But how would the trope be shown properly?
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.I'm not exactly sure that it can be shown, at least for what we want.
Motion to pull image.
Image shows nothing indicating it's a boss, rather than a random war robot.
Fight smart, not fair.Seconding for 's reason.

Opposed
Its not a bad image. You have a wizard and some guys with swords against a war machine. Who would you pull for?
The caption just confirms it. They're dead.

Modified Ura-nage, Torture RackOpposing pull as well. Seeing a WarMECH, along with the name, shows that it will probably be a hard enemy.
Edit: And its name from some other versions is "Death Machine", which also seems very boss-ish and hard.

I can't imagine a good image for this trope without a good enough caption to follow it, so I think this is good on its own. Besides, it's not exactly an obscure example either.
I'm pretty sure the concept of Law having limits was a translation error. -WanderlustwarriorBeing obscure is neither good nor bad.
Fight smart, not fair.Seconding pull. If this were a crowner, we'd be at +0 by now.
An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up.I see no problems with it. keep.
I don't mind replacing the image, but only if there is one can be found that is arguably better. Until then, its not a bad image, so its better than no image.
Modified Ura-nage, Torture RackAnd how does it show that it's a boss in mook clothing instead of just... a boss?
I have a message from another time...^ I think that could be fixed by showing a Random Encounter right before walking to the boss (since there is a canon boss in the same area as that mook) and showing him killing the party members, but that would require knowledge of Random Encounter screens to begin with too so...
If people learned from their mistakes, there wouldn't be this thing called bad habits.NES FF 1 doesn't have a particularly memorable Fight Woosh (it's just a sound effect and palette cycling to black).
I would like to counter some of the arguments made for keeping, but I'm not entirely sure of my wording, so...
- The screenshot doesn't convey that this is a random encounter and not a designated Boss Battle.
- Sure, "WarMech" and/or "Death Machine" is a Name To Run Away From Really Fast, but that's all. Names are not a reliable indicator of monster difficulty.
- There are always Giant Robots in RPGs.

An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up.Object to pulling, unless a better image can be found. It's not JAFAAC because it shows a situation, i.e. four medieval characters vs. a mecha. We can argue about whether the situation is clear enough (in my opinion, yes), but it's not JAFAAC.
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight! It's kind of hard to see them all as medieval on their sprites there...
Anyway, I was talking about the GBA version(or the PSP version) rather than the NES one.
If people learned from their mistakes, there wouldn't be this thing called bad habits.Well if we could get a game with a random encounter message like Dragon Quests' "so and so really huge guy has appeared" then a game over screen it might work.
Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!If there is a better option out there, I'm all for that, but this one is not bad IMO. So oppose pull.
Improving as an author, one video at a time.Support pull. I see no evidence of any sort that this is not a boss or that it's difficult. RPGs like having cool-looking enemies, and the thing isn't visibly more than two feet taller than a human.

Infinite Tree: an experimental storyRPG monster sprites are rarely to scale in the 8- abd 16- bit era.
An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up.I know the example, and I support a pull. Nothing to really indicate that this is a very tough monster.
Don't take life too seriously. It's only a temporary situation.Support pull because looks like a boss, but not a mook.
Please. If the current image is pulled, maybe an image of the GBA version of the WarMECH (Death Machine in that translation) using Nuclear?
Edit: I found a image on the FF wiki here◊. Or maybe the GBA version of it, also in the gallery of that page?

If that would show that it was a mook and that it was powerful, sure.
Infinite Tree: an experimental story
The image is technically an example of the trope, but doesn't visually convey the trope's requirements and can only be properly interpreted with pre-existing viewer knowledge of the context in which it occurs.
