The movie went for Rule of Cool, no doubt.
The voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the groundDidn't they fire a 7.5cm shell down the barrel of the Karl and through the loading breech? Those girls are dead now.
It's been fun.I don't think so. Judging from the loading sequence and the fact that the explosion from the killing shot only affects the gun assembly on top of the main body, said assembly must be devoid of any personnel.
Speaking of which, the Karl's loading sequence shows that automation of normally manual functions in a tank's design (e.g. the wheels used to load the Karl's shells) can be permitted, presumably for safety purposes (in the Karl's case, the wheels are on the outside, and thus would put crew members at risk of either getting caught in the explosions of enemy tank shells or being thrown off from the vehicle as a side-effect of said shell's impact on the vehicle).

... A six part film series??? O_O They had better not make the same mistake that Anno and co. made when he decided to make Rebuild of Evangelion a four-part movie series instead of a TV series like the original anime was.
BTW, your avatar appears as a broken image to me, Chariot.

You know, I just had a thought yesterday about a potential scenario for the 64th Senshado National High School Tournament.
Miho and co. are in high spirits from having saved Ooarai from closure twice and seeing no signs of Slimebastard Tsuji getting up to his old shit over the past months since the match with UST. They look forward to the upcoming 64th Senshado National High School Tournament, which seems to be shaping up to be the low-stakes event that it should be compared to the previous tournament; what's more, Ooarai's victory both last year and against UST has inspired many other schools to join this year's tournament, increasing the number of participants.
Then things take a serious turn when a relatively obscure school blows through its opposition like a storm... and leaves each team considerably shaken on a psychological level with the sheer brutality of their tactics. It's almost as if they're purposefully waging psychological warfare against their opponents.
St. Gloriana, which favors a slow and orderly advance? Thrown into utter disarry the moment they made first contact and forced to disperse into small units, then into lone tanks, which quickly became easy pickings. In the aftermath, Darjeeling is unable to properly hold her tea cup due to constantly shaking hands, saying that the Death Glare she saw when she met the opposing commander's eyes keeps haunting her.
Saunders, who favor overwhelming the opposition with sheer numbers of the not-outstanding-but-not-shabby Sherman? They met a Stone Wall upon which their waves crashed impotently, and then the wall decided to turn into a moving meat grinder. Kay loses her smile when Miho asks her about the match, and tells her that the other team felt all wrong for practitioners of Senshado, like... like they're filled with nothing but hate.
Anzio, who favor deception and hit-and-run tactics that capitalize on their mobility of their tankettes to give their heavier units the opening they need? The mystery team stubbornly refused to take the bait, more or less made a mockery of the tankettes' mobility, and seemed to take the extra time to wipe out all other tanks before actually taking down the flag tank. And the commander went the extra mile by delivering a Breaking Speech to Anchovy after the match when the latter invited her for Anzio's usual post-match doesn't-matter-if-we-won-or-lost celebration.
Pravda, who's signature strategy revolves around the Defensive Feint Trap? Not only did the team walk into the trap on purpose, they broke out it unscathed and then managed to trick Katyusha and Nonna into walking into one of their own.
And Kuromorimine, whose style revolves around a combination of generally superior tank technology, fighting in tight formations, and launching a relentless assault as quickly as possible? Maho's flag tank got sniped before anyone knew what hit them, ending the match in what many commentators would describe as an anticlimatic manner.
Now come the finals, which pit Team Ooarai against this newcomer. Against all odds, Miho manages to claw her way to victory, with the match eventually culminating in the opponent's flag tank (which is also their commander's tank) being a sitting duck in the gun sights of both Miho's tank (the Ooarai flag tank) and another Ooarai tank. Before she delivers the coup de grace, however, Miho just wants to know one thing.
Before the match, Miho tried to shake hands with her opponent... but unlike every other team commander that tried that the latter and only met a frosty Death Glare and a silent refusal, Miho was met with an expression of barely contained rage and an immediate slapping away of her hand.
During the match, rather than the coldly emotionless expressions they were seen to have in previous matches, the team commander and every other team member whose face was seen during the match with Ooarai had nothing but openly hateful expressions to give to their opponents.
And now, facing certain defeat, the commander's rage seems to be at the boiling point. And Miho's gut feeling is screaming at her that she must ask this question before taking the shot, that doing otherwise will be Bad.
So she asks: "Why do you hate me?"
The answer: "Because you turned my love for Senshado into hate! IT'S BECAUSE OF YOUR VICTORY THAT MY SCHOOL IS GOING TO BE CLOSED DOWN!"
At this point, I'm finding myself stumped at how things may progress from here.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. That's a fanfic waiting to be made.
Unrelated t it though, did anyone watch Anime-Gataris episode 6? The episode is a long shoutout to GuP — they take a trip to Ooarai

