Metroid Prime Corruption. It was a great game, I loved the graphics and the soundtrack but for some reason, I kinda got bored with it quickly.

Tomb Raider Anniversary. It was too hard and the gameplay wasn't for me.

[up][up] No surprise. However, I got disappointed with Fallout 3 in the second half of the storyline. When you get the GECK, the game just... jumps to conclusions without much of a closure.

Devil May Cry 3.

Nothing to really say about the gameplay, it was the first game, which I liked, with some bells and whistles *

.

I just couldn't like the characters, When it started, I thought Dante was funny, if not dorkishly uncool (which I'm sure is the point), but as the game went on he kinda just got on my nerves. Lady is supposed to be sympathetic (by the end anyways, I guess), but she kinda rubbed me the wrong way by trying to kill Dante every time she showed up, without even knowing if he was a human or a demon or good or bad, etc.. The villains didn't carry any weight and weren't threatening to me due to the fact that I fought and beat them both numerous times throughout the game and it's a prequel, so they obviously lose.

Another problem I had was that after the first time Dante and Vergil fight, on top of the tower, everything between that and the final battle felt like padding to make the game longer.

And finally, it was over the top to the point of being stupid to me.

*

Saints Row 2.

I was told the things that everyone usually says or hears like how it's like GTA 4 (whicj I loved) except better/more crazy/etc., but I tried it at a friends house and got bored with it after about 20 minutes and turned it off.

Donkey Kong Country Returns.

While I do appreciate the (staggering) amount of creativity that went into the level design, I just didn't like it as much as I thought I would. My main problem with the game was with the overuse of certain elements, such as the mine cart and rocketbarrel levels. It doesn't help that most of the levels using the rocket were among the most difficult for me to beat.

[up][up]The usual compliant I see is that Corruption (and Echoes, to a lesser extant) doesn't stack up to its predecessors.

  • Eufloria. Neat concept, but not enough variation in gameplay and I thought it went from "fun" to "tedious" after about ten levels.
  • Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection. Arcade games really aren't balanced to be "fair" to the player, they're balanced to make you keep feeding the machine your money, and it shows. I enjoyed the better balanced PC versions of 2, 3, Trilogy, and 4 back in the day, and the newer 3D ones that were made for home systems in the first place, but the Perfect Play A.I. of the arcade versions is no fun when it basically ignores my attacks at will. *forces self to stop before paragraph can become full-on rant*

Please don't inspire a Moe Dantes rant. I just got done posting one bad review (of Prince of Persia: the Sands of Time) and I don't really feel like writing another.

Umm yeah, Sands of Time is my latest entry on the list. Click link if want know. I should qualify though that at the time I was getting burned out on more action-focused games and leaning back towards RP Gs, so that may have slanted me somewhat.

The first Prime was great, but they got into a decline with each game. Corruption is a good game, but it barely holds a candle to the game that brought Metroid into 3D. And let's not get into Other M.

Disgaea 2.

The voice actor for the Healer did not suit my tastes. I liked her better when her voice wasn't so nasaly.

That's....pretty much the only reason.

oh, and Left 4 Dead 2.

Why? Hard Rain. Just didn't feel right, didn't feel very zombieish.

Final Fantasy 4 was the first JRPG I played. The soundtrack was amazing, and everybody called it the the greatest game of all time and stuff.

Got killed by random encounter monsters within the first 10 minutes of playing the game. Twice. I didn't know how to save either, so I had to go through the long intro sequence again. Third try I managed to make it to the first boss, but I was barely alive then. Didn't have money for items or anything. My attacks were pitiful. At that moment I realized FF 4 was a grinding game. Never played it ever again after that.

Actually FF 4 doesn't require that much grinding.

I feel your pain though... the first time I played JRP Gs (mine were 4, 6, and Mystic Quest) I had a very similar experience. Almost swore off the whole genre.

@Mr W - the first Prime is the only Metroid Prime I've played.

Pikmin 2. I love Pikmin and all but this is brutal. I'm replaying it right now. On top of the difficulty, I also dislike Louie and that Olimar would return to the planet for profit not survival.

Even though Final Fantasy 4 is my favorite final fantasy game, I definitely remember that point of unbelievable frustration where your entire party was hopeless crap. Freaking Spoony Bard.

Dragon Age Origins. I don't know what it was about DA:O, but I couldn't stand it. I loved BG 2 and I had just finished the first Mass Effect, so I went in with eager expectations that were quickly disappointed. I think my problem was that I expected a masterpiece, when DA was just a good game.

Except I disliked most of the characters. That was a surprise since normally I like Bioware's characters, but Leliana and Alistair just irritated me pre-hardening and made me angry afterwards, and Morrigan just made me throw up my hands in disgust. She was supposed to be practical, but she came off more pointlessly vindictive; evil for its own sake. Zevran grated on my nerves.

On the other hand, Shale was awesome. Oghren wasn't bad, but he didn't do anything particularly interesting. Wynne was a good character too. And Dog was Dogmeat. grin

@Vorpy: Use the Japanese audio. Disgaea is too good to not try.

As for me...

I feel let down by Phantom Brave, admittedly. I bought it hoping for a lighter, more optimistic Disgaea. I received an absurdly complicated grind fest of random proportions.

I like my grind fests to be easy, thank you very much.

An Grim Grimoire. Interesting plot, but a wasted setting, a wasted cast, and a wasted $15. It was unrelentingly addicting for the first few hours. Then the maps never changed.

Probably the only two I still have that I don't want to return to out of near-fear of the monotony involved.

  • Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. Maybe I just hit burnout point on GTA, I dunno. The remote planes controls broke me. I'm currently really enjoying GTA 4, though - but yes, the cars handle like crap.

  • Final Fantasy 8 and 9: I burned out before finishing on those, too. Just felt like more of the same.

  • Super Mario 64: Couldn't do it. The silver lining to me getting it from the Wii channel is my son adores it.

As per the topic, those games probably don't suck, I simply burned out and didn't finish.

Kingdom Under Fire:Circle of Doom you can completely miss the story which is intitated by going to the merchant and choosing to sleep. You can go through the game and get to a point were you can't progress anymore and you'll wornder why until you go back talk to the merchant and realize you just missed half the story killing mobs.

I love the crap out of all the Metroid Prime games, but Corruption is definitely the weakest of the trilogy. I'm not sure how they managed to make a game where you're planet-hopping feel like a smaller universe than the vast expanses implied by Prime and to a lesser extend Echoes, but there you go. Still liked it, but it had a tough act to follow and didn't quite measure up.

Other M just pissed me off, though. I really wanted to like it, too, and was so excited on launch day. I don't even object to story in the series; Fusion is probably my second or third favourite Metroid game. I need to play Fusion again so I can solidify why I love its story compared to OM's, but on gameplay alone Fusion still wins.
