No, the zero-sided die is a one-dimensional Moebius loop.
Smile for me!Either way who ever came up with the system needs to be isolated for their safety and that of the wider community.

hashtagsarestupidIt sounds crazy, but it's basically using an extra randomizer instead of static +x bonuses for the difficulty. Where D&D/Pathfinder would have you beat a 25 DC, Alternity assigns a +d8 *.
That’s the epitome of privilege right there, not considering armed nazis a threat to your life. - SilaswToo much randomness to my tastes.
I just hate doing subtractions...
hashtagsarestupidI'd love to try the Riddle of Steel, but copies are really expensive and I hate working off pdfs.
Well that was like playing a game of Whack-A-Mole where "mole" is defined as "Cthulhu". -Count DorkuSo been looking at my .pdf collection... I want to think about trying to run D&D 3.5e in the Midnight setting, even if no one is going to be on board being in a very gloomy world... or even my gloomy disposition...
Another system I always wanted to try is Call of Cthulhu but no one seems to want to try that due to... it's connotations... dunno where to go these days really...
connotations?
hashtagsarestupidHere's the thing abotu Call of Cthulhu in general, it's very lethal, and easy to go insane trying to fight. The mentality of the players is to overcome them even by force. I feel like it's a good system but sometimes I feel like no one shows interest in it, because I have a habit to bait and switch or even remind people I will DESTORY any Hendersons immediately...

Where do I start?
I'm in the mood for some 4E, 7th Sea, nWoD Hunter or Spirit of the Century.
The hits keep rollin'!The list of systems I want to play now includes Genius The Transgression and The Whispering Vault (in addition to Paranoia and Dont Rest Your Head).
Somehow I get the impression that none of these is really a good idea for someone who has never played before, though.
The Revolution Will Not Be TropeableI just read the page on Exalted. Mother of God.
This is a signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.Brilliant setting and idea. Awful mechanics (in 2e) in terms of supporting it.
So, it's White Wolf's Rifts?
That’s the epitome of privilege right there, not considering armed nazis a threat to your life. - SilaswThat is actually a very good way of summing it up.
Well, it's not exactly Rifts since the mechanics is functional from what I can see (except for some details). It's just awful for something as narrative driven and theme focused on the "you're a Demi-god. What are you going to do now?"

It sounds great for play-by-posts/rules lite campaigns.
This is a signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.Exalted? Hah! It is horrible for that kind of campaign.
That's not strictly true.
Hacks of other systems to run Exalted can usually put up a decent showing. It's just that the grinding mechanics of 2e are sort of actively hostile to anyone playing it, especially online.
What is a good syterm to play online then? I can't think of one.
hashtagsarestupidI've seen some Nobilis logs that indicate it seems to work fairly well over IRC.
I imagine Fate is a breeze to play on line, what with the rules light/narrative heavy design ethos.
Gimme yer lunch money, dweeb.^fate is a good one.
We might start seeing game systems developed in coming years with Skype and the like in mind.
hashtagsarestupidFaery's Tale Deluxe, especially if you use the simple contest rules for physical combat, is awesome for Pb P. But few people would ever buy it, because it was designed for parents with kids.
Alternity has it's fans but it's game mechanic sound really wonky. This is the description from The Other Wiki:
