Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Ancients

Plot:

Deep within the Earth, an ancient being lies sleeping. For millenia, they have rested undisturbed, almost entirely unknown by the humans dwelling on the planet's surface. None can say for sure what this being is capable of, as the only texts that even mention it have no clues as to the true extent of its powers. Some say it was responsible for the extinction of the dinosaurs, others suggest that it is capable of rewriting the laws of the universe. The only thing these books and scrolls can agree on is that it is immensely powerful.

Recently, a set of ancient tomes containing never before seen knowledge about this being, including its true name were discovered by renowned archaeologist, Alaska Smith. They are currently being kept in a museum in Ludovic City for analysis. So far, very little information about them has been leaked to the public, all that is known is that they are in remarkably good condition considering their probably age.

So, yeah. Trying this again, since the last attempt kind of ran into problems. As you could probably tell from the bit above, there will be a plot. That said, the tone of the RP should hopefully remain on the lighter side. The villains have invisible guns and will not hesitate to use them on anyone that gets grimdark.

Duels will be played out in the thread and what cards players draw will be handled by a GM/third player using a random number generator.

Rules:

  • No meta/overpowered decks. The duels in the RP should be about fun and ham, not winning. If you want to beat the crap out of people with your Elemental Dragons, Fire Kings or Dark Worlds, take it to Dueling Network or YGOPro. That said, if you want to play an overpowered archetype, but with a deck that isn't overpowered (Dark Worlds without Grapha, Fire Fists without Bear or Gorilla, Elemental Dragons without Elemental Dragons), I'll consider accepting them.
  • No villain characters. Sorry, but I already have a plot and villains in mind and don't really need any more.
  • Anime cards are allowed, within reason. However, if I think they're too broken (either on their own or in combination with something else in the character's deck) they will be rejected.
  • No randomly throwing multiple archetypes together. This means if you've got Lavalval Chain in your extra deck, you're playing Lavals or Gishkis. Not Lightsworns. This doesn't necessarily mean you have to play an archetype though and if you do, you are allowed to use non-archetype cards.
  • No Exodia, God Cards, Wicked Gods, Sacred Beasts or Earthbound Immortals. These are supposed to be one of a kind ridiculously powerful forces in the Yu Gi Oh 'verse.
  • No Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning or Shooting Quasar Dragon. Other cards that are supposed to be one of a kind in the anime/manga-verse are acceptable, but these two and the above gods are forbidden.
  • If I think a player might bring OOC drama into things, they will be rejected.
  • Standard RPing rules apply. This means no godmodding, no ghosting, no auto-hitting and no metagaming.
  • If you're going to drop out/have to leave for an extended period, please say something in the discussion thread.
  • If you want to play a non-duelist character, feel free to. Just leave out the deck and duel spirit parts of the sheet.

Character Sheet:

  • Name: Self explanatory.
  • Age: Should also be fairly self explanatory. There's no specific age range.
  • Duel Disk: Anything special about your character's duel disk?
  • Appearance: Images and written descriptions are both acceptable.
  • Brief Backstory: Has anything interesting happened in your character's past?
  • Personality: How does your character act?
  • Duel Spirit: You are allowed one, but it isn't required. However, if you have one, it must be in the character's deck.
  • Deck: Links to the wiki would be helpful but they aren't required.
    • Monsters: (Total:)
    • Spells: (Total:)
    • Traps: (Total:)
    • Extra Deck: (Total:)
    • Grand Total:
  • Other: Anything else you feel is relevant that doesn't fit any of the other fields.

  • Name: Sarutobi Saizo

  • Age: 8

  • Gender: Male.

  • Duel Disk: Just a dark grey duel disk his brother bought him.

  • Appearance: aside from being short, it's rather hard to tell what Saizo looks like since he typically wears the stereotypical kabuki-stagehand outfit associated with ninjas along with this mask to conceal his face and make him seem (in his opinion) more mysterious and cool.

  • Brief Backstory: Saizo was trained almost from birth to be the successor to his family's legacy of ninjutsu, since his older brother had given up on being a ninja to pursue his dream of going to medical school. However, on his most recent birthday his older brother gave him a ninja-themed deck and an old Duel Disk, and-it being the very first non-entirely-ninja related hobby he's ever had-he fell completely in love with the game . Now, he has two dreams: to become a great ninja and a great duelist!

  • Personality: Saizo tries his best to act like a cool and mysterious masked man, appearing suddenly and speaking in a calm and analytical-yet-cryptic way and the like. However, he tends to slip up and act more childish and hyperactive than he should, and while he really is an excellent ninja, he's also surprisingly kind and a total novice at card games.