First episode of das Finale is out at the usual sources.
That overblown news about Momo repeating a grade (she just couldn't find a university to apply to, or something to that effect). So the solution is to get her a college Tankery scholarship by winning an upcoming tournament. There is one catch: Momo has to be the commander. The question going through fans' heads: "With her propensity to miss shots as a tank gunner and how rarely she acts like a leader, will Momo be OK taking the commander's role?"
Ah, the Mark IV... The "Grand Old Lady" of landships. And they're crewed by Japanese Delinquents (who speak like pirates) living in the bowels of the Ooarai school ship who owe Momo a favor. (I wonder if Shuka Saito—who voiced the sailor-ish You Watanabe—voices one of them?)
A Renault FT, Somua S35s (a.k.a.: the other "ducks") and... ARL 44s? Wait a minute, aren't the last ones post-WWII tanks? Or are the period-specific restrictions for tanks much looser in this tournament?
"Played like a damn fiddle." Cheeky subtitles are cheeky... Also, a How We Got Here scenario, just like the first episode of the TV anime. I thought it would end in a cliffhanger, but... OK, it kinda does, but not exactly leaving at a tense point.
"Learn as if you will live forever, live as if you will die tomorrow."Unfortunately, no for the voice actress, but we have Ayane Sakura voicing Ogin.
The only resource you need for tropesThis has got to be one of the most consistently good shows I've watched. No more school shutdowns thankfully, but thankfully Momo is still bullied. Or heck, that's the main stakes this time. At least she's smart enough to know she's a puppet commander. New crew is great. They certainly know how to put on a show. I vaguely remember BC Freedom from one of the 50 spin-off manga this series has. But just that they're French. Still, for a bunch of historical jobbers they seem to be savvying up. Yukari is getting too famous. Too bad for them Oarai has patented tanks riding tanks.
Your preferences are not everyone else's preferences.BC Freedom are from the Ribbon Warrior spinoff manga, right? AKA How To Make Tankery Even Gayer?
It's been fun.Hm, this feels more like a second season than a finale. Relatively toned down compared to Der Film. Which I'd consider a good thing, since it leaves more room for plausible tactics
Shark team is pretty fun. Got a surprising amount of focus
A 2nd season can be a finale.
WTH? Despite the CGI being quite obvious, the transition between animations is really good.

YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.WTH was up with the below decks.... lawl.
And there are going to be 6 movies each ~45 minutes each instead of 12 episodes at 24 minutes each, its season 2 in a different format.
The ARL 44 is technically a post-war tank, but only because of its incredibly slow development process. The French had made wooden prototypes by the end of WWII, which makes it valid for Tankery.
What's precedent ever done for us?Weren't a lot of the tanks used in Das Film technical violations? Or just outright actual violations?
It's been fun. It's Der Film, and aside from the Karl and the T28 (both of which are obviously overstretching the definition of "tank" far too muchnote ), it's complicated. The Pershings are genuinely WW 2 tanks, but the UST Pershings used certain pieces of equipment that were post-WW 2 upgrades (e.g. the engines); meanwhile, the Centurion (Alice's tank) is technically a post-WW 2 tank by actual production date, but development began and some prototypes were actually made before WW 2. Both are cases of Loophole Abuse, but the former can swallowed, while the latter is just Slimebastard Tsuji is just a step away from blatantly cheating with what could be considered a "WW 2 tank". Still an easier pill to swallow than the Karl and T28, though.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.^Ah, my bad. I'm not up on German and it was a while ago that I saw it.
Yeah, that sounds about right. Then again, given what that movie did to the laws of physics and common sense, I'm not surprised less-binding rules like what's appropriate for Tankery were also stretched to about the breaking point of credibility.
It's been fun.FWIW, the Head of the Senshadou Federation pointed out every instance of such rule-bending/breaking/twisting by Tsuji, and IMO didn't seem truly convinced by Tsuji's confident justifications for them.
Speaking of which, it was just delicious to see the former being subtly smug when Tsuji complained about the Big Damn Heroes that was the other schools arriving as "temporary transfer students to Ooarai Girls' Academy", only to be informed that what they're doing is perfectly legal.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. Finally got to see Das Finale (pt. 1). Heh, every time I tune into anything GuP related, it never fails to be amazing.
So this season is about preventing Momo from repeating another year graduating safely. Poor girl can't catch a break.
Shark Team's an awesome bunch. "Rescuing" Sodoko using their Tankery skills was fun. Miho "getting" into a bar brawl was especially amusing. And while short, that Mako/Cutlass thumb wrestling match was simply divine.
Using a tank to cook your meats. How...innovative.
But huh, to think Oorai has a lawless district.
"What was our problem at the last competition?" "We didn't charge hard enough!" Oh, you Chihatan girls.
BC Freedom sure is a disorganized bunch. Then the team members put their hats on. Even though it's a regular first-round dropout, it seems BCF is not to be trifled with. Poor Yukari, getting duped like that.

Oh right, that giant monster.
Well, then again, the movie kind of tossed out most pretention at realism, I felt. The tank drifting in the last episode of the series was one thing, but the attempt to throw the Anzio tankette was just kind of nonsense.
It's been fun.
