I know this is a Take Our Word for It situation, but take my word for it. SHE IS FLAT! Her hands are covering her breasts. I really wish the anime had displayed that a bit better, but that's the best I can give you from the source material that this trope is based off of.

Skip to 7:40 for the scene in question

I really can't tell she is being prideful of her lack oftits. That is kinda the standard I am a cocky douche bag pose.

Please.

Well lets see... the pose got in Seitokai No Ichizon again referring to breasts.

Umm bumpy
Not knowing the show in question, it looks like she's not actually proud of her small breasts, only her imagined large breasts. (aside: 5 1/2 ft breasts sound terrifying)

What would be an ideal example? If no one comes up with an existing media example I could always draw one. >.>

Alright, so let me get this straight.

  • We can't have an image that has a character draw attention to their (lack of) breasts without speaking, because it's not clear and can be misinterpreted as arrogance and what have you. Captions are also out of the question.
  • We can't have an image that has a character talk about breasts *within* the image, because it becomes too verbose.

So uh... don't these two pretty much destroy any chance of a picture for this trope?

That aside, the one nitpick I really have with taking down the old image was because, in my opinion, it was fine the way it was. Even without caption text, it was an obviously flat chested girl, hand on breast, looking proud. Logic can dictate that, yes, she's proud of being flat as a washboard.

Care to disagree? Mosey on down to this page and take a gander at the picture here. The pose is pretty darn similar between the two pics, wouldn't you say? However, if my logic is wrong for the Petite Pride pic, it's wrong for the Dub Text pic. This is clearly not a woman saying that her breasts are talent. This is a woman who is, quite clearly, arrogant when it comes to her own acting talent. (And yes, I'm aware of the joke, but I was not prior to reading the page. If anything, the Dub Text picture should be removed, because remember, "Page images must be illustrative. They should not require any any additional context in order to be understood." This is not about the Dub Text picture, however, and so I'll leave it at that.)

Truth be told, if the picture we had wasn't good enough, I doubt we're going to find any much better, and again, I feel that the picture we had was fine. Admittedly, yes, some liberties have to be taken to get the point across (probably enough to ding it), but I could understand what it was trying to represent without additional context.

I finally get that image -_-' I always thought she it was literal.

The problem is hand spread on your chest is pretty much de facto sign of brag.

Please.

Sigh... the old image is still the best I've seen in this thread so far.

I kind of like the AA version...

Caption: "AA stands for absolutely awesome."

[up] Which fits the trope since it's about pride...

Captions are not out of the question. Captions should be the punchline to the images setup, not the other way around. Also, it's okay to talk, provided it doesn't wind up as either a Wall of Text or Talking Heads (where the only reason it's an image is for something to draw the text bubbles to).

[This is a side-issue, I am not about discussing the picture, sorry.]

Let's talk a second about the Pettanko thing-y.

Pettanko is not really a trope, since there is nothing that can be said about it. It's just a description that doesn't include nothing to work with, like having a big elbow.

On the other hand, I think I see the point one guy was trying to make here.

I think the biggest problem here is that "Pettanko" is used as an Index for "Flat-chested" tropes (which only include 2 tropes).

Maybe do some kind of "short" wikipedia-like redirection as the page of Hungry Heart does?

Anybody got access to a comic or manga with one of these scenes? Unless we all decide we like one of the options presented already, I suspect that may be our only hope.

Pettanko is just a fanspeak page. It's not a trope. It's not an index. It's not a page that should really be linked outside of explaining what the term means. It's just there to define a term of anime jargon.

Alright, the clock's up and this isn't going anywhere, so I'm gonna lock it shortly. Of note - someone put the old Lucky Star pic back up a week or so ago, but I re-cut it with a note that Eddie had pulled it previously. If someone catches it being put back up, please let the mods know.
