"Wow!" Marcus said cheerfully. "You have played this game before! That's funny...

(*Cue Marcus's theme "Always a plan"*)

Suddenly the idiotic grin faded away, to be replaced by a cold smile.

"...Because normally the aim of the game is not to lose. I activate Mirror Force!!

The whip rebounded on the air itself and pierced the insectoid, shattering first its skull and then its entire body in a birght flash of light.

The light faded, and Gretel gave a sick smile.

"Better, Marcus, better! But is a pathetic, all-purpose card really all you can use? Any child could have made that move!"

She lowered her arm, daring him to continue.

"Show me your true ability. Come on, I dare you."

End Turn!

Marcus sighed before offering Gretel another small smile. Except this one wasn't mocking. It wasn't even silly.

...It was pitying.

"Just as I thought." he said sadly. "Alien Hypno, you know what to do."

The alien creature nodded and leapt forward.

The reptilian creature contorted oddly, and its holographic fingers stretched until they struck Gretel in the stomach, knocking her back.

Gretel — 8000 —> 6400 LP

When the monster retreated, however, her head remained bowed, and a dark chuckle rang out.

"A slow and weak counterattack, Marcus. Are you really enough of an idiot to think I would throw my monster at a face-down without having a little insurance?"

A purple-black aura surrounded her, swathing her in darkness and throwing twisted shadows across the floor. Then, her head snapped back up with murder in her eyes.

"When I take Battle Damage from an attack, I can Special Summon from my hand this monster! The great fiend, Tragoedia!"

She placed the card on her Duel Disk, and the unearthly shadow detached itself from her to for a hideous, many-legged spider-demon-thing to form on the field. As if her true self had entered the Duel.

Tragoedia — 600 DEF

Marcus laughed out loud.

"Hahahahaha!! I thank you Gretel, truly I do! Now before you get ahead of yourself, remember that I still have one more Main Phase left, which I will use to Gemini Summon Alien Hypno, activating it's special ability."

The bizzare frogman was suddenly wreathed in a shimmering blue aura.

"Now, because that counts as a normal summon, I can special summon Alien Dog in attack mode!"

A glowing portal appeared above Alien Hypno, out of which leapt a canine reptile. suddenly, two fleshy globs shot out from the creatures back and attached themselves to Tragoedia.

"When Alien Dog is special summoned in this manner, I can place two A-counters on any face up monsters you have on the feild. Which then allows me to use Alien Hypno's special ability to take control of your monster.

The twisted monstrosity fixed its eyes on Hypno, and the bizarre alien wove and writhed until the demon had knelt strangely before it, wavering from side to side under its new master.

Gretel smiled in the same way. Finally, the daft little idiot had stopped playing around!

"Very well. And, what now? You have no graveyarded monsters to use his effect with, and only a single, lonely hand-card powering him up."

Still brazen, still arrogant.

"Absolutely nothing, your move!"

One of the fleshy blobs on Trgoedia's back dissolved.

"Oh, and since you've apparently gone blind, I'll let you know that I have in fact: TWO cards in my hand."

Tragoedia DEF: 1200

I started out with five cards, and drew another on my first turn. (I went second.) Bringing me up to six. Then I played four of them (Mirror Force, Aline Hypno, "A" Cell Breeding Device, Cell Explosion Virus) bringing me down to two. On my next turn, I drew and played Planet Pollutant Virus, leaving me with two cards remaining in hand. And on my last turn, I drew and played Alien Dog. Leaving me with two cards in hand.

This is it. Can I do it?

Daniel had his head down, a faint smile barely visible on his face. Suddenly, he thrusts his hand into the air.

"I tune Level 7 Infernity General with Level 1 Infernity Avenger!" The gun-wielding figure transforms into a single green ring, allowing the armored figure to pass through it.

"Clustering hopes shall become a new shining star!" As he said this, a single pillar of light appeared behind him. "This is the power..." The pillar behind him began to grow even bigger. "...of the Synchros! Shine your light, Stardust Dragon!" With a snap of his fingers, the pillar dissipated, and in it's place was a great dragon of milky white color. (2500/2000)

Gretel examined the card she drew next, glancing to her Set card and the only other one in her hand.

Maybe... No. This one, I'm sending to the wire.

Marcus gave her that same pitying stare.

"Such a shame. If only you'd drop the act, maybe you'd be a decent opponent. But I can already tell that's not going to happen. Now! Full Scale Assualt!!

Gretel only raised her hand, lifting a card out of it.

"Such a shame. To forget what monsters lurk in my deck... I Special Summon Gagaga Gardna from my hand, in Defense Position!"

Once more, the loyal soldier jumped out and hefted his massive shield between the oncoming onslaught of monsters and his master.

Marcus life: 7600—> 7400

Marcus chuckled slowly.

"My my, your grasp of logic is truly astounding. As is your lack of imagination. Alien Overlord is but a mere pawn to me. He is nothing compared to the true power that lurks in my deck. Sadly, that isn't a card you get to see today. But I will show you one of our swords. GO!! SWORDS OF REVEALING LIGHT!!."

"Now, I discard Alien Hypno, in order to activate Tragoedia's special ability, allowing me to take control of Gagaga Gardna!"

With those moves completed, The final A-counter explodded, coating Tragoedia in acid.

"My..." Marcus said as he watched the spectacle of Gretel's soul card screaming as it's face began to melt. Liquid flesh pouring on the floor. "Quite the appropriate metaphor wouldn't you agree."

He cut her off before she could speak. his voice dropping to a low menacing tone as he finally allowed his cold anger to seep through.

