I don't remember that much from the movie. Hell, I probably didn't understand much of anything that made it clear he was a Jerkass, young and all. In general, I think I'm rather sympathetic to characters getting grim ends unless they're CompleteMonsters through and through. Dying makes me
PAY NO ATTENTION TO MY VIDJA GAME PLAYING BEHIND THE SCREEN

So do negative men, so that argument is moot.

I think there's room for it in Black Comedy, but it has to be evenhanded. Therein lies the trouble. So far there's no good way of making a man hitting a woman funny. Unless it's with a pie.
Stuff what I do.Pffft. You guys want to get rid of abusive comedy? Buncha pantywaist liberal commies.
Slapstick Knows no Gender my friends...
Bleye knows Sabers.Add in the word pinko. I like that one.
My problem isn't so much that hitting people isn't funny, it's that it's meant to reinforce other things. For example, the "PERVERT! *PAWNCH*" trope reinforces not just All Men Are Perverts, but All Women Are Prudes.
I don't have a problem with general slapstick, but the ulterior motives are what piss me off.

Only you Zeal could turn such a shitty trope into an equal attack on women.
Not wanting someone to see you nude makes you a prude?
That's hardly the only time that happens. I'm mostly talking about the Unprovoked Pervert Payback combined with Accidental Pervert. It makes the woman the one completely at fault while at the same time handwaving violence as the perfect response.

This is an interesting phenomenon, and it happens all the time; an issue that primarily affects men is twisted and re-interpreted as actually being a side effect of sexism against women.
Inspiring.
This happens because so many things that primarily affect men are at least in part side effects of things that primarily affect women. It's important to draw a distinction between "X is the flipside of Y, and we have to solve them in tandem," and "X is actually Y, you sexist pig!"
Can I just say that I hate the Accidental Pervert trope? So, so many Unfortunate Implications...
Stuff what I do.Okay. Prove how it is completely unrelated to marginalization of women in any way.
No one in Japan knocks on doors.
Because the trope is about how men are always seen as horrible perverts and deserve beatings for it.
In some anime it can be REAL cruel, like a guy will walk into HIS OWN ROOM that a girl is changing in without him knowing and the comedy is him getting his ass handed to him.

And on the flipside, the guy gets to see a girl naked or grope her against her will without being morally culpable. Because it was an accident! *big aside wink to the audience*
Stuff what I do.I'm just sick of seeing issues that primarily affect men flipped around so as to actually be an issue for women. For example, someone over in the Tropes vs Women thread said that the fact that men receive higher prison sentences for equivalent crimes is actually an example of sexism against women, because it treats them as weak. That may be true, and there is probably always going to be some overlap, but it doesn't change the fact that it is men specifically who are being disadvantaged by the double standard.

And the woman is being unreasonable, right?
Then let's get rid of the perception that women need to be protected.
I don't see how you can acknowledge that it's true and yet dismiss it at the same time.

Its never ever portrayed as such.
Not what I'm asking. Do you think she's being unreasonable?
edited 30th Nov '12 11:31:39 AM by KingZeal
In some cases, yes she's a bitch.
It depends on the scene, if the guy opens the door on accident and she shrieks and he closes the door, thats reasonable,
She fucking stomps on his head she's a bitch.
And so, if she's a bitch, isn't that a negative portrayal of a woman?
Why is that an issue?
Because women can never be portrayed as such?

I wonder if we can report the misogyny derails ...
@Thorn: I think the issue is how prevalent it is.
METAL GEAR!?
It was probably one of the more...outlandish deaths in Jurassic Park.
The guy was a Jerkass and a Dirty Coward and he dies on the shitter. Yeah I'd call that a comedic death.
Whats wrong with portraying more negative women?
They exist.
