic has been the Dragon Balls, Garlic Jr, and Hirudegarn.

So, I recently stumbled across a fic titled Human Limitations. In it, instead of crashing into a field, Raditz crashes into West City. After killing a bunch of people, he manages to attract the attention of Yamcha. Raditz concludes that the reason Kakarot didn't finish his mission is because he's got competition, and decides to help things along by taking them out. A short fight and one lucky tail grab later, Yamcha manages to subdue Raditz. Except he's so badly wounded that he doesn't see any problems with going along with the first guy to offer him medical attention (who happens to be Dr. Gero), leaving Raditz unguarded. Raditz wakes up just in time for Piccolo to arrive and attacks him. Goku arrives just in time to find Piccolo 'attacking the city' while someone he's never met 'defends it'. Long story short, Yamcha's disappearance and Piccolo's evilness result in the attack and Yamcha's murder being pinned on Piccolo. Piccolo escapes, Goku talks with Raditz and is convinced to join the saiyans in their rebellion against Freeza, and Yamcha is assumed to be dead.

Unfortunately, despite the fic being awesome, it also seems to be dead. But what is there is great.

After the whole mess with Cell, the human world goverment, trying not to rely on alien demigods everytime evil alien demigods appear, scramble to get whatever is left of Dr. Gero's research since it is probably the only thing on earth that have proven effective against the threats from space (and from Earth too...). Of course, without the old guy around, it is hit or miss.

It may show results years later, when Gohan as Saiyaman encounter other superpowered vigilantes and/or villains. Wich could be cyborgs (like 17 and 18) robots (like 16) or artificial creatures (like Cell...).

It is during the tourneament that kicked off the mess with Majin Buu that things get interesting. With many nations trying to test their "creations" against what many consider the real deal. Then Babidi comes recruiting and everything goes to hell.

It could even give the human characters a chance to shine, since not all results of this mess would be on the level where they would die if stared really hard.

Just thought I'd revive this, talk about a couple of my ideas.... >.>''

The major change in history is that the cameraman never loses his camera, and captures everything, from Hercule's humiliating ass-kicking, to the fight with Goku, to Gohan's eventual triumph over Cell. Overnight, Gohan becomes a worldwide phenomenon and, with some nudging from Krillin, accepts his newfound fame.

Mostly, at the start, he uses all the attention to talk about his father and their friends, and all the sacrifices they had made and the countless times they had saved the world. In Goku's honor, a massive statue is built at the site of the Tenkaichi Budokai,

Gohan even writes a book about his father and their exploits, and the money from the book and the talk show appearances make Gohan's family set for life, and allows Gohan to attend any school on the planet he wants, which makes Chi-Chi very happy, and allows the young Goten to train with Tien, Piccolo, Krillin, and Yamcha, without his mother's Hawk-like scrutiny. Goten rarely sees his big brother, though. He's too busy being a famous celebrity.

Vegeta, nearly insane with impotent rage and frustration at being hopelessly surpassed by his enemy's son, and being denied any taste of revenge by Goku's sacrifice, takes his frustrations out on Trunks, forcing him to train every day, as often as possible, so that he might surpass Gohan and succeed where he had failed.

Gohan's commercializing of his family legacy continues, and soon after he is done with school, Son Gohan merchandise is cramming every toy store, comic book shop, and gym on the planet. Action figures, mangas, lunch boxes, workout tapes that taught you to fly and shoot blasts of energy. As his fame and wealth grows, so does Gohan's arrogance and his avarice. It isn't long before any semblance of the young, bashful scholar-warrior is gone, replaced by a playboy red carpet socialite, obsessed with the latest trends and his stock value, training and maintaining his power level and shape more out of vanity than any desire to protect the Earth. Gohan's old friends, who he has not spoken to in years, are very disappointed. Piccolo is outright disgusted. And, intentional or otherwise, they breed a similar contempt in Goten for his brother.

And that's all concrete stuff I had..I have plans for the real plot, like Hercule being on the same side as Spopovich and whats-his-face, Gohan and Goten in the finals of the World Tournament, a twist on Majin Vegeta, and all-in-all a slight retelling of the Buu Saga...but nothing really substantial.

So, basically turning Gohan into Hercule? Or turning him into movieverse Tony Stark?

Actually, no. Turn him into Gilgamesh. The look on Goku's face when he came back would be priceless.

Actually, Tony Stark is exactly what I had in mind. Just always wearing suits and sunglasses, a drink in one hand, Videl as Pepper Potts constantly following him around, using Ki blasts to make his own pyrotechnics. Not Hercule, because he wouldn't be incompetent. He would just be obscenely smug.

So...by Gilgamesh, do you mean you want Gohan to run around raping women because he can? o.O
