Rape Trope renames.

I'm downvoting the ones which are speicifically about the rapist or victim using it, as it can be either.

I closed the crowner. We do not need any articles with the word 'rape' in the title.

Does that mean renames, or blanket cuts? If the latter, does that mean the wiki no longer considers rape tropable?

Yep. Rape is no longer trope-able.

And things like Mind Rape? It's not actually about rape.

Yeah. Be careful not to wipe every trope with rape in the title, unless you want us to start some tropes like Mind Rape from scratch with a new name.

I understand why you're wiping Rape Tropes, though. They're a disaster waiting to happen.

edit: It still would be preferable to whip the community into shape so that serious subjects like rape could be discussed maturely, but as far as damage control goes, this isn't bad.

Couldn't we just turn all the rape tropes into locked stubs? I have no idea what google's complaint was, so maybe that's off the table, but "No, if you even mention rape, we won't let you get money from our ads" seems extreme.

Uh...woah. Does google not allow romance novels, R rated movies, fantasy novels, YA fiction etc?

We are talking only about tropes so far. Not works.

I know, I'm just saying that these tropes are in a wide variety of fiction, and often move much of the plot.

Well, if it's that important to a work, maybe you can write up something about how it is on the Analysis subpage.

As far as I can tell, Animeg is saying that people will try to get around it by censoring "rape" and by shoving stuff onto other pages in misuse of those namespaces. Personally, I think he's wrong, but eh.

I really don't like this as it feels wrong to get rid of tropes used so often in media (not to mention the erasure factor), but I can't do anything about it.

But this isn't censorship of rape in fiction, it's just getting rid of the rape tropes, which reflect poorly on us because of No Negativity.

Acting like this is some kind of great offense is kind of weird, and pretty immature, to be honest. It'simply the sensible thing to do given the circumstances.

My mistake. But still, the pages were kind of tasteless IMO. I'd rather they were rewritten instead of removed, but this isn't that bad either.

No Negativity applies to works, not tropes. We are allowed to mention when a trope has Unfortunate Implications, has a Double Standard, etc, and we did in all those cases.

I just checked, and we've lost Attempted Rape too? That's just...we need more feedback on this.

How is it tasteless to point out that fiction (and society in general) has a huge double standard when it comes to any rape that isn't male on female?

Please, don't put words in my mouth. I'm not trying to start an argument. Especially not one where I'm being misrepresented.

Anyway, it's not so much the titles ( Actually, I wasn't fond of many of the titles. For instance, the subject of the crowned below. ) or subjects of the tropes, but the way the articles were written and the examples listed on the pages.

Also, I didn't like the fact that people actually shouted down the suggestion of a trigger warning on a page once.

But again, these are just my opinions.

So EVERY Rape Trope is now verboten, by order of Fast Eddie? Even though rape is undeniably a part of fiction, and happens in a lot of fictional works, even those that are not porn or pedo-pandering? Even when it is the driving force of a plot?

I am loath to invoke What the Hell, Hero? on a real-life person, but at this point, nothing else seems appropriate. Really, WHAT THE HELL?!

I disagree. All those pages had been the subject of a massive clean-up effort. All of them had multiple people, including mods, go over the examples and remove all of the creepiness. We even renamed all the ones that could potentially be misunderstood as condoning rape. They were pretty damn clean.
