We're going to appoint people in each of the subforums to welcome newbies in by an automated PM and show them how things work in the particular subforum.
The appointment thing is so that at least one person knows it is their job, and so the newbie doesn't get buried under a PM onslaught the first time they post.
We will give the appointee (now called Heralds) a spiffy icon badge so people will know they are on the job for everybody. There will also be access to a report that shows who is new in the subforum.
If you want to apply for the position, all you have to do is post a welcome draft here. That way, a moderator will consider you. If someone else has already applied for the position, don't worry! Multiple people can apply for one subforum.
This is a list of the heralds that have already been appointed and the subforums that still need heralds.
Open sections with inactive heralds:

- Ori Doodle — Old Folks Home
- Cyto Zytokine — New Media
- Totemic Hero — Webcomics

I wasn't really sure where to post this, but the Herald message for World Building starts with "Hello [[Troper]]". I'm guessing that it's supposed to be markup that makes it show my name, but it doesn't do that. And if not, and it's just supposed to look like that, well... it looks like it's supposed to be markup, which caused me to immediately stop reading the rest of the PM and go look up the Herald Thread

It is supposed to show your name there. When did you get it? That markup rule might have gotten broken in the maintenance we had the other day.
Fresh-eyed movie blogI just got it an hour ago (maybe three minutes before I posted).
I checked out the outgoing herald messages being sent under me, and there doesn't seem to be a problem there. (This includes all messages post-wiki maintenance event.)
It might be a problem with your cookies (since that's how I assume the herald messages work). Shouldn't be a major issue if that's the case.
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)No, its not that. Even deleting cache/cookie data - even opening up my phone browser to double check - it still just shows that instead of a handle.
Then I am a confused herald, because I don't see a reason why it would be working for some herald messages and not for others.
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)I checked my most recent messages (back to May 3), and they all appeared fine to me, too.
It's not so complicated, guys. The [[troper]] markup is case-sensitive, and only displays your name if the message itself says [[troper]] rather than, say, [[tRoPeR]]. Most messages are written with [[troper]] so they work fine (example), but the World Building one has [[Troper]] so it doesn't.
It may or may not have worked in the past. Case-sensitive troubles have been introduced with the latest upgrade thing, so it might be a new issue, but it could also be that it never worked but nobody noticed.
This isn't a cache issue or something we can fix ourselves; it needs the message edited. I'll Holler for a mod to correct it.

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.I used [[troper]], and it worked fine in the most recent messages (I wonder if the people received them)
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanIt's supposed to be that way, it looks like the capital letter was throwing it off.
Does Forum Games have a herald yet? Because I could volunteer if that's the case, and I am at the Forum Games most of the time which helps.

MY SOUL IS DARK BUT MY HAIR IS COLORFUL — Brahian Pokémon AlchemistIn that case,I would like to become a Forum Herald.

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanHow many Forum Games herald applicants are we at now, anyways?

Humanity wants equality yet supremacy stands in the way. Destroy that and we can embrace equality. You should put in more information, mainly a link to the forum rules thread as well as a link to the forum games rules.
I don’t even know anymore. The texts of the other PM are linked here. You may take them as examples.
Also, the OP will need updating with the drafts still standing out, as well as being possibly pinned.

If you are not sure of the forum gamerules go here.

Humanity wants equality yet supremacy stands in the way. Destroy that and we can embrace equality.I have an actively updated list of the outstanding herald applications here.
You've got some noticeable grammar errors that need to be ironed out before that'll be considered.
@Xiphos and Willbyr: Let me try a grammar fix:

@Nocturna: I was talking of the list in the OP.

Just a note: The TRS message needs Special Efforts changed to Short Term Projects.
