For the uninitiated... A contingent of tropers (mostly from across America) holds regular get-togethers over the Interwebs on this site called Synchtube which lets individuals, such as ourselves, open and join in text-based chatrooms within typical web browsers (Firefox, Chrome, et. al.) that allow the chat participants to view YouTube videos in synchronization with everyone else present (without even needing to set up an account)... and we've decided to use said chatrooms to play cheeseball webvideos and feature-length movies found in the public domain which stretch all the way from letters B to Z, which everyone subsequently riffs on a la MST3K.

For over EIGHT years, everybody who gets involved mostly finds good enjoymentnote  in calling out tropes that are recognized in the videos and stories and coming up with jokes to fling back at whatever's happening on the screen, many of which turn into various in-jokes and running gags (a Coven Glossary is kept and maintained for everyone's help and convenience HERE) to repeat in the chat.

We're always looking for new ways to better coordinate and expand our activities and are more than happy to welcome newcomers interested in joining our gatherings.

Welp, I'm back here on campus (technically my apartment). I'm all moved in, hassle-free

And as a bonus, the lass I fancy has moved into the apartment complex and I can talk to her whenever I please

Campus party at Prom's place!

By the way, speaking of "The Asylum" and direct-to-video mockbusters and the like, there's an intriguing story involving a recently produced B-movie in the UK that I just found out about. As the story goes, a low-budget biopic about notorious London gangsters The Kray Twins is being released direct-to-DVD to coincide with the release of a bigger biopic on the life of the Kray Twins that will be featuring Tom Hardy in the role of both lead characters.

He's a short scene from the low-budget mockbuster. (The "1966 World Cup Scene" in United Passions had more convincing production value!)

Where things really take a unique turn is where it turns out that the film's producer—a former pornographer-turned-professional sports team owner— has reportedly been using sockpuppets to jack up the film's rating on its IMDb page and leave positive reviews.

The film's IMDb rating was at 8.3 when word of the suspicious reviews began to emerge. Now, the public at large appear to be correcting this abberation.

We're down to the last three (3) episodes of The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr., and tomorrow is kicking off a two-part season series finale.

So swing by now, as we kick off the beginning of the end.

Then, after that, at the top of the coming hour, "LOOK—Nazis on Dragonback!", it's The Asylum "worldwartwospoilitation" piece P-51 Dragon Fighter.

Sad to be missing this, but there is a Board Game Night thing going on in the student center (an event, not like last night which was with a friend), and social interaction trumps Synchtube. :/

So, tonight, if you're up for stupid fun and excitement, we'll be featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger in The Last Action Hero, starting at 7:30 PM (EDT).

Trailer

Also, note that I'm gonna hold off on the first episode of the 2-part finale of Brisco County, Jr. for tonight, as that would require us getting started way early, before 6:45 PM. So starting at 7:00 PM (EDT) this evening, we'll make do with a short, expedited pre-show, then we'll quickly move on to our feature and get set to wrap around our usual time.

Got a recommendation. It's a Hungarian (I think) animated film adaptation of The Princess and the Goblin an influential 19th century fantasy novel by George Mac Donald. It's an okay film with some good animation, but I figured it might be worth checking out.

[up][up]Haven't had time to check that out all day. Added that to post-show.

[up]Been looking for an animated work to feature this week. I'll definitely be keeping this one in mind.

Anyway, the Hoe Bus is rolling, and we'll be getting set for the one and only Arnold Schwarzenegger in The Last Action Hero.

Remember, that's starting up at 7:30 PM (EDT)!!!

It's still so sad. Some of Wes Craven's biggest movies—The Hills Have Eyes, A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Serpent and the Rainbow, Scream, even his executive producer credit on Wishmaster, which we just saw last week—are what got me so hooked on horror in my early teens in the first place.

His lesser known film Deadly Blessing, which our group consensus bestowed a [awesome][awesome] a few months back, was also a hell of a treat just to notice the bridging transition between his early movies and, ultimately, direct influence on Elm Street (bathtub scenes).

Anyway, Do you know what 'Nemesis' Means?

From the director of Urban Menace (before his career was reduced to making garbage like Urban Menace and he was making much more exciting stuff, like Secundus from 'Abraxas' shot to shit by an old lady) comes the sequel to the movie where... Secundus from 'Abraxas' is shot to shit by an old lady. Here is... Nemesis 2: Nebula.

Anyway, time now for Part 1 of the conclusion to The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.

