We're going to appoint people in each of the subforums to welcome newbies in by an automated PM and show them how things work in the particular subforum.
The appointment thing is so that at least one person knows it is their job, and so the newbie doesn't get buried under a PM onslaught the first time they post.
We will give the appointee (now called Heralds) a spiffy icon badge so people will know they are on the job for everybody. There will also be access to a report that shows who is new in the subforum.
If you want to apply for the position, all you have to do is post a welcome draft here. That way, a moderator will consider you. If someone else has already applied for the position, don't worry! Multiple people can apply for one subforum.
This is a list of the heralds that have already been appointed and the subforums that still need heralds.
Open sections with inactive heralds:
- Betsyandthe Five Avengers — World Building
- Ori Doodle — Old Folks Home
- Cyto Zytokine — New Media
- Totemic Hero — Webcomics
- JHM — Music
- Parable — On-Topic Conversations
- GastonRabbit — Content Violation Discussions

Indeed.
No one can say Eddie doesn't care about the place, that's for sure.
go ahead and do every stupid thing you can imagineYou called it, Blixty...I don't always agree with the man, but I don't have to. Cheers to our Fearless Leader; he's sometimes wrong but never in doubt!

go ahead and do every stupid thing you can imagineThanks, all.
Welcomebot is hooked up for Yack Fest. We'll let Blixty be a guinea pig for a little bit. If no problems crop up, I'll install the heraldic stuff we have so far.
Note spiffy heraldic horn for Blixty when in Yack Fest.

Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyWhee.
Though if I could make a suggestion you may want to move it to the other side of my name, since as is it covers up the post number (which is no big detriment, just a thought).
I like it though. :3
edit: If it's going to glitch out the forum moving it, then don't worry about it. It was just a suggestion. All I know is that for a brief moment all of Yack Fest was numbers.

Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyIf it's acceptable to cover more than one subforum (is it?), I can take FAQ, too, as Special Efforts isn't a particularly busy subforum.
Thank you. I'll drop by Writer's Block Daily to explain the horn.
Double post, but since Forum Heralds are the only users to get icons next to their handles, shouldn't shimaspawn and Willbyr receive similar treatment? Perhaps this◊ icon?
And while we're at it, we should mark moderators and admins. It doesn't really make sense for the lowest "special" users to be the only ones sporting a badge in their main sub-forum.

Mods should have an awesomebadge next to their name. (this—> )
And Fast Eddie should have an iron fist, similar to the one he rules with.
go ahead and do every stupid thing you can imagineOr a lampshade, considering that's apart of the site's logo.
Unless someone's willing to design badges, we should draw from existing icons.

Good point.
In seriousness though, a lampshade totally works.
Do it Eddie, you know you want to.
go ahead and do every stupid thing you can imagineSince shima and I are more tech support than anything, I think a wrench icon would be more apropos.
That likely would. We spend most of our time hooking and unhooking crowners and doing the tech things to keep threads flowing.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickHow about this one, then:
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Oooh, I like that one.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickDesign and colors debatable of course.◊
Programming and surgery have a lot of things in common: Don't start removing colons until you know what you're doing.Either that or: the wrench/screwdriver icon for shima and I, a silver shield for the mods, and a gold shield (possibly with an A on it) for Eddie and Janitor. The former would probably be more eye-catching, the latter wouldn't take up as much space.
Popping in to say that I like that a lot.
go ahead and do every stupid thing you can imagineWell, here's a draft for the FAQ PM:
Frequently Asked Question is the place for most of the administrative threads. It can also be used to post questions; however, the primary spot for wiki policy and technical maintenance questions is Wiki Talk, and the primary spot for general questions (know-how, etiquette, etc.) is Ask The Tropers.
This subforum contains a lot of threads with important and/or useful information; the following is a quick run-down of some of the most important.
"THE FORUM RULES" details the rules governing not just this subforum, but the rest of the forum as well. I highly recommend reading them before posting. "Image Changin' Etiquette", "When To Rename A Trope", and "How To Fix A Trope" contain guidelines for the Image Pickin' (IP) and Trope Repair Shop (TRS) subforums. If you have an edit that needs to be done on a locked page, request it in "Edit request for a locked page". "Forgot my password!" is the place to go if you need your password reset. "Made Of Forum Win" is the thread for posting funny or awesome moments from around the forum, so that other people can appreciate them, too.
And last but not least, the "Edit banned/Suspended - would like to edit again." thread. If you have been suspended from editing the wiki, this is the place to go to talk about and appeal your suspension. Note that a suspension is not a high level punishment; suspensions generally mean "we need to talk about some issue", and are used to make the message unavoidable. (If you have not been suspended, you cannot post in the thread; it is for mods and those who are suspended only.)
Have a nice day!
Did I miss anything?

Do we have a guide for OTC yet? If not, I totally volunteer.
"Shit, our candidate is a psychopath. Better replace him with Newt Gingrich."Here. Although you could still volunteer if you want to; Eddie has said, "Multiple volunteers for a subforum is cool. Best draft wins, most likely."
Going to add my voice to the thank-yous; ladies and gentlemen, our boss (a family man) working on Christmas Eve for no pay.
