The Writer's Block New Year's Resolutions Thread

So in approximately 33 hours (Mountain Standard Time) 2011 will be no more and all of us will be in a new year. So the time has come for us as writers hobbyist or otherwise to make our resolutions concerning our writing for the next year.

By all means use this thread to talk about how you plan on achieving each resolution.

My resolutions:

• Actually finish the draft version of Endless Conflict. I am 2 acts through and the third act finishes up the first book.
  • Related: Get critiqued and edited once it has a complete draft to find things like errors, grammatical problems, story flow, those kinds of things. (Once that is done, publishing attempts/getting published is optional)
    • During the course of 2012 following completion of the first book begin work on the second part of the trilogy whether I'm published or not or have even tried yet.
• Upon completion of said draft, begin work on Towards the Valley of Flowers proper. Since this is more children's book than adult novel series this should take less time but I don't know if I'll finish it before the Mayan Long Count Calendar (or 2012) ends.
• Find something related to how I can begin work making a soundtrack for my works. More on that eventually.
  • Once I have something related, begin churning out tracks.

• Get the opening of my novel done and the outline for it on time to submit it to this contest. The deadline is February 17th.
• Find a more optimal way to get writing done.
• Make a new friend.
• Establish reliable schedule for blog.
• Write some of Magical Boy idea.

EDIT: Hm, fifty pages? Maximum? Do you think that aiming for about thirty pages would be fine, since that would probably be the length of the entire first act?

• Write 1000 words per day, every day, for the whole year.
• Write a novel while making it up as I go along.

• Write Midas.
• Work out the final planning for how to do Innocence Lost as an online serial novel.
• Stop doing horribly in school.
• Edit: Write Project ARCHIVE and figure out how I'm gonna publish the damn thing.

• I will finish OneTrackMind.

• I'll write the opening for my "odd-possibly-supernatural-family-in-RV" idea.

• I'll write (or at least seriously begin and post) a Pokemon fanfiction.

• I'll work on my procrastination.

• I'll try to scrounge up some motivation to actually do something.

• Get something "published" in the sense of being readable by other people, most likely online.

Pretty much that.

• Finish the first episode of Unfettered.
• Get that damn website of mine to stay up for more than a week at a time.
• Get the ARCHON Engine to alpha or even pre-beta.

• Write for at least an hour a day.
• Get done with characters and plot for current project.

• Finish my book
• Actually stick to what I want to do with the story
• Write for an hour each day

Realistic:

• Finish side story
• Finish second draft in editing
• Start third draft / second book
• Improve drawing skills
• Continue brainstorming for my other story.

Unrealistic:

• Get an actual fanbase. Of five people or so.
• Get someone to draw my story.
• Submit my first story to Dark Horse or another publishing company.

Get my settings and outlines done. Hopefully...

Complete the first draft of Powerless, and find a proofreader for it, on or before January 15th. (I'm starting today, but it's planned to be only six chapters long.)

For original works:

• I will start writing the actual stories and quit tweaking the outline. Seriously.
• I WILL learn how to end things and not have a cheesy Dance Party Ending unless it's relevant.
• I will not even think about editing until I've written at least a few pages (and it's not too hard for me to accumulate over ten pages in a week, if I don't take a million breaks).
• I WILL try not to work on five million things at once, thus splitting my focus.

For Fanfics:

• I WILL NOT let Stories that Make Baby Nervous Cry be a Dead Fic.
• Ditto with Fractured Illusions.
• I most certainly will finish Decks Fall Everyone Dies because I've invested so much writing time in it. And I will try to make it earn a place on the TV Tropes fanfic page.

  • Finish the Act I of The Flow
  • Finish the first draft of Wind and Steel.

• Fan Fiction
  • Work on Mahou Seishun Negima and cover up to the Kyoto Arc.

Write 12 works in 12 months, including 1 script and 2 novels. Publish my web serial Novel Darthwiki.Shakuras Sunset. *

Write a The Protomen fanfiction in the same style as The Protomen.

• Original Work
  • Finish my Na No Wri Mo novel, The Celestial Legend, and tweak it so it's very good, and put it up online somewhere!
  • Look over 2010's Na No Wri Mo novel, The Eyes of Truth and do the same as above.

• Fan Fiction
  • Finish the FF VI fanfic Desert Alliance, a back story fic about Locke and Edgar. (I've been writing this for about a year now in a notebook, so this should be easy!)
    • Type up this fanfic in word processing.
  • Get to work on A King's Ransom, another FF VI fanfic in which Edgar's held for ransom by thieves from Zozo.
  • Possibly restart my on-hiatus project, Radiant Dreamers, an AU back story fic about Kingdom Hearts's Braig and Xehanort.

That's a lot of story I have to get writing.

• Continue the clean-up of my main work and make actual progress.
• Write at least 20 pages of script for my comic joke project.

You have to let me know if you succeed. I would read the living hell out of it.

I'm trying to set goals rather than resolutions, but I guess they're the same thing?

• Fan Fic: I have a find a way to wrap this all up.

• Original Fic: Complete a salable manuscript for a novel.

Writing.

More of it.

• Write 300k
• Draw every day
• Finish first ten chapters of Timekeeper

Hmm...

• Complete my first drafts of my Visual Novel sort of work (Tentative Name: DReality) by the end of the year. It's a huge project, working with Schitzo as we make the outlines of the project.
• Finalize my fantasy story (Tentative Name: The Poem of Jordis) before school starts again in July and post info on my Livejournal or my other blog.
• Get better in my writing skills.
• Make more friends in TV Tropes.
• Avoid straying away from my current projects and then working on new ones. It has become a bad habit for years now...
