Pretty Cure general thread

If Glitter Force has significant changes (which is likely going by what we know), then it'll probably be easier to just give that its own page in order to lessen confusion and annoy fewer people who would otherwise be bothered by name changes and such.

I'm still not overly impressed by GoPri, but the overall quality has been much higher in the second half in both writing and characters. Minami is still a bore, but everyone else is serviceable, and they've figured out how to handle the characters well enough.

It's difficult to sell the merch oversea even with Precure's main goal as a glorified toy commercial, I think. Mostly because it doesn't translate well. Here in Indonesia, Aikatsu got the dibs of merch because they're collaborating with local idol group.

Yeah, I believe that GoPri isn't that special compare to other "better half" seasons. I would say that it's mostly because of nostalgia goggles at work here, but even when not counting other seasons, I think GoPri decides to play it safe in many instances. And, yes, Minami still got the shaft of minimum character development.

They sell Sailor Moon stuff, it took them till long after the series first aired to do it though.

Girl's toys have to have demand for them to produce in the west, Boy's toys are the opposite. Also many places in america are basically on an outright assault on them as well.

I didn't say that GF was a verboten subject in and of itself. What we're trying to avoid is it turning into a combination of the Internet Backdraft ritual shouting match and a load of people running around screaming about how the sky's falling.

Then I can announce the first name for Glitter Force.

That too, but I still rather not have the name be mentioned at all at this time because it can lead to said Internet Backdraft very quickly. It's too risky for my personal taste; but if everyone can keep an open mind and a civil tone about it, go ahead.

Well we don't really know that Nao's name is being changed to April. What we do know is that a voice actress for the Spanish dub of Glitter Force is voicing a character named April in the dub. A Spanish news site reported this as her voicing a character named April with the claim that April's name had been Nao in the original version of the show but the link to their evidence only shows the voice actress saying that she's voicing a character named April in Glitter Force. Basically the claim that Nao's name is being changed is just a rumor at this point since April could be the dub name for any of the girls.

if Glitter Force is getting a Netflix deal,you would think why they are even bothering doing all these changes and cutting episodes out,since streaming platforms was supposed to avoid the restrictions imposed by broadcasting T Vs...

It's Saban... This is what they do to series. They chop them up and Americanize them so much that it will be a completely different series, they are already deleting 8 episodes which likely includes the ending.

The promo images show that they are adding lots of glitter effects in where they weren't before as well as Sunny seems to be the MC in the promos due to them thinking American audiences can't handle pink apparently. Also it appears that their earrings have all been edited out of the promos, oddly, I wonder if the compacts themselves will be changed.

If that sounded harsh, sorry. I just want to reiterate that it's going to be completely different like Mighty Morphin Power Rangers to Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger different, which was also Saban and we also have different pages on.

And yet we don't separate Saban's Digimon stuff from Digimon Adventure, Digimon Adventure 02 or Digimon Tamers.

Also citing Macross and Robotech as a precedent is rather disingenous considering that Robotech is three totally different shows mashed together rather than a single show localised.

We didn't seperate Di C's Sailor Moon stuff or Nelvana's take on Cardcaptor Sakura from their source works. Those are probably the most famous examples of what is likely to happen here.

They don't have marketing behind it this time, Digimon was made to just sell toys. They edited quite a bit but it was set in a fantasy world.

Also Precure is a girl's series, they will edit it, neuter it and Americanize it to death because this is the west and western girls are stupid and cant handle basic fighting in the eyes of media.

Just think about this though, they are already announced they are cutting 1/6th of the entire series, they didn't do that to Digimon at all. Really 8 episodes is really 1/6th of the entire series.

Wait we don't have a separate page for Cardcaptors instead of Cardcaptor Sakura? Really? Those were so extremely different from each other we really should.

I am still not really seeing a reason to split the two. Precure as a franchise is just as much of a toy marketing vehicle as Digimon.

Its not going to be in the west, Digimon had toys on the shelves well before the series aired. We haven't had a single toy announcement and its going to be exclusive to Netflix apparently.

But for gods sakes we better not be changing the Precure page names to Glitter Force though. Keeping the pages separate will alleviate the incoming issues.

OK, this is kind of what I was getting at before.

A word to the thread at large: lose the elitism. Stop acting like the mere existence of Glitter Force is in some way going to destroy the entire franchise.

In discussion with the rest of the staff we seriously considered declaring the matter an outright banned subject at least until it stats airing or streaming. I'd prefer it if we didn't have to go that far.

In short, keep it clean.

I swear we always talk about Smile more than any other non-current show. Nobody cares about Yes 5 or poor Splash Star.

I'll admit, I'll be more interested in Glitter Force if they do change it significantly. I don't need to watch a dubbed version of something I've already seen. Going in a new direction has the potential for some new jokes at least (most of which will probably be terrible, but it's not like Smile had highbrow humor). While I have little confidence in it, there's no reason we have to be negative this far out.

What? Aren't we talking about Yes5 and Splash Stars enough as the pioneers of what makes Precure seasons good? What else do you want?

Beside that, I think it's unfair to judge the dub when it has less information than even GoPri movies, so I would refrain of making discussions other than news. Beside that thing about Nao's potential VA, where do I read it?

Oh god, they're turning Pretty Cure more into a tokusatsu than it already was...only in the style of Power Rangers. Yes, rather sure that account's official. X_X

They better have a damn good dub cast or no one's likely gonna watch this.

Oh people are going to watch it. Fans on Tumblr have already said they intend to watch it and you can be sure that if it turns out to air on TV as well as Netflix that children will watch it too.

Also we that account is probably fake anyways.

Not saying that there's a particular series we should discuss or not. Just noting that Smile comes up really frequently compared to the others.

I could believe Glitter Pink/Orange as their transformed names, but somehow I doubt Makayla would be a name Saban would use. Though I don't work in the dubbing/translation industry, so what do I know?

34. I get that Kirara is too busy for random contests, but couldn't they have sent up their actual princess? It's not like Towa has done much lately. Shut gives the best advice. More nice Haruka/Kirara bonding. Kirara is still the best. Next episode, I suspect they found a way to make Kanata even more boring.

Y'know it's kinda funny that in spite putting herself in the background more often as of current, some guys at Tumblr thinks that Towa is some sort of Mary Sue. I mean, really, she didn't feel like shoving herself to the screentime as much as Setsuna did before.

I think it was kind of a wasted opportunity...since Shut is so clearly infatuated with her, Towa should've offered to let him be her personal attendant if he makes a Heel–Face Turn. Certainly not an offer he can't refuse, but he would've been in quite the dilemma and it would have been pretty interesting to see. I don't think they've done that in this series before, and the theme of this season is perfect for that.

On a side note, Stop and Freeze's catchphrase is starting to annoy me.
