The sum total energy of all the fossil fuels we have ever burned, all the uranium we have ever fissioned, all the food ever eaten by humans or livestock, all the solar, wind, hydroelectric and geothermal energy ever collected, and every last erg ever used by any artificial process in the history of our species is still less than the kinetic energy of the Chicxulub impact that killed the dinosaurs 65 million years ago.

Despite the belief that the moon landing was a hoax, it would have cost more to fake the moon landing than to actually do it back in the 60's

There is some minimum integer M for which it cannot be proven within the bounds of mathematics that any other integer, however large, contains more information than M. Not only that, but it is possible to prove upper bounds on the size of M, and in fact, there are known upper bounds.

[up]Surely one can prove inductively that a larger number will contain more information?

The concept of a difficulty curve in video games came about serendipitously as a result of hardware limitations. The arcade game Space Invaders was much too computationally intensive for any machine in existence at the time, which caused the enemy sprites to move very slowly. Destroying a few of them left less work for the computer, causing the game to move faster and faster. The last few enemies became exceedingly difficult to hit.

In 1983, the first commercial 3.5-inch hard drive was released, with 10 megabytes of space. In 2007 the first 1-terabyte hard drive was released, and in 2011, the first 4-terabyte drive. The average rate of increase during those four years was equivalent to one entire 1983 drive every seven minutes.

Surely one can prove inductively that a larger number will contain more information?
Apparently not, at least not within the proof tools provided by mathematics itself. For details, see here. I'm not an expert on the subject.

There is a place in Africa where the distribution of radioactive isotopes in the ground indicate that, 1.7 billion years ago, it was a naturally occurring fission reactor, regulated by groundwater.

Wait, it gets better: There is now a theory that a much larger natural reactor once existed on Mars, and exploded.

The world's most remote airport is Mataveri International Airport, Rapa Nui. The only city from which it receives regular flights is Santiago, Chile, 3759 km away.

That makes it over 2.5 times more remote than the airport at the South Pole.

On 15 July 1942, a flight of five US P-38 fighters and 2 B-17 bombers had to make an emergency landing in Greenland due to bad weather. The crew were rescued after eleven days, but the aircraft had to be left where they sat, where they were eventually buried by 80 metres of snow.

One of the fighters was excavated by the Greenland Expedition Society in 1992 and later restored to full airworthiness. It is still flying today under the name "Glacier Girl".
