Would you consider "Latch" generic club shit? It was popular in 2012 in the UK.
Peace is the only battle worth waging.No.
Actually, the fact that it's supposed to be a club song is news to me. If I were a club DJ, I'd only play that if the people need a break from dancing, and I don't think clubs ever do that.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page."Summer" by Calvin Harris is a pretty generic club song.
Put me in motion, drink the potion, use the lotion, drain the ocean, cause commotion, fake devotion, entertain a notion, be Nova ScotianHow else is the DJ supposed to encourage dancers to go to the bar so to stay in the establishment's good graces?
Ever heard of a cool-down room?
I'll hide your name inside a word and paint your eyes with false perception."Rude" has been pushed from the top to #5. What has prompted this sharp fall?
"Shake It Off" by Taylor Swift. Big surprise.
557k sales, 18.4 mill US streams, and 71 million radio impressions. Even if you don't like her, that's impressive. Will Taylor stay at the top for 8-10 weeks? Maybe.
"Anaconda" has shaken its way to #2, thanks to the VM As and its record video music debut. This is a higher peak than "Super Bass" and "Starships". She has claimed her upcoming album will be less pop, but you'd never guess it by her latest single activity.
Where is "All About That Bass"? Please don't be top 5, please don't be top 5…
Peace is the only battle worth waging.#3. It had no treble staying up there.
I used to really hate Nicki because of her generic club shit songs like "Super Bass" and "Starships", but Pills N Potions and Anaconda (lazy sample aside) have slightly improved my opinion of her.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.No idea what kind of charting chances it's got but the video is a right corker regardless (she made it herself, with the aid of her brother). That guy who does the Dantes Inferno recital in the intro is David freaking Hayter, of all people.

Grimes has had Brooke Candy in a video before.
"Go" is the most radio-friendly thing that I have heard from Grimes so far, at least in the main section of the song, which is sort of funny given that I have always felt that her music was less weird than it could have been given her image and videos.
I'll hide your name inside a word and paint your eyes with false perception.Just because Grimes was brought up... Brooke Candy - Opulence; skip to 1:05 if you only care about the part of the video with the music.
I was introduced to her a few months ago and I really enjoy her image especially. I can't tell if I'd listen to her without the videos, but I really enjoy watching her.

That reminds how much I find Sia's "Chandelier" to be extremely poor drivel from a lyrical standpoint. I mean come on! The second verse is only one fucking line! There's more screeching harpy chorus than there is actual song!
But I love "Chandelier"...
Seriously, there are few songs with its subject matter in the mainstream, and none that manage to become as popular as it is despite its dissonance. Plus, the line "I'm gonna fly like a bird through the night, feel my tears as they dry" is simple but descriptive when it comes to Sia's character.
Remember, she wrote "Diamonds". Even if you don't like it, you must admit it's a pretty stellar pop ballad.
Now for "Guts Over Pain", I think the very end of the hook falls a bit flat, but if you know both about Sia's and Eminem's history as artists, it's pretty clear why he chose her for a feature. The hook applies to both, in terms of both suffering major low points in their careers, and coming back strong.

I also really dig "Chandelier". It's a song about partying really hard as means to mask huge amounts of pain. Not what I'd lyrical drivel at all.
Put me in motion, drink the potion, use the lotion, drain the ocean, cause commotion, fake devotion, entertain a notion, be Nova ScotianExactly!
Come to think of it, can any song currently in the Top 10 be considered "lyrical drivel"?
Peace is the only battle worth waging.Sia should release a cover of "Diamonds" (yes, a cover of a song she wrote).
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page."Shake It Off" by Taylor Swift is #1 for a second week:
http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/6236690/taylor-swifts-shake-it-off-holds-at-no-1-on-hot-100
"All About That Bass" peaks at #2, along with "Bang Bang", at #4, due to the VMAs and its music video release. "Anaconda" hovers in #3, mostly from streams and small increases in other metrics. "Stay with Me" retreats to #5.
"Boom Clap" by Charli XCX returns to the Top 10 at #10, due to a #1 on the Pop radio charts. Yay!
Oh, and "Fancy" is now the official Song of the Summer for 2014, with "Rude" in second.

Ugh, I was wrong about generic club shit being gone. I guess I was so caught up in the disco revival of last year that I completely ignored it.
I have to cry in a corner now.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.I like "Boom Clap", but I have a serious, serious pet peeve of music videos using clips from the movie it's from. It seems lazy.
And it also dates the music video even more than it already would have with just the video and style of music alone.
Wait, that song is from a movie?
Insert witty 'n clever quip here.
I think what I'm truly upset about with "Break Free" is not that's it's club shit, but that it falls under generic club shit, as described by The Axis of Awesome here. Generic club shit dominated from 2009-2011, so then people got tired of it starting in 2012, but it still seems that some talentless hacks are still making it. Let's hope that David Guetta and Calvin Harris don't follow suit.
