Now that the trope it was named after is known as Alpha Bitch, a rename seems to be in order for this.

"Lovable Alpha Bitch" probably won't work...

I don't see what's wrong with Lovable Alpha Bitch. Isn't that the trope?

Why not? We've changed the name of the trope but not the definition...what is wrong with Lovable Alpha Bitch?

Reading the trope, it pretty much says, this person is a bitch, but turns out to be lovable too.

^^Hmmm...fair enough, but it just sounds off. I like Sheep In Bitch's Clothing better, though.

I don't like Sheep In Bitch Clothing because it implies, well, the person is a sheep- cute, innocent, naive, follows the herd etc.

Don't think this works as an inverse of Bitch In Sheep Clothing.

Okay, I see what you mean. What about just Lovable Bitch?

The problem with Bitch With A Heart Of Gold is that it sounds like a Distaff Counterpart to Jerk with a Heart of Gold, which it isn't quite - it's more like a sub-trope than a distaff counterpart.

Mistaken For Alpha Bitch might be a good alternative, as she has some of the traits associated with them but not the most harmful ones.

I don't think it has to be a mistake. She can be a real Alpha Bitch just like an Affably Evil villain can be genuinely evil. Affably Bitchy? Nah, doesn't quite work.

[up]I think this is a subtrope of Jerk with a Heart of Gold... the character that's in a position to be the Alpha Bitch but manages to be likeable all the same. You could similarly note that Alpha Bitch is a subtrope to Jerkass.

I actually like Affably Alpha, but that might be due to thinking of what a wolf has to do to become the alpha and extrapolating that to school settings. Affably Bitchy could work as well, though.

[up]Hmm... given that we're dealing with a character type, and thus a noun, replacing it with another noun makes the most sense. Affable Bitch looks like the best option to me, all things considered.

Yeah, it's not just any bitch, it's the Alpha Bitch! Just using "bitch" would be completely misleading.

Side note: I've known plenty of Lovable Alpha Bitches, so I'm having a hard time seeing what the problem is. I think my mother was one.

I'm not sure this trope is really about the Alpha Bitch; it appears it was just Snow Cloned after its former name. Basically, it seems to be that (1) a girl is popular, (2) she is assumed (within the work) to be nasty towards anyone outside her circle, and (3) turns out the assumption is wrong.

Popular But Nice might be a good name?

Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!

^ No, that would be Spoiled Sweet. This trope is for when the girl in question really does display many of the qualities of The Libby / Alpha Bitch, especially in her attitude towards those on the lower side of the Popularity Food Chain. However, as opposed to being an unsympathetic antagonist, she's shown to be not that bad and is usually a close friend of at least one of the main characters, when she's not outright a member of the True Companions.
