Hilarious, perhaps, but gorgeous? No. Borderline ugly, and that's not talking before you get used to it.

@Lyendith Hatshepsut is actually a real female pharaoh name.

Also, nobody mentioned Yugo The Negotiator. Which tell the story of Yugo Beppu, a professional negotiator dealing with difficult stuff. If you can negotiate with Taliban leader that pretty much hate you on principle and itching to shot you on spot, you know you're good.

Oh no, Jitsu wa truly has some gorgeous pages in serious scenes. Masuda and his team know their stuff. You can't see a page like this, this, this or this and seriously say it's "ugly". Not to mention the untranslated late chapters.

How to Make an Invisible Man and Sakura Discord probably gives a better idea of his non-comical style though (although they're earlier works).

[up] I know it's a real name, I just found it really cool. =3

…A manga with Talibans? Huh…

The later spreads is what I'm talking about. Artist really gets good at playing around with lighting and perspective.

To each their own, me guesses. You won't buy into those spreads if you hate the current art direction. Personally I liked the art day one. I also like the sameface Jojo era, and the first episodes of Steven Universe, which make me all wrong all the time.

Art can be a make or break. I was initially put off by One Piece's at style when I first saw it, but now I can enjoy it and OP is my #1 favorite.

[up]All I know now is that the girl on the cover art on the MAL page is adorable as hell.

Hey everyone, Love and Lies is getting an anime.

"Lies are forbidden and love is doubly forbidden. In the near future, when young people in Japan turn sixteen, they are assigned a marriage partner by the government. People don't have to go through the trouble of looking for someone, and everyone accepts that the country will find a compatible partner to make them happy. Yukari Nejima is fifteen years old. He lives in a small corner of the country, and just can't seem to get ahead in life. Both academically and athletically he's below average. But in within him, he hides a heart burning with passion! In this world in which love is forbidden, what will happen to him when he falls in love?"

It's a dumb setup, and the plot hits the kind of beats and emotional notes you'd expect from a shonen romcom. The cast is about as inoffensive; no stinkers here nor standouts. Mix that all together, you get good butterless popcorn. It isn't as offensive as it could be, and it's a good mindless munchie.

[up]I've read it. It's decent and I like the art, but the chapters are disconcertingly short. This normally wouldn't be a problem, but most short manga chapters I read are relatively self-contained yonkoma, not full-on plot points.

As for Shirogane no Nina, it's the story about a guy who comes back to his parents' rural home following a rough time in Tokyo. However, his sister (who'd married a Western person, Norwegian if I remember correctly), gives him the task of babysitting her daughter, and therefore the man's niece, Nina, while she's away. While it's obviously sweet and sentimental, it's surprisingly informative about culture in the Japanese countryside, like what food people typically eat, the education, and the many festivals they celebrate.

EDIT: Norway Scans got to me. Nina's father was Finnish.

Got what it's worth, we have pages for both Love & Lies and Shirogane no Nina. The latter could use some Wiki Magic, too.

I've read some of both, bit haven't followed up on either recently. I think the short chapters for L&L are just a side effect of where it's published. A good number of series on Mangabox are like that iirc.

I can't imagine there being enough material for a Black General anime already, unless they're planning on making it a short little run of 10 minute episodes.

And yeah, Girl Gohan is a guilty pleasure for me as well. Though the long nails are really off-putting. Dislike them in real life, but for some reason I dislike them even more in drawn form.

Eroge no Taiyou: A young manager with a hard-nosed work ethic gets framed in a scandal and forced onto the streets. Cold and desperate, his luck changes with the arrival of game developer, who takes him under her wing to an all-female company that makes... H-games. Everyone is very blunt about what they do, the company itself is teetering on bankruptcy, and to his shock and horror, eroge development standards are absurdly loose, even in comparison to the stormy stuff you would hear from mainstream games. Still, he has nowhere else to go, and he can't help but believe in this failing company...

It's overly dramatic, but a clear case of Shown Their Work: the author was a former developer, and adds his own comments on the process in the narrator's boxes. For example, one near-completed project is almost rendered for naught because it catered to too many fetishes, therefore having no focus. The author points out that he made such a game, and it failed miserably upon release. So how did the manager solve the problem? Turn all the characters into futas.

I find it genuinely hilarious, which is why it is so tragic that it hasn't updated in over two years. There are already forty chapters in existence, but there aren't even any raw scans (thank you, jCafe). Translators, anyone, please for the love of god somebody pick it back up.

[up][up] Apparently the anime is only for a newly released phone app, and there are only 10 episodes with 3 minutes each.

I stumbled into something called Hatsukoi Body a while ago. I can only describe it as "reverse ecchi". The plot is about a 4th grade girl who is in love with her high-schooler neighbour...mainly because he's in a judo club and has very nice muscular body. Expect plenty of gratuitous shots of exposed men's chests or just straight up Shirtless Scene. Only two chapters so far though.

So, Ane Naru Mono had the translation for its ninth chapter released recently... and in it, Chiyo's Berserk Button is mashed by a mosquito biting and sucking Yuu's blood. [lol] It was so funny, seeing her state her desire to drive every single mosquito species in the world to extinction.

Oh, and for some reason spiderwebs feel really creepy when her human form gets tangled in them. Poor Shub-Niggurath, dealing with an unexpected downside to assuming A Form You Are Comfortable With.

Having spent time in Taiwan and experiencing the love and joy of Tiger Mosquitoes, I really, really want to say fuck 'em... but yeah, it's good that Chiyo was held back.

Komi-san updated too. It really is a joy to see that cat-like, thousand-yard jittery stare once more.

Shirogane No Nina was cute, adorable, and easy to eyes. Art is simple, but expressive. Also, everyone was precious. I like Nina's friends, very... kids.

[up]Hell yeah, another one out of the woodwork.

Seito Kaichou Desu ga Josou Hajimemashita: A 4-koma romcom. A high school girl is depressed for having no friends of the same gender to relate to, so much so that when a guy confessed to her, she said she'd rather have a "girl" friend instead and ran away at the spur of the moment. So, when a beautiful girl approaches her one day, asking to be her friend, she was naturally over the moon about it... until the "girl" trips and passes out, loosening the wig - it was the same boy who confessed, the Student Council President. He took her words rather literally, and what's more, he's a space case; if it weren't for his inner thoughts, the reader would think he isn't trying to keep his cross-dressing a secret at all. He's not even aware that the girl already knows.

On the other hand, the girl genuinely appreciates his efforts, and wants to keep his secret safe so they can continue being friends. Because by golly, "she" isn't going to make it any easier.

[up][up][up] Komi-san updated? <checks> OMG seven new chapters??? Why isn't the new Manga Traders site being updated with the 20+ chapters already?!

... Anyway, just finished Chapter 25. I absolutely love how Komi utterly destroyed Yamai at the end just with a single, short, politely-worded rejection. "I will decide my friends myself" sums so much.

Omujo! Omutsu Joshi is a romantic comedy in which yer usual bored high school protagonist discovers his classmate wears diapers and pees herself when she gets aroused or nervous. It's ...interesting rather than good.

From what I know of the author, I think the series is a Bleached Underpants scenario. A possibly ironic name, given the content.

Just picked up Komi-san because I got some time over.

"I will decide my friends myself," is one of the most awesome sentences I've read in a long while. And repetition. And then she actually answered. Vocally.
