@Luigisan 98: That announcement I linked to was made today, so I'm guessing that the Han Solo movie will be coming out in May.

[up] Naruhodo.

Say, what plot point could the movie deal about?

Han Solo being a rising star in the Imperial Navy, rescuing Chewie from slavery, getting drummed out of the service, meeting Lando, and starting his smuggling career off in grand fashion with a legendary score?

I wonder if Lobot's going to be in it, pre-cybernetics. The Lando comic indicates that the who have been working together for a long time.

Also, I really want the movie to keep Lando's "never seen using a gun" bit from the comic, maybe playing it like Jack Sparrow's gun from the first Pirates Of The Pirates movie.

From what I remember reading Han's breaking point in the old continuity was his CO asking him if he'd kindly skin Chewie alive for his rebellion. Yeesh. Wonder if that'll make it into this one?

They'll probably just tell him to shoot him or something.

If the prequel trilogy intentionally invokes the 1950's... and the original films inadvertently still represent the 1970's... does that mean that the Han Solo film would have to take place in the Star Wars 1960's?

(Great, now I can't stop picturing stormtroopers beating protesters to the Glenn Miller Orchestra.)

For that matter, it would be cool to have a reference to American Graffiti or two:

"Your ship's uglier than I am! ... That didn't come out right."

Huh, Chewie won't be played by Peter Mayhew in the Han movie.

So whats going on with Corellia in the Nu-Canon? It appears in Life Debt where the Acolytes of the Beyond cause chaos in Coronet City, but after that, nothing. Does it show up in Empire's End?

[up][up][up]The guy is seventy, so I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later. Maybe they want Chewbacca to do a lot of action stuff in this movie. I'd be alright with that.

Actually...

@Hamburger Time: The guy playing Chewbacca in the Han Solo movie is Joonas Suotamo, who was Chewbacca during the action scenes in TFA. Basically, anytime Chewbacca was running or fighting or doing anything that required movement in TFA, it was Joonas Suotamo, because Peter Mayhew has difficulties moving around without some sort of assistance. But Peter Mayhew did mentor him during the filming of TFA and pretty much told how to play Chewbacca.

So, a meme video had a clip of the second Death Star exploding because reasons, and it got me to go on a Youtube stroll through Star Wars clips, and as a result I've spent the last forty-five minutes or so watching TFA clips and going from "okay so I wasn't just imagining it and the X-Wing attack on Starkiller Base really was phoned in" to "omfg that duel was SO BRUTAL crossguard lightsaber justified right there fite me".

I think I'm a lot happier than I ought to be at still being able to find stuff in TFA I genuinely like.

I hope I'll be able to have enough enthusiasm when I finally stream it for my buddies...

but HOW?

I would have been a lot happier with that movie if that duel was in movie two/three, not on movie one.

Just saying.

If that is true it basically ruins Return's ending even more than before with just a snowball of constant failures.

No thanks.

Interesting, if true. Essentially what happened to the Empire when it shattered was inflicted on to the New Republic, but that is the nature of the Force. Maybe we'll finally see something far more interesting than the classic binary conflict. Would be kind of cool if the Chiss Ascendancy or others would become major players after this.

I don't quite buy that the NR would be completely in disarray though, as they were decentralized for a reason.

Nah they were centralized, that center point was just movable.

To me it still sounds decentralized, as otherwise moving the capital makes literally no sense whatsoever outside of ideological reasons. The systems necessary to run the NR would have to exist on every separate planet they rotate in. Or they didn't exist at all, with only the decision-making body moving which would mean there was never any real central government. (Which would explain why the NR never really managed to get its act together, if all the different systems kept doing their own thing).

Reminds me a little of the European Union.

I'd say that the New Republic as it is strikes me as the Articles of Confederation, which feared a strong national government so much that it went Gone Horribly Right. Starkiller Base may be Shay's Rebellion, which frightened the leadership so much that it decided to rework the whole system of government.

The New Republic is basically a pastiche of every dysfunctional democracy — the pre-Constitution US, the inter-War UK, the Dutch Republic during the 'Rampjaar, you name it.