  • Duel Spirit: Goe Goe the Gallant Ninja!

  • Deck
    • Monsters: (17)

Would a Generic Dragon deck work? It's only real theme is that it's made of, well, generic dragons. So it's a very mixed bag.

And how would you feel about this card? (Seriously, Manga!Chazz has SO many fun dragon supports, many of which aren't actually that useful or are broken. That one's one of the nicer ones, though)

About the Archtype rules, what if you want to use an Archtype but it doesn't have close to enough cards to make a decent deck out of? I was thinking of using a Mesmerizing Maneater deck and they only have 3 monsters and a trap card.

And though I suspect the answer will be no, would using The Seal of Orichalcos be allowed?

In the case of smaller archetypes, I'd prefer if you made up the rest with non-archetype specific cards if possible.

As for the Seal...I'd probably say no. Sorry. Well, either that or you can use it, but someone with the anime version will show up later, offended by your character's cheap knock-off.

  • Name: Gillian Ardess
  • Age: 19
  • Duel Disk: A black and green colored one with the main disk and card holding area protruding down from a spike coming from a multiple part sphere.
  • Appearance: Gill is a very pretty, pretty man, to the extent that among the dueling circuit, he is called the "Great Pretty Boy Champion". He has spiky red hair, green eyes, he is quite tall at 6'2'' and has a very, very well toned body that he flaunts like no tomorrow. Every single one of his outfits are tailored to show it off. His button up shirt? No buttons. He uniformly wears black leather pants, boots, and a belt. His usual posture shows a very cocky, self assured persona.
  • Brief Backstory: Gill came from a troubled background; his father was always drinking, and his mother followed a routine to such an extent that young Gill was punished for making her deviate, sometimes for very little. His parents are currently in a nursing home, both having been injured quite oddly. Gill himself soared well beyond anyone's expectations of him. He became a triumphant champion of the European Circuit, and his good looks got him some of the best marketing available. He, however, has a number of mental problems. He is a compulsive winner, being prone to bizarre fits when he sees failure.
  • Personality: Gillian prefers Gill. First and foremost. He actually winces if anyone calls him by his full name. He is a heavy flirt, and enjoys pursuing romance, though if people start to get serious with him, quite oddly, he seems to back off. He is usually calm and cool, but has a tendency if he starts to lose to start losing that cool head. He has a number of mental problems that present a development issue with him, namely that he believes people are just puppets dancing on the strings of others. Manipulation is the true face of attachment, he has told himself. Hence, he decided he simply won't be attached to anyone. He seems to have a tendency to be oddly stoic around people when its not time for him to be in public. Indeed, he wears a great many masks...
  • Duel Spirit: none.
  • Deck: Puppet of Fate
  • Monsters: 21
    • 3x Gearspring Spirit
    • 3x Gimmick Puppet Scarecrow
    • 3x Gimmick Puppet Magnet Doll

    • 2x Gimmick Puppet Ritual
  • Traps: 5
    • 3x Gimmick Box
    • 1x Mirror Force
    • 1x Solemn Judgment
  • Extra Deck: 13
    • 3x Number 15: Gimmick Puppet Giant Grinder
    • 3x Number 40: Gimmick Puppet of Strings
    • 3x Number 88: Gimmick Puppet of Leo
    • 2x Number 22: Zombiestein
    • 2x Enthusiastic Coaching King Giantrainer
  • Grand Total: 41
  • Other: Due to the limited number of Gimmick Puppets, I have needed to put in some of the ones from the anime.

[up][up]Hm, just looking at his deck, Machina Cannon will have to go. I'm a little hesitant about String of Destiny too, to be honest, given how easily that could lead to a 3000 attack monster attacking 8 times.

Also, I'm afraid I don't think his personality/backstory mesh with the tone I'm aiming for.

[up]The Thrashers will need to go, the alternative you've got for them there is fine though. Accepted.

Well, there are suddenly a lot of people signed up for this. That didn't happen 6 hours ago.