Then, at the top of the coming hour, we finally get to the second chapter of Albert Pyun's "Humans vs. Cyborgs" saga. The battle for humanity to avoid enslavement to machines continues in Nemesis 2: Nebula.

My dad joined late, but did remark on the lead woman's muscles (after initially mistaking her for Bo Derek), and then looked her up to see what other movies she'd been in.

Well, she'd also been in Nemesis 3 and Nemesis 4. :P Quite a career!

[up]All the better makings of a cult movie legend.

It's a bit surprising to learn that Sue Price never appeared in film or television outside these Nemesis sequels, but it's easily understood that her principal line of work was in bodybuilding and health & fitness training and that she still had that to fall back on when a broader acting career simply didn't pan out.

Exactly why acting didn't work out for her, though, is a bit of a mystery. It could be that she couldn't find more principal character roles after Albert Pyun gave her a chance; it could be she simply didn't think acting was the right fit for herself (or that she wasn't happy with shooting on location for lengthy stretches of time, while Albert Pyun was filming all three of her movies in seemingly one continuous, very extensive shoot); it could also be that she wanted to focus on being a loving mother and raising her two children.

The one other thing I've noticed is that a stub page on Wikipedia lists her height at 5'0". Last night's movie definitely made her appear a lot taller, if that's accurate.

Anyway, tonight we're in for a hell of a hokey treat. Actual IMDb plot synopsis reads as follows...

An archaeologist from 1000 years in the future uncovers a romance novel written in our time. Curious, he journeys back to find out about this thing called "love" from the novel's author.

Here is... The wonderfully titled My Future Boyfriend

My Future Boyfriend is a man from the 32nd century, a time in which everyone is on the autism spectrum. Social norms, musical tastes and food preferences have changed to fit their sensory sensitivites and distinctive style of learning and thinking.

At least, that's my takeaway from this movie which I found surprisingly entertaining.

Pax's autism symptoms?

  • Sensory sensitivities. Specifically, his sense of taste is unusually strong.
  • He is very literal. VERY.
  • He is both very formal and direct.
  • He listens to music only to calm himself. No, that's not a common autism symptom, but I know one autistic who prefers music that won't stick in her head and is entirely atmospheric, so I can see this happening.
  • Related to the above, he bobs his head very inappropriately and awkwardly to music of a genre that doesn't exist in his time.
  • He doesn't understand love and sex.
  • He displays a lack of emotional range.
  • His social skills are ass. Of course, this could be chalked up to future social skills being very different, but if that's the case, it's interesting to see what "future social skills" are.

This is portrayed as normal for the 32nd century. Therefore, the only conclusion I can come to is that my people have taken over, and the autism spectrum is now the norm. evil grin

At one point, the soundtrack very heavily drowned out the dialog. Idiotic sound mixing. Who the hell lets that slip?!

I also gotta love how this is a made-for-TV movie from ABC Family. ABC Family. It had some interesting ideas of what was "family" friendly. Though from what I hear, the word "Family" in the title is just an Artifact Title and nothing more.

It was a family channel - in fact, The Family Channel - when Pat Robertson owned it. Not so much now...

They're still required to air "The 700 Club", but that's not exactly family friendly either. Or viewer friendly in general.

I think it really sucks how channels with very specific names don't stay what they're about. I know, money and all that. But it still looks awful to see A&E turn into crap, TLC change from "The Learning Channel" to whatever the hell they are now, and everything just become a shell of its former self as they seek that money, wherever the money is now.

No company seems to have a long-term goal anymore.

And I do mean that. (An exaggeration, but I mean the sentiment) I'd been reading various editorials, some dating back to 2010, about how chasing short-term profits has been harming not only companies, but the economy in general. In their zeal to kiss shareholder ass and give them a profitable quarter (set of 3 months), they throw long-term goals away. Shareholders carry stock for an average of 11 months before selling them. CEO turnover in general is high - they tend to stay only a few years at any given company. You simply cannot guarantee that any company will be in 5 years what they are now. It kills trust in companies, but companies don't even care - reputation was once a form of currency, but long-term reputation isn't what shareholders want. They just want money right NOW. Then they sell their stock and move on once they're convinced the money isn't going to come.

It's shaping many things, but to go into detail would be going really off-topic. Suffice to say that TV companies, movie companies, networks, publishing companies, etc. that have a goal, mission statement or image of some sort could just as easily lose it in 5 or 10 years and be something totally different.