"No. Don't bother answering. Allow me to explain so that even your shallow mind can comprehend. First of all, you seem to be operating under the assumption that your card is special, important. It is not. Like you yourself, this card is nothing more than a tool to be manipulated and discarded at will. You see, my dear, deluded child, You go through your life always trying to be the best, to be the queen. But have you ever tied to actually better yourself? No. like this... card" His voice dripped with contempt as he said the last word "of your's, you have no true strength of your own, you survive on the praise of others, clinging to it like a parasite, a leech.

He grinned as he saw Gretel's expression as she watched her own soul card screaming in agony as it burned beneath it's own rotted flesh.

"Three times today I gave you the chance to prove yourself. Three times today I gave you the chance to look beyond your own ego. And Three. Times. Today, you have dissapointed me.

His voice was barely more than a whisper, but the sheer intensity of his words burned into her mind over even the sound of her soul cards screaming.

"Do you honestly believe that this game is about which move is the flashiest? Are you honestly so clueless, so pathetically NAIVE that you think that any move, any opponent can be underestimated?"

He stared at her, his eyes boring into her's as he watched the sight of Tragoedia's torture reflected in them.

"You're a fool, child. and like the monster you hold in such a delusionally high esteem, you have no greater future than to be broken and discarded until you rot."

He smiled cruely, staring deep into her eyes as Tragoedia let out one final, peircing shriek of agony as it dissolved into a puddle of rotted flesh, Creating a hellish crescendo to his damning words.

"My turn is now concluded, so you had damn better show me something amazing."

Caramon gaped at Markus' transformation. This guy had seemed so...harmless, out of it, and now he was attempting to destroy Gretel's psyche. Not that she didn't deserve it, her attitude had quickly seen to his opinion of her, but this....this seemed a touch over the top. He certainly wasn't sure if she necessarily deserved a tongue-lashing that severe. Still, it might do her good. Maybe.

Peter wandered into the area just in time to catch the end of Marcus' speech.

Hmm. He wasn't sure exactly what was going on, but he remembered how annoying that guy had been during their duel. And the jerk seemed to be winning right now…

Well, enemy of an enemy, he supposed, leaning against a wall to watch, hoping the girl would turn things around.

Justin blinked at the scene he had randomly wandered into. That girl he had been watching duel earlier was now fighting Marcus. And Marcus sounded rather pissed for some reason. What the hell had happened? Looked like they'd attracted quite the crowd, too...

Jacques sat at his desk in his room, staring at the cards thrown across it. His old deck was letting him down. In front of crowds, he was sitting at a 1/3 winning ratio. Taking a moment, he grabbed all the cards on the table, shuffled them then dealt them out face-down. Maybe Fate is real... I guess I might as well try...

Closing his eyes, Jacques shut out the rest of the world. Fate, if you exist, give me a sign. Let me know where I go from here. Teach me how to let go and become stronger... Almost without conscious thought, Jacques reached out his hand a picked a solitary card off the table and flipped it. He slowly opened his eyes to see what this concept of Fate had gotten him.

The boy grinned. It seemed so simple and straightforward now! It wasn't the card itself, but the meaning built into it. The steel-winged creature seemed to look deep into the theif's soul. If it could rise from the ashes, so would Jacques. He would be a new person; he wouldn't let his past dictate him but he wouldn't deny it either. He had to evolve, much like the machines. Just like Peter said...

Jacques felt a pang of guilt, he had let his past take over him. Returning his focus back to the table he made his decision; he would make a new deck tonight and apologize to both Peter and Gretel tomorrow.

However, three cards had fallen under the table when Jacques had hastily grabbed up his cards. Machine King Prototype could not reach out to his former master. As such, it turned off until its master called it once more.

Denero aloud himself a small smile, while starring down at the note pad, clearly something the alien guy had said had snapped meteor out of its mope.

Back huh? Did something he said inspire you

O shut up Denero, like you don’t know why I’m back, this insect gets lucky with one trap and feels he can talk down to a stronger person, granted she should be ashamed that she let it get this far, but I can’t sit idly by and watch the weak thing they’re strong

You’re……. You’re not going to do anything drastic, are you?

With this rubbish you call a deck, no, for now we wait and give the girl a chance to put him in his place, for now get back to work, if I'm to crush this fool, I need stronger cards

What the hell is going on in there? Daniel thought after overhearing some rather serious stuff coming from the room over. He soon snapped himself back to what is in front of him. Focus, you have your own duel here.

"You should have stopped me while you had the chance, Sigmund. Now Stardust Dragon can protect itself and my entire field from destruction." After Synchro Summoning with a card that he previously thought useless, Daniel was becoming quite confident about his duel.

He snaps his fingers toward Sigmund's facedown Monster, signalling the attack. "Now witness the power of the stars! Stardust Dragon, attack his facedown Monster with Cosmic Flare!"

The dragon tossed it's head back and a ball of bright white fire gathered in it's maw. It then thrust it's head forward as a ray of fire shot out of it's mouth straight towards the facedown card.

Caramon groaned and grabbed at his head for a moment. What the...how did....he couldn't have gotten a headache this quickly. That didn't happen, and even the ones that could be called momentary didn't hurt quite this much.

A moment later, the pain completely faded away leaving him frowning in confusion. That was....odd, to say the slightest. But unless it happened again, he saw no reason to worry about it. He turned his attention back to the duel, the sudden headache quickly leaving his mind.

He turned back to Daniel "See I knew about stardust dragon's effect so I prepared something in advance." He chuckled "Now this is going to be a long chain potentially. I activate Mirror Force! I'm guessing your useing stardust's effect?" He laughed this could be very intresting indeed.

The card flipped up "See with this card I can negate one monster's effect when it activates and destroy the monster but I have to discard one card and I'll discard Dark Crusader! And when your stardust is destroyed it won't return during the end phase as it didn't go to the graveyard by his own effect." He laughed once more "I love chains!"