  • Name: Steven Gott
  • Age: 17
  • Duel Disk: A normal Kaiba Corp Duel DiskTM.
  • Appearance: Steven's appearance is a carefully crafted study in appearing to care as little about it as possible. He has a large supply of light colored T-shirts, some with tie-die patterns, and pairs them up with fraying cargo shorts, well worn from use. The pockets in his pants generally seem to have various odd tools or items sticking out of them, with dubiously large items seeming to fit where they shouldn't be able to (not hammerspace, he just shoves everything in hard). His face is usually serene, seeming to be always content with everything around him. His green eyes are nonetheless extremely active though, constantly taking in details around him. This can be a bit hard to tell though, as his hat, a dark brown Stetson-like piece can sometimes obscure them.
  • Brief Backstory: Steven's upbringing was pretty straightforward. He was raised in the typical household (albight one where he was the oldest of four siblings), and gained a passion for dueling when he was introduced to the game. He ended up favoring the more "overlooked" dragons, partly because they still had the awesome factor of dragons, and partly because they were so overlooked ("Somebody has to use them, so they are remembered"), and did pretty well, managing to get his hands on quite a few good cards to support them with and to put them to good use with. He ended up graduating with decent grades, at which point he wasn't sure what he wanted to do next, not really wanting to go into anything in particular.
  • Personality: Steven shows himself as being unflappable, able to take just about anything and keep a level head. Some might accuse him of being so detached because he doesn't care about anything, but he prefers to say that he cares about everything equally. Still, when he does interact with his two Duel Spirits, he shows an unusual amount of affection for them, and he really doesn't like seeing things get destroyed unecessarily, or people having their wills/spirits/dreams crushed, both of which are signs of his strong parental instincts.
  • Duel Spirit: Celestial Dragon, technically, but it's more of a force of nature than an entity, so it's not exactly talkative or aware (and really only manifests when he summons it's card in a duel), so for all intents and purposes, no he does not have it. He does have Kodomo Dragon and Poki Draco as explicit spirits who tend to be around him, though he doesn't really acknowledge their prescence. (He doesn't even have Poki Draco in his deck, so it sticking around him is...odd) He tends to be ambiguous over whether or not he can see Duel Spirits, dismissing it as an unimportant fact, but in actuality he can.
  • Deck:
  • Other: That was way too many links. The rest of you cannot complain. - Although Roxas does have more, I believe.

My grand total only comes up to 42.

Also, just so you know, the apostrophes in some of the cards need to be replaced with '%27' for them to work, for some reason.

Thank you for that. And I have 44 links. So you're close. I think that it's mostly because I have a very diverse extra deck, so that's a lot of extra links.

  • Name: Nina Ash
  • Age: 17
  • Gender: Female
  • Duel Disk: It's bright red, and has flames painted on it. Nina really wants it to stand out.
  • Appearance: She bears the mark of tsundere.
  • Brief Backstory: Nina's backstory... really isn't all that special. Her older sister got her interested in Duel Monsters when she was younger, and from there Nina got very, very, very interested in the game. Very interested.
  • Personality: Nina is a competitive, confident, and extremely resourceful girl. She treats almost everyone in the same way: With extreme derision and sarcasm. In fact, she seems to grow more sarcastic towards people she likes(though much less derisive unless they do something she sees as stupid). Nina also becomes extremely bossy towards people she likes, though she has their best interests at heart. Her harsh attitude is in part because she doesn't want people taking advantage of her when she's being nice. She reasons that if she limits niceness and is normally derisive and sarcastic, people will be less likely to attempt to take advantage of her if she likes them. As for people she doesn't know or like, well, they're probably idiots anyway in her opinion. One of the few people exempt from this attitude is her big sister, whom she looks up to. In a vast contrast to her normal attitude, Nina will be kind and calm towards children, unable to bring herself to be even remotely mean towards them. She finds children, and a great number of other things, to be cute. Nina treats Duel Monsters as nothing more then a game, but a game she has a lot of fun taking seriously. A game she also has a lot of fun in absolutely crushing people with flaming dinosaurs.

  • Appearance: Looks like this, but slightly older.

  • Brief Backstory: There's nothing really special about her past. She's just a relatively normal person with a fondness for children's card games.

  • Personality: She's a somewhat quiet and cheerful girl, with a fascination with things most would consider creepy, just look at the cards that make up her deck. She has a preference for using traps and other 'dishonest' in-game strategies to win.
Duel Spirit: Doesn't have one.

  • Other: Not too sure about some of the extra deck cards, which are mainly there to make up for having minimal attack power. There aren't a lot of insect or plant monsters I could put in that would be usable and not part of an Archtype. Most probably aren't allowable with the Archtype rule.

[up][up]Off hand, looking at that, Catastor, Black Rose, Cowboy, the Naturias, Roach, and Zenmaines are probably not going to be allowed, simply because they're all different archetypes than Six Sams. (Abyss Dweller and Mist Wurm maybe, but they're not really based in any archetypes so...eh). Just a head's up, though Tachi will clarify there.
