Ten year? Bloody hell, I'll be old.

Well, let's see.

Career:

First of all, I want to finish my Ph D. Then go for two or three postdocs, traveling the world some more and proving interesting stuff, for five/six more years. Then I want to get a permanent position in some university — somewhere warm, if at all possible — and keep doing more of the same. Basically, I just want to travel around and learn cool stuff.

I wouldn't mind branching a little in different fields too — I have a few ideas, but it's gonna take time to see what works and what doesn't.

I'd also like to write a popular science book at some point; but we will see.

Relationships:

While my career plans are rather defined, and quite frankly I'm really happy with them, romance-wise I simply have no clue. Whatever happens happens, I suppose. Eventually, I'd like a family and so on; but we'll see. I'm not making this a priority right now, but things might change.

But they seem to know where they are going, the ones who walk away from Omelas.

Right now the only thing that's a set-in-stone thing that I pretty much have to do should we stick together (fingers crossed) is meet pdam in meatspace at some point. Also hopefully university and getting some novels finished and published.

I guess we could go... wherever we please.

I will have taken over the antiques business from my parents, and will likely be running that unless I've decided it really isn't what I want to do. It probably will be, but then again ten years is a long time and a lot of things can happen.

Stupid doomed timeline...

I'm going to be a recluse once I get out of college. I will get a job, but only to survive. I will not get married nor have contact with my family or any other people outside of necessity. I will find a nice little isolated spot where I will live with a few cats and/or rabbits. They will be my only Real Life friends. I will have a computer with Internet access and good writing software. It will be my main source of entertainment. I will spend my days in peace and quiet, doing whatever I feel like doing, with no one to annoy me or hurt me.

Go to college. Finish college. Start a band. Act in a movie(any movie as long as it's not porn). Write more than 5 books. Get through at least 2 relationships; only after wil I decide whether I want to stay single forever or marry. Eat a fried bug(optional).

Quite a few things to do for myself unfortunately.

  • Get college done.
  • Get a job.

That much is certain... Not sure if I'll be at Canada within 10 years...

I hope to have some sort of success with my music, at least as a songwriter or at least maybe on some indie label. I at least want to get a band together, but I can't find a drummer...

Career Plan: Get a History Degree and move onto a PHD specialising in Early Modern History (Hopefully both at York), not sure what in EMH but I might go with Thirty Years War period, thereabouts. After that I want to be a documentary presenter for a company, doing Historical research as well as presenting History in general. I could become a Professor and lecturer in History also, as a more solid job.

Relationship plan: What happens, happens I suppose. I intend on having a family though.

My ten-year plan would be to introduce two five-year plans to increase the output of steel and coal and the industrial sector!

My driving ambition is to become a novelist, and I'm currently about thirty-five pages into the manuscript of a work I hope to sumbit for publication in the comparatively near future. The publishing world is Byzantine and capricious, however, so many of my plans involve not being wholly dependent upon success in the realm of fiction.

Graduate school is definitely on the menu, as is finally getting some proper work experience and hopefully landing a secure job that utilizes creative or writing-based skills in some manner or other. I haven't the foggiest idea where I'll be living, but I have toyed with the idea of relocating to a major city for a change of pace. It would be fun if I were well-off enough to be a culture vulture, but if not, I always have my favourite books, movies, and whatever fine cuisine I can prepare for myself. To say nothing of the Internet, of course. What more entertainment could one desire?

I haven't the foggiest where I might be romantically, as I very much take the view that good relationships only happen when several external conditions align, and that trying to make a relationship happen all by one's self is consequently difficult to the point of impossibility. If a long-term relationship DOES happen, that would be fantastic, though. And my growing love of theatre has the potential to alter many of these plans somewhat, I admit, though the manner in which it will do so is unclear at present.

In ten years I'll still probably be here. Hopefully by then I'll be an artist or a writer (or both).

Everything is a lie.
