I noticed lack of one general thread regarding Warhammer Fantasy, so I decided to create a one. :)

Not only Warhammer Fantasy Battle discussions welcomed, but also all things related to Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay (regardless of edition).

If anyone has questions regarding Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay's second edition, feel free to ask since I own most of its sourcebooks.

Warhammer 40,000 has its own thread here

I just give them the most absurd pronunciations. How do those Fee-ray Slayers fare against the Or-ucks, anyway? Or are there any new ALF releases scheduled?

[up][up] I'm well aware of why they received a silly, ineffective rename that won't actually achieve anything. Doesn't make me more willing to go along with it.

A race of so called Mist Daemons (although they weren't actual Daemons) that were removed before I started playing back in the 90s, rumoured to be because of the Unfortunate Implications of a race that, according to their fluff, reproduced by kidnapping women of other races. They were slowly being reintroduced into the fluff of Warhammer Fantasy (without the reproduction part) and had some Forge World models

I've just got gotten back from the Bugmans XXXXXX League Cup, the first Blood Bowl event to be held at Warhammer World for 7 years. Of the five games my Necromantic Undead team won two and lost three but I scored more casualties than my opponent for two of those losses.

Game 1 was against regular Undead and I lost 0-2. I was very rusty for this game having not played for 8 years but I had still had a very good first half where I scored 3 casualties and KOed half his team. I didn't do so well in the second half and conceded the 2 touchdowns.

I lost the second game 0-2 as well but as I was facing a Wood Elf team I consider such a low score to be something of a moral victory. I managed to foul his Treeman into the Dead & Injured box and almost scored in the first half. In the second half I managed to KO his Star Player, Jordell Freshbreeze, relatively early and he stayed out cold for the rest of the game.

Game 3 was the first one that I won, scoring 3 touchdowns for my Goblin opponent's 1. He had terrible luck throughout the game, failing lots of his Stupidity tests for his Trolls so that they couldn't do anything and his Goblins generally fumbling the ball and tripping over their own feet.

Game 4 was against Humans and it was a very close game that I eventually lost 0-1. I almost scored at one point despite having only 10 men on the pitch due to KOs. I also took out his Ogre with fouls. Although I did loose a Ghoul to the Dead & Injured box but overall he had terrible luck attempting to penetrate my team's armour.

The final game of the weekend was against Humans again and I won 2-0. To be fair, it would have been a draw but my opponent's Blitzer tripped over while trying to get to my touch line allowing me to get the ball, pass it up the field and score with my Werewolf.

Overall the event was very good and I ended up ranked 73 of the 92 players at the event. As usual Wood Elves held the top four positions with Goblins being the highest ranked non-elf team. There were lots of Goblins and Elf teams of various types.

The event was also had the head of the new Specialist Games department there with a preview of the first lot of stuff for the new edition that will be coming out. The models are very nice, as are the board and dugouts. Both of these are reversible with one side being Human style while the other side is Orc style. There are apparently going to be 7 plastic teams available for the first lot of releases and they are apparently going to try to do themed boards and dugouts for these as well. Star Players and Big Guys will apparently be done In resin by Forge World.

So I'm eventually contemplating a post-Bretonnian army that sort of formed around remnaints that rallied around a guy who CLAIMED to have drunk from the Holy Grail and was chosen to lead the new Bretonnian realm to glory by the Lady of the Lakenote . I'm not sure to go for "the descendants of the above", so they're basically Expies of 18th century France with white-coated Fusiliers led into battle by noble officers and supported by giant Clockpunk war machines cranked by slave cohorts or Steampunk revolutionaries who destroyed the above regime and are now basically out to destroy the Gods (Chaos, Gorkamorka, Sigmar...) and supernatural and establish Mortals as the supreme rulers of the realms.

[up]Sounds interesting.

I have been thinking about what I would do if/when I do an Age of Sigmar army. My current plan is a Fyreslayer Lodge based in the Realm of Shadows with charcoal black skin and blue flame hair.

[up]Cool.

On a different note. I mentioned this on the Warhammer Discussion page but I may as well mention it here as well.

The minor Human kingdoms (Araby, Cathay, Nippon, Tilea, etc.) were recently removed from the Fantasy Counterpart Culture entry on the Warhammer page. Should these be put back as, to me at least, they are pretty much that trope.

The official Age of Sigmar FAQs are up.

The 40K ones are taking a little more time apparently.

Sorry for the double post but there is some Age of Sigmar news/rumours: With the release of the General's Handbook and its 'Three Ways to Play' Age of Sigmar is entering its 2nd Edition.

Basically from here on each army will start to become more distinct with army specific magic items, spells etc.

[up]Well there are the four Greater Fractions (Order; Chaos; Death; Destruction) that are each split into Factions (e.g. Stormcast Eternals; Seraphon; Sylvaneth; etc) with some of these Factions are then split into sub-factions (The Stormcast have the regular Stormcast and the Extremist Chambers for instance or the Khorne Fraction is split into Khorne Aliened Slaves to Darknessnote , Khornate Daemons and Khorne Bloodbound).

I just had a Fridge Brilliance moment about Kislev's name.

Kislev = Ki + sl + ev.

Ki + ev = Kiev. As in, Kievan Rus', the medieval East Slavic state from all modern East Slavic nations (Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus) claim descent from.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who realized this.

Well you aren't the first to see the Kislev = Kiev.

But what about seeing the "-sl-" in Kislev as being derived from "Slavic"? Or why choosing "Kiev" as the root is relevant/meaningful?

And yet the Chaos Wastes are supposed to be medieval Scandinavia and they're further north than Kislev is.

It's not exactly a 1:1 comparison.

and yet Settra the Imperishable did not survive... still went out like a boss though, despite being offered EVERYTHING by Chaos, maybe even godhood, not daemonhood, godhood, he still told them to fuck off, and fought their forces as the world came to an end...
